    Best San Diego padre to ever grace the baseball diamond. A hall of fame baseball player AND a hall of fame person. I shed a tear when my dad told me the news about Tony Gwynn's passing. I'm a Phillies fan. And I enjoyed watching mr. Padre play the game how it's supposed to be played. Rest in peace Tony Gwynn. San Diego will miss you and baseball will miss you as well. So many great memories. Truly an icon we took for granted in San Diego, but it was his fault. We came to expect excellence, and he served it up year after year. But...there is a little melancholy. If he had kept down the weight, which led to knee injuries, he'd have played another five years. And if he hadn't chewed he'd still be here with us. Selfish thoughts.

    When are people going to learn that it’s not about homeruns? It’s about RBIs producing runs and winning games. Tony was arguably the best hitter of all time. Arguably considering he played for the padres.

    • @ThekiBoran
      @ThekiBoran 3 роки тому

      Gwynn was one of the greats and also a fine human being, I wish he was here with us today, but the best hitter of all time must also hit for power. While I think homeruns are boring, I prefer small ball, he had only 135 homeruns and slugged .459. That's not enough to get a hitter considered the greatest. The debate for greatest include Ruth, Williams, Mays, Aaron, anyone else? The list is short for greatest hitter ever.

    Tony is a great hitter, but he is NOT the best. If you are talking, just, contact hitter he is in the conversation. He is not in the same conversation with Ruth, Foxx, Greenberg, Williams, Mays, Aaron as a complete (contact and power) hitter.

    • @alexmendez3682

      Gwynn wasnt about power, he was all about contact hitting. The BEST pure hitter in terms of contact, not power.

  • @PiPoholic-
    @PiPoholic- 6 років тому +1

    I have the upmost respect for everything Tony Gwynn has brought to and done for the game. But to say he’s the best hitter of all time is a complete slap in Barry Bonds face. This is not arguable. Barry Bonds is the most dominant hitter of all time. Gwynn is absolutely top 5

    • @silvervalleya-frame7829
      @silvervalleya-frame7829 6 років тому

      Barry Bonds is the greatest power hitter ever maybe, but in terms of pure contact hitter absolutely not. Gwynn's career average is 40 points higher than Bonds. Hitting often gets broken down into more than one category by baseball fans. Even with that said, I'd take Stan Musial over Bonds any day.

    • @PiPoholic-
      @PiPoholic- 6 років тому

      Jim Scott Yes more than one category sir. Please look at Barry Bonds stats... All of them. This is not debatable as it is pretty much fact. You’re comparing the greatest homerun hitter of all time to one of, if not the greatest contact hitter of all time.. and his average is only “40 points higher”. Barry Bonds had more walks than TEAMS my man, was intentionally walked with the bases loaded 14 times!!!! That is unheard of. He’s just heavily downplayed because he was a dick and got caught up with steroids. But please do not be misled, the man is the greatest hitter of all time.

    • @PiPoholic-
      @PiPoholic- 6 років тому

      And yes Stan Musial was a phenomenal player. But he played in a different era. I don’t believe you can compare someone from the 40’s & 50’s to a player from today. Gameplay is just so different from then. Never the less both players are legends and should be recognized as such.

    • @silvervalleya-frame7829
      @silvervalleya-frame7829 6 років тому +2

      hahaha there have only been 6 intentional walks with bases loaded in MLB history and yes Bonds has ONE of them. Not 14. And 40 batting points in pretty substantial. You're not even working in real facts, of course you think Bonds is better.
