- I love surf guitar, I love spaghetti western, and I love Cowboy Country. What better way to show my love for these sounds than with a Bass VI capoed like an A-A Baritone guitar through a clean fender amp with the reverb turned all the way up. Enjoy.

Great to hear!! A big loud twangy fender amp will get you there. Bridge pickup for maximum twang 🤘🤘 don’t forget the reverb and perhaps tremolo!

Im so glad! There’s a wealth of info about them now, the djent crowd and the Cure fans have seen to that. I do find however that the appreciation for their place in twangy rock n roll and surf is low. They were on so many records before even The Beatles got theirs. Check out Duane Eddy’s Blueberry Hill, or La Carioca by The Fireballs. 🔥

You know my original thought was that I’d capo it either at A B or C depending on what sort of baritone I wanted, even going to say G or G sharp to keep up with modern stuff, but I love it open as well. It invigorated my love for late 50s rock into surf sounds. It does however kick ass with a capo!

Nice! Capo works great! The Bass VI is as versatile as it is odd. 👍now can I justify getting another guitar 🤔
Let me tell you, I get asked to use this thing in sessions A LOT. Its versatility is the selling point. For a time I wanted another one strung A-A, but the capo obviated a lot of that need. Plus just doing low single note lines in a mix with the VI is glorious. Buy one man, they’re still not that expensive!

You know this is an astute observation! Since it’s a sample I’ve never been able to get the tone totally right, but thank you because I tried to make it my own! What it really is like you’ve assessed is a golden example of the style of 6 string bass parts from the late 50s/early 60s. Nice!!

I actually love it for hard rock and metal, I know right now it’s been rediscovered for that purpose but I always loved playing Mötorhead on it and such! There will be a rock medley soon…

honestly incredibly cool style and playing man.. loved the second twin peaks groove. ive been eyeing this guitar for months and this video's really sending me over the edge of wanting one.
Thank you so much brother, and let me just say you won’t be disappointed. I played it at an open mic yesterday and it was clear and beautiful! Another thing about it is it’s versatility. It can be a bass in a pinch, takes pedals great especially with the bridge pickup, use a capo and you have a B standard or A standard. People even restring them but I find the E-E tuning to be fantastic. I did buy a Dunlop bass VI set that upped the low string from an 84 to a 95 which helped the low tuning.

@@williamlalonde I wish I had, I’ve just done these couple videos on it. I’m playing it live a lot now, it’s finally getting it’s day! I only have one song on Spotify and it’s not my best, I just really wanted to be able to see my name there and play my music. As I make more I’m definitely gonna be using the VI a lot.

I just bought one of these and have found some helpful djentee videos which have shown me it can chug. But I'm amazed how many demos don't showcase country and vintage rock riffs. I just ordered a Bass VI and am going to use it in a punk rock duo. Knowing it can chug and twang...as well as rip some leads is confirming that this is going to cover all the ground I need it to. This was super helpful!@@abetreblebass
@@reubensinnema it’s truly amazing because I got mine before the current djent VI craze but I also intended to use it in rock. I love Soundgarden and other proggy doomy bands so I wanted it to be my main guitar for a band, then I found out how much fun it is as a twang machine. Punk Rock got me into music, Ian Mackaye has a duo with a baritone I believe and you’re right this thing is muscular and also rich in tone. I would love to hear what you do with it 🤘

I have done it before, I will say that the bass is obviously rounder through a bass amp, but it feels to me more like a mediocre bass with high strings that way. Playing it through a brassy fender amp is the sound I fell in love with, although I've done bass gigs with the VI through my rumble. I'll do it next time!

@@paninovevo1162 buy it my friend, you won’t regret it and they will continue to rise in price. It’s a great bass if you use your fingers and set the amp right, but then it’s also great with a capo for a higher baritone sound. Really versatile hahaha you won’t regret it!

Love this. What capo are you using?
A kyser 12 string capo, pretty much the only capo I use. It’s stronger than the standard 6 string capo so it works on heavier instruments!
Did you have to install a new bridge?
No i did not! I did however use a heavier gauge string set made by Dunlop with a 95 on the bass string.
A-A with capo on the 5th would make it C# sharp?
Actually I keep the Bass VI tuning so it's an E-E capoed at 5. That makes it A-A!!!

That's my Vox SDC-33, basically an sg with p90s and rails that you can engage or take out! I use it in my band Yucca Man, check us out on IG to hear it!
