To all of you who are ready to say "hey old man". Vince will say "I'll show you who's an old man"!! This man is an inspiration to us all to be all you can be!!
You really saw him play? Thats amazing. I emailed him a while back when I was feeling low, and he had nothing but encouragement, God bless him. I bet he played his heart out.
I think every hs football coach should show this movie to his team on the first day of fall practice. It shows how hard work and dedication can make up for size and talent.
@@morales1961 yeah. I just looked it up, but 6' 2" is still much taller than Wahlberg at 5' 8". It gives people the misconception that Papale was a small guy making it in a big man's position. Papale also played almost 2 years in the World Football League before catching on with the Eagles. It's not like he just walked in off the streets.
@@joeevett9007 No, he has no touchdowns in his career. Implying that a botched punt like that is not returnable, which is the current rule. The runner must have full possession and then fumble for it to be returned.
Kind of happened. He wasn't at a general try-out. He had played for the WFL and met Eagles leadership first and had a private try-out where he made the team. So, he wasn't just some out of work teacher working as a bartender before he got there with no experience as a football player.
Women do that kinda of stuff to make them feel better about leaving you. Women are very mean at times to good guys but yhey can be nice to guys who are mea and dont deserve it. I guess you got to be a girl to think like they do. Most want riches and fame and nice life to happen overnight and dont want to wait years to get it. But oh well they only think short term.
That's why they go through life looking , and always end up with the wrong guy . It's like they would rather have a life filled with drama and stress or being happy .
The real play was a TD scored by player Arturo Mendez, but the announcers accidently called out Vince Papale as the playmaker. Mendez almost gave up hope that the statistic would be fixed, but in 1998 the NFL corrected the mistake. Years Later Disney used Papale in their film and Mendez once again lost hope.
Why can't sports movies ever have actors say the sort of things you hear from actual play-by-play people during games. The lame dialogue by the person doing the play-by-play in this movie just ruins this scene for me.
@Michael - It did happen; OFCOURSE not in that exact same way as in the movie; but, it did happen. Giants vs. Eagles game September 19th, 1976. Punt return; Papale hit the receiver so hard, the receiver fumbled the ball and Papale caught it and ran with it… yeah.

Definitely one of the best walk on players of all time
I saw the real Vince Papale play…….he was a joy to watch knowing how hard he worked to get there…..
Tending bar and going up against Tony Bologna in try outs... dude was a stud!

Totally agree

One of the best movies I've ever seen.

I hope this inspired everyone to go against all odds... it certainly has helped me.

Everything except for the touchdown.

The greatest touchdown in Eagle's history!

Nice movie

Wish nfl still did walk ons like this sadly they don’t anymore
This can't happen now since 99.9% of all punts are safety catches.

Never understood this ending. Cant advance a muff punt.
Because by the rules that would be a fumble. Return caught, got hit, then lost the ball.
punt returner had possesion, fumbled. Thus return
