Exactly. How they think saying 2 white circles is easier than just saying 4". They could have so many more new customers by just digitising the rules set so you don't need a PhD in gaming to understand the rules.
What's more baffling is that the the number of inches don't relate to the number of sides of the shapes! Logically, if we must use shapes, this would make more sense: 1" - Circle (one side) 2" - Semi- Circle ( two sides) 3" - Triangle ( three sides) 6" - Hexagon ( six sides)

Very nice intro, thank you for your help. As for the game itself I must say I absolutely hate the shapes-represent-distance idea. Guess what - we already have a set of arbitrary symbols representing numbers. They're called numbers.

It took me a year to accept it, I played for a while, now I've given up again 🤣 More due to the stock issues and the way the new season has been handled, though.
Honestly it took me a second and I felt stupid, but the gauge is really intuitive. The black triangle end is 1". The white circle end is 2". The side with the blue square is a whole 3". The red pentagon stick is just a whole 6". Honestly the tool could be useful in 40k for small movements and engagement range. Also great for tight spots like KT and you can butt/lay it on the models base as opposed to cheating the tape measurer (I know people who can't read them).
It took me a year to get over the shapes and I kept converting them to inches. When I stopped doing that and especially with the new Gallowdark rules, the game got so much better for me. Definitely a great tool to use, and I'm finding it is perfect for AoS as you have to stay 3" away from other models.
Getting back into killteam and these videos are super helpful. Though I have to say, years later and the fact that they didn't use number of edges on shape == number of inches still thoroughly pisses me off haha. Was circle(1) -> line(2) -> triangle(3) -> hexagon(6) really too much of an intuitive leap??
I don’t know who came up with those new measuring crap sticks. It’s irritating me. I think I might have made a mistake buying it. 😡. I’ll go take a break now. Think and think about it lol. But your review and help in it it is awesome. 👍
Arnt the models movements measured in increments of white/circle/2 inches..so you lose inches if it only takes 1 inch to get around something? Which is why going over or through a windows costs 1 white/circle/2 inches.. as this may be faster.. This would mean your example (3:50) of the model moving around the junk pile is incorrect??? Great video.
Thanks! If you make a ‘Normal Move’ and just walk around rather than going over something like a scrap pile, then you can use any of the symbols as long as they add up to the values of your Movement characteristic. So you could use 1 Triangle, 1 Circle, and 1 Square as they would total 6 inches which is equivalent to the values of the 3 White Circles. If you ‘Traverse’ that’s when it costs you the white circle value. You can see the ‘Normal Move’ rules on Page 61 of the Core Book. The minimum increment of movement is 1 Triangle, so you can’t move in half inches. If you move anything less than 1 Triangle, it still equals 1 Triangle. I’ll be covering movement in later videos. Thanks for watching! 👊
I bought the original kill team when it came out a few years back, seems they have changed everything? I was new to it back then and still am, need to find people to play. Do I need a whole new rule book?
Kill Team uses the same models, but many of them in the new edition have extra sprues to make the operatives wysiwyg. But you can easily use what you have as long as it's clear which model is being played as which operative.
I'm a 40K vet and I've been interested in dipping my toe in the 40K Kill Team waters for a couple years now. I must say however, that the new movement system with the shapes and colors is absolutely absurd. We've had a simple movement system for years that has been play tested millions of times without issue, I don't understand the need to re-invent movement. I'll probably pick up Kill Team at some point and immediately throw the silly colored movement stick in the trash.
I'm about to start a WH40k how to play series for the main game which doesn't have the shapes involved. The more I played with the shapes rules for KT, the less I liked them.
Hey, the way I read the rules is If your movement is 3 circle you have to move in 2 inch (circle) increments or less. Your move is not 6 inches broken down how you like as you suggest at around 4minutes. The rule on page 61 states this. These rules are terribly written.
Did you see the ‘Normal Move 2’ example on page 61? The operative has a Movement characteristic of 3 circles but moves 1 Triangle, then 2 Circles, then 1 more triangle. So I’m pretty sure that when you make a normal move you can break it up as long as you stick to the minimum increment of movement which is 1 Triangle. But, when climbing (page 74-75) you do have to stick to the Circles and any movements are rounded up to the circle. (But you do have to be within 1 Triangle of a wall to start climbing! 😵💫) Just writing all these shapes makes me think they should have just stuck to inches!
@@tabletopskirmishgames I agree! It is unnecessarily complicated. “Remember that distances can be broken down to smaller increments, so long as the total distance the operative moves does not exceed its movement characteristic” page 61 so smaller than circle but not square? So you can do 6 triangle or as the example 2 triangle and 2 circle. Just not the square. Of course when you dash it all changes again!!
Mistake You said that 3o is equal a 6 move and that is not so. 3o Means You can move a straight line up to 2, then you can turn left or right or in diagonal and move another direction straight line up to to and then turn again and move up to 2
