- In isolation and needing some inspiration? Then I am inviting you to get those brushes out and paint with me.
Even if you don't paint its always fun to watch, remember watercolour challenge? Lots of my non artist friends loved it. Unfortunately there is no Hanna Gordon its only me 😁
Lets take this time and focus on maintaining our mental well-being by being creative because
now, more than ever, is the time for us to be proactive about creating small moments of happiness in our days, so lets paint some uplifting Tulips
This lesson should suit the beginner or those with some experience
So stay positive and stay creative
and feel free to share with others who may benefit
ps. I sound a bit miserable but honestly I am ok 🤗
About Me:
I am an experienced artist and tutor, with a life-long love of painting and drawing and a passion for nurturing those skills in others. I derive immense pleasure from helping others to discover the endless joys (and occasional frustrations) of painting, and to progress, whether they taking their first tentative steps or are seeking to develop their technique and style.
I conduct demonstrations and run workshops (in watercolour) and also tutor painting holidays both abroad and in the UK.

Love your work and your style. I used to watch your Cheap Joe's and Art Channel videos years hence and always looked forward to your name popping up. Now you have your own channel! How marvelous--and thank you for sharing your gift with your fellow artists, and art lovers! Be well, stay safe~
i love watching your videos! i have learned alot! are you able to do a faceless portrait tutorial
Love it🌷❤
Lovely!
Thank you, Joanne. I"ve been a fan of yours since early Art Tutor days. I painted along with you when you did your fabulous sunflowers. I had never seen someone use so much water, so I took my painting outside...LOL. I also first learned about Brusho from you.....although I don't do much with it....I'm still too heavy handed with it. I'm trying to sprinkle it with a dry brush .....that technique seems to work for me. This is a very fun exercise. Thank you for sharing. I'm excited that you've set up a UA-cam channel. I'll be looking for more. Stay safe.
Many thanks 🥰
So happy to find you. I love your tutorials. Thank you for teaching us.
You are very welcome Millie 🙏 🤗

Absolutely love your tutorial, so inspiring!
What Cathy said. Except I’m 78. Thank you.
Just beautiful. .absolutely!
You have always been my favorite watercolorist ,I still have difficulty with using so much water but trying! I have followed you for years on art tutor! Going to give the tulips a try😁
Hi Pat so glad you are following my tutorials I do hope you enjoy the watercolour tulips ⚘
❤️💗💕
Your painting is magical! Absolutely loved the way you painted such beautiful flowers 🌷
Thank you so much. You are so inspiring and a wonderful artist and instructor.
Is your board tilted?
Hi Marleen, no my board is flat
Thrilled to find you have your own UA-cam channel! Thank you!!
I was so excited when I saw your announcement on Facebook about your UA-cam channel. Love your technique, Thank you for sharing your talent. I'm retired and self teaching myself watercolour. Lots to learn. Hope to see more coming and wishing you great success with your channel growing.
Hi Joy thanks so much for your message and good wishes. Keep painting and keep safe ⚘🥰🖌
Thank you Joanne. Keep safe too x
Hi Joanne, I love your tutorials and find your method of teaching easy to follow. I gave the tulips a go and enjoyed it very much. I'm very much at the beginning stage of watercolor and am just getting the hang of knowing just how wet my brush is vs. my paper vs. my paint! Still have a tendency to overwork things but I have a mantra now when I am painting, I hear your voice in my head asking me if I need to put my brush down, lol! Going to head over to FB and join your group. Please be well and stay safe!
Oh no my voice in your head!!! Hope you can understand my Northern accent !!!! Keep painting and stay safe 🖌🖌🖌
Thank you again, Joanne! Keep 'em coming, please!!
I really love your style of painting ❤️
Thank you Julie 😊

