An update on this. Edgar Ray Killen, AKA The preacher, was convicted of murder for his role in the "Mississippi Burning" murders almost half a century after they happened. He was also the only one that faced his charges because he was the only one still living when the state of Mississippi decided to reopen the case. He died in prison at the age of 92 in 2017.

I've watched the movie a few times. I had my children watch it when they were 10 & 8. I wanted them to learn what happened to Black People in America, it was the first movie of so many more about racism and the justice system. They live on their own now and we still watch informative movies & documentaries, as well as read articles. Our focus is on Indigenous People in Canada the last couple of years and there is so much to learn, which we will continue to do. They might not be purely true; however after the movie we google and see what we can find out and have discussions. I'm so glad I did because true history is still not being taught. I am thrilled we have these discussions.

@@CThomas-wg4gc Democrat Woodrow Wilson re-segregated many federal agencies and screened the racist film Birth of a Nation at the White House. Democrat FDR refused to invite four-time gold medalist Jessie Owen (a staunch Republican) to the White House (only invited white athletes) and interned 120,000 Japanese Americans. Eisenhower re-integrated the military and forced the integration of schools in Little Rock against the wishes of Democrat governor Orval Faubus. The racist Democrat LBJ started the welfare state and said “I’ll have those n#@!rs voting Democrat for the next 200 years,” highlighting the fact that Democrats care about black votes but not blacks. The welfare state has decimated the black family with 77 percent of children growing up fatherless. My best friend took a job teaching in Mississippi in 1993 because there were no teaching positions open to her where we lived. She went to a job fair and landed a teaching position in Mississippi where she continues to teach to this day. She told me long ago on several occasions that the war is not over and that believe it or not there is still active segregation going on in the small corner of our country where she lives and works. Not the kind of segregation that is illegal, but the silent kind that is unknown to the rest of the country. I believe her. I have been to visit her several times and there is a silent feel of segregation that the rest of the states will never know.

Mississippi is still the poorest state in the union, and just recently there's been the story of the contaminated water where the state asked residents to shower with their mouths closed. Not hating us for what a horrible time older generation of white individuals put them through. Love trumps hate every time. My teenage boy and girl. All whits school maybe 10 blacks out if 3500. I clown on my son for their generation of rap music. Try to get him to feel some Tupac. But he doesn’t like it cause he says the N word too much. Lol. I swear we don’t discuss it. @Renee Tate I think you made a good point there : hatred is sometimes based on fear/insecurity. So if a person is fearful/insecure, there is a greater chance that he will hate other people who cause fear/anxiety in him. Sensitivity/hurt is also part of the basis. Usually those characterisitics are combined in a person. However racial hatred is usually taught at home.

Edgar Ray Killen was convicted on the 41st anniversary of the crime and died in prison on Jan 2018. He got to live another 41 years after he took part in these 3 murders. Remember back in the mid-60s, the state of MS wouldn't bring charges and didn't care about investigating or prosecuting these murders. Cecil Price, the deputy sheriff, only got 6 years, serving 4 1/2 and this only for violating their civil rights, not for murder. It would've been good if the MS AG had been able to bring those murder charges in 2001 before Price died. There were so many racist KKK members and sympathizers who could've been brought to trial before they died. I know many of them were old and grey but they deprived many people of their lives so why should they have gotten to live out their golden years in peace.

Scarpa was sent to act like he was buying a TV from a store owned by a Klansman. He got the owner to load the TV in his car out back, and Scarpa and the FBI Kidnapped him, took him to a remote location, and mobster Scarpa tortured him until he gave up the location of the bodies. That's what really happened.

They treated these lovely human beings like they were animals .. "If you prick us do we not all bleed??" We are all the same just have different cultures and skin .. there is only 1 race and that is the human race .. it would seem that evidence had been destroyed accidentally on purpose like my mom used to say. I don't know how it works in certain states in the US but lots of covering up and sentences being changed .. no one was charged with murder and its stinks and corrupt!! Show them the real images of what they did to those lovely people . its so wrong human beings to act this way and they should of been held accountable for what they had done. These were peoples cherished lives and peoples children and families .. its wrong in many ways but i do feel the legal system stinks always have and always will be ..
