For an even comparison I would use the same lure on 3 different lengths of popping corks and then have one pole, with the same lure, without a popping cork.
Your videos are awesome bro, the editing is top notch along with the sound - I feel like a lot of UA-cam fisherman don't pay attention to audio but I think it makes a huge difference in a quality video. Youve given me some great ideas over the years!
I'm glad to see another video. Awesome video at that. The popping cork works in certain conditions. Not a fan , but i will try anything once. LOL. Be Safe Brother.
For a short drop, use smaller popping cork. In shallow water, hang cork upside down. Makes less noise and similar to feeding reds. Caught many reds and flounder this way
Exactly, in those flatter conditions, I’d use an original Mansfield Mauler “cigar” cork if I used a cork at all. And likely not to use a cork at all in clearer water with light to no chop. It really is about right tool in appropriate conditions that warrant that tool.
I have been fishing the flats for many years and have had great success with soft plastics under a alameda rattlin' plastic popping cork. The pop gets the fishes attention and the rattle sounds like a shrimp kicking away from the the fish.Deadly on big trout!
I thought a short leader like that was bad idea till I saw that's what worked under the lights in arollo city. Still the only place I've seen such a short leader be used but it was by far the most effective rig I saw be used.
Very nice Coop! I love how you are not afraid of experimenting things even if it means no fish or in your case less fish. Awesome man. Keep them coming 👍 👌
I made a popping cork with a hook on it one time when I was in Florida, I might still have it lol been like 5 years. But essentially I attached a swimbait stinger hook to it off a largemouth bass set up I had. Redfish we’re hitting the cork and I ended up catching 2 during the trip that hit the cook lol
I read that some guys use a top water instead of a cork. they took the front hook off and the bottom but left the middle hook. just so when they get the "cork" strike the hook on. you should give it a try I never tried it myself tho
I have tried it on a popper topwater, not a walk-the-dog topwater (as it impedes the walk), but with a chugger style popper, oh yeah. And it mimics the old freshwater bass rig called a spook-and-fluke. I prefer an unweighted soft plastic like a Zoom fluke or Bass Assasin and have even tied a bunch of shrimp flies to use behind the chugger/popper with 12-15” of 30 LB mono leader. I use it on a two-treble chugger and remove the rear hook to replace with the leader and leave the front treble for those fish that blow up on the lure instead of the trailer.
Your in my head, Man!! People look at me crazy. I think it will work. Ah man, maybe location matters. nice first catch 👍🏼 compare short to long. plastics alone play differently. no comparison. I’ll keep watching…
Love your videos man, hope your issues ease up soon for you. I think your control should of been a "normal" popping cork right? Can't wait for the next video🦈
I have got to get my hands on a Waterloo rod , I want to buy one so bad, the one with the recoil guide like the NRX specifically but nobody has them in store in the north east and I don’t want to just order it without seeing it. Thoughts?
Great video bro. Btw my buddy uses live shrimp under a short leader, 7-8 inches, and he kills it. I can’t believe it. I don’t have the courage to try it haha Maybe redo the experiment with live shrimp.
My brother in law used fly fishing line for the bottom, water was clear, bait stayed afloat somewhat and bam caught Spanish mackerel that were feeding close to the edge.
Do yourself a favor and switch over to the Vudu shrimp. Tough as heck and won’t slide off the hook. I’ve caught dozens of trout on a single lure without adjusting or replacing. And with a multi jointed tail, they won’t be so lifeless and artificial like the doa. The hook is also weighted at the very front allowing the jointed tail to float to a small extent and create some balance for the body. And with every “pop” creating a realistic tail flip. Keep up the great videos and content! Ps. Would love a follow up video of the Rover. And how well or not so well it’s held up after so many trips over the years.
There’s these popping corks called “midcoast” and they want you to tie both mainline and leader line to the top ring. There is no bottom ring just a weight. Check em out if u haven’t seen em. They’re great in the shallows
Broooo. I've been trying to research "shrimping" in texas. Can't find much info except for a generalization of the bays. Don't really see people out here shrimping but I am sure they are here! You should do a shrimping video if you find the correct info where around corpus PA RP to skrimp. Also do you use braid? How do you do your leaders onto the soft plastic ? Looks like you have flouro line connected to your lure but braid in the spool

@@ThresherFishing At the end of your video you mentioned surf fishing, Which I've seen you do. SO... here's a little secret. Off park road 361, heading towards Port A and beach access #3 (if I got those right) there's a Hotel/Condos called the "Mayan Princes". In front of that hotel there is an old, old shrimp boat that sank and is under water. Sometimes at low tide you can barely see the mast, sometimes. But it's there. You can limit out on Trout, sometimes Reds, (seasonal) but Especially on Flatties! Yes you will probably loose a lure or 2, but you Will CATCH! OH,.. and BTW your drops on your popping corks should Always be 20/24". But cool experiment,.. I guess? LOL Anyways keep the line tight and keep doing it right. Peace brother...
@@ronguerin111 why do you say “always” for a 20-24” drop? I mean, I also always use a 20” drop on a popping cork/Cajun Thunder but I’d be willing to try a 14-16” drop under a Mansfield Mauler in the shallows or light chop during an aggressive feed.
@@johnkarges8829 Because you don't fish the potholes and the flats with a 30-32" inch drop (bait will be in the weeds) nor do you fish potholes and flats with a 6-7" drop because that would be Unnatural. Shrimp and baitfish come out of the grass and stay very close to that grass to retreat and cover. So in 3-4' of water the 20-24" inch drop range is the way to go. I've fished the same waters Coop has for longer than he's been born. He's cool. His videos are entertaining (mainly because of his character) and provides decent information. OH! And BTW a Mansfield Mauler is completely different from the Big corks Coop was throwing and the Big hard plastics. I actually prefer the maulers. Yes you have to tie twice, but still. They have a different sound and different action. Anyways, hopefully that sums it up for ya. Good Fishing Bro.