Joanne I absolutely love your work! Stay safe!
Wow. When you had a close up on the lower right tulip stem it actually looked on camera to have the little fine hairs on the stem. I’m assuming it is because the blue running in the water and the spraying of water? It’s just so crazy how it looks effortless. You get the most beautiful wistful paintings that look so effortless but to replicate it......... in my mind it feels like I would never be able to do it.
Watercolour painting and pencils along with drawing gives me the best feeling when I can do it. I have a severe pain syndrome (🧡🔥🌩RSD🌩🔥🧡) and fibromyalgia so it is literally therapy. I stopped for 10 yrs (had children 😃) and just started up again during covid. I strive to be like you but I find I have this gene that doesn’t let me let loose and “just let’s see what happens”. I know watercolours are a hard medium to control, I love when the pigments just flow and crawl across the page but I don’t think I can see what to do with it after. Maybe I don’t have insight? The foresight?
I need to keep watching and actually do it while I watch instead of being in my head and saying ... that cannot be replicated.
Thankyou for making me think of watercolours differently. I love your accent and your laid back relaxed attitude. I need to take that in and learn from you! Thankyou. Stay safe. From Canada.
Hi Kimberly
Thank you for your kind words I truly appreciate that you took the time.
I feel you answered your own question in that it is so helpful to watch and paint along with me. Please dont feel discouraged and fill your head with negative thoughts. I was once a beginner who loved to draw and yearned to be able to master watercolour techniques with much practice and determination I saw an improvement and here I am today actually teaching Watercolour!!! Remember all mistakes are a learning curve and playing and experimenting teaches us something so don't be afraid to just play and not put pressure on yourself to create a masterpiece.
Keep painting and stay safe xxx
I really like this, Joanne. Is there an advantage to using the wax resist instead of masking fluid?
Its just my personal preference I have never got on with masking fluid.
So excited to see your channel and this delicious tulip tutorial! My parrot tulips are blooming now and I’ve been so stymied trying to paint all their color fused and fringe petals. Going to give a try with your loose style and brave up with more water! Thanks so much for sharing your expertise and lovely commentary style.
You are very welcome I do hope you enjoy painting your Parrot tulips ⚘🖌🌈
Thank you so much for Your inspirational tutorials Joanne, you’re very generous and I absolutely love your style, I’m very much a beginner and aspire to paint in a ‘loose’ style - your guidance helps enormously 💜
I am so pleased to hear that you are enjoying the tutorials 😀
All my thanks crossing the Channel towards you... am in France and as the whole World living in isolation for sometime now. Your videos are full of inspiration. I don't know how to draw, I don't know how to paint, but even so you motivated me to give a try with some watercolor. Thanks again and keep safe.
Hi Louise its lovely to know I am motivating you to be creative thank you so much for taking the time to leave me your lovely message. Keep painting and keep safe
Curious! Are you left or right handed? Is the image being reversed? In some videos you appear to be using your right hand , in others your left. Either way, I enjoy them very much! Thanks for sharing
You got me! The fist few videos are back to front! I now know how to reverse the filming, definitely right handed 😏
Thanks, Joanne! Always fun!!!!!!!
Thankyou so much Joanne. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video. I am 75 and still class myself as a beginner after many years trying to do watercolour. I am in the process of trying your 'Poppies' painting, but look forward to also trying this one. It seems a bit easier to follow seeing I am able to continuously watch what you are doing. Love your work.
Shirley I am so pleased you are enjoying the tutorials keep paint8ngand stay safe 😁
Fabulous. Love your loose style Joanne. How do you end up with something so gorgeous?
Just practice Lydia 🥲
Loved your tutorial. I had initially posted what I did on FB, but there weren't any others..... so I deleted it. lol. Anyhow, great tutorial!
Thats a shame I would love to see your painting
Thank you Joanne!
I just love how you paint you make it look so easy
Oh I do love your tutorials! Thank you so much for taking time to teach even a non-artistic granny to dare to take ink to paper!!I have learned so much from you and just love your style. Kind wishes

I love to watch you paint. I tried out both the poppies and the tulips. They were a lot of fun. Negative space painting was a challenge, showing off the stems here and the poppy edges in that video.
Its great to know that you got your brushes out to paint with me Carol. Negative painting can be a challenge but its a skill work practicing
I’m so glad I found you. Your style f teach how is awesome.

Beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing your technique! It's SO lovely!
Really enjoyed. Always amazing how these turn out. Thank you.
This is exactly what the world needs right now. Your calming voice and your beautiful pictures. And you make it look so easy and make us all want to run to our tables and shake our boards! Thank you for sharing your time and talent and bringing zen and beauty to each of us.
Laura your lovely comment makes this all worth while. Go shake that board girl x
Joanne Boon Thomas I will do it! And if it turns out at all viewable, I'll tag you on IG. I'm createarteveryday over there. I've watched this several times and really looking forward to trying it. Thanks again!
❤
Joanne I love the way you paint! You let the paint move and express itself which I find so lovely and freeing. I also enjoy you talking through your painting which makes me chuckle at times but also gives me an insight as to your thought process as you are painting. You are also so positive when you paint, always looking at a hard edge for example as an opportunity to define something rather than a mistake that has to be fixed. Thank you so much for your tutorials. I'm glad I found you and I'm excited to try my hand at some watercolor painting.
Ursula thanks so much for leaving me such a positive message 💛 I am also pleased that I manage to make you chuckle 😄

So glad I have found you on UA-cam - I have always wanted to paint in this way and will be following your very straight forward videos as I try to practise the technique. Thank you so much for posting these during the lockdown.
Hi Tilly you are so very welcome I hope you enjoy 🖌🌈❤
Wow thanks Joanne for the tutorial! Love your loose painting style and how much water you used in the painting. I followed your sunflower tutorial and that was my favourite and proudest water-colour painting so far! So excited to learn about your new channel.
I remember painting that Sunflower, it feels like yesterday 😁🌻 So glad you are enjoying the new tutorials
Thank you💛
thank you to put sunshine in my life i love you very kind of you to do that thank you so much
You are very welcome thank you for watching 🥰⚘🖌
Beautiful , thank you so much!
You are very welcome 🖌🌈❤
What paper do you use?
Saunders Waterford watercolour paper
Is there a weight to the paper? And thank you for your reply. I’m really enjoying your lessons. I’m a tight “realistic” painter and want to loosen up a lot🙂
Hi Barbara I like to use any paper that is over 140lb as I use lots of water and dont want my paper to buckle.
