Winner is a very precious song to me. With Beat Drum and Manse, it felt like Onew was having fun and making the music he wanted. Winner feels like a personal declaration of inner peace and happiness and triumph over trauma. Knowing even a fraction of what Onew has been through, hearing him sing "Even if I fall down, I’ll get back up, I’ll smile and ask you, now, who’s the winner?" makes me feel so emotional and proud of him. He seems truly happy these days.

I'm 100% with you on Onew this past year. The label change has been so good for him. Winner in particular makes me literally tear up, and I don't even speak Korean. I think this was shot in the Czech Republic.

Onew seems to be having so much fun these days
He’s creating so much, his CEO and him are long time friends (they were trainees together and friends of 19 years) and they share so many cute heart warming pictures and short videos of their time together
His new CEO defends him like a tiger as well against « fans » and SM alike, and I love that for our boy
You can see this in his last songs I feel like, so much diversity, so much fun, and I can’t wait to see more, we were really blessed by content recently !!

Such a genuine review! I have never seen this kind of MV reaction. As a huge fan of Onew, I have really enjoyed watching and supporting his work since the Circle album. My most loved words from you are "it's powerful" and "he is just one small person in this big world, but really makes you empathize." Connection is between Circle and Flow, as he said. Onew wished this song would impress people and fill their lives with happiness,regard and cheering and yes, it does well. I also appreciate your explanation of the practical budget and location aspects, which made my view wider for this MV and other works by Onew and SHINee. Your journey with Onew this past year really mirrors my own experience discovering his music and leaning on it during hard times. I love seeing your appreciation and your thoughts on his music, I agree with your interpretation of Winner as a triumphant and defiant follow-up or spiritual successor to Circle. I have watched this video SO MANY TIMES - and it stills makes my eyes overflow and creates a lump in my throat. Like all of us, Onew went through so much to get to a place where he is now comfortable again. He has been so healing for me - I wish him nothing but happiness and healing. I've been waiting, WAITING ❤ for your take on the Winner MV, and once again, I'm just in AWE of the details that professionals like you can appreciate and fanboy over this amazing work of art. I especially love how you point out the linguistic nuance the lyrics that Onew had written himself.
Much like Circle, there is so much storytelling in the MV, particularly the scenes of Onew's internal struggles contrasting with him calmly walking around and observing other people. Everyone has a story, what appears to be beautiful and perfect was achieved by people just trying and doing their best over and over again. While Circle moves inward, Winner moves outward and forwards.
I'm incredibly happy that Jinki is clearly working with talented people who not only know and love their craft but also connect with and understand an artist like him.

Ah PD, when you said those things before the MV, I was thinking you are going to love this so much…perfect timing. I see the early injuries as an outward expression of inner pain that not everyone is or can be aware of. While it’s sad it’s also a progression through that to acceptance, peace and then happiness. Although it’s for the MV I also think it’s a reflection on Jinki’s real life journey too. It’s difficult and uncomfortable to see injuries on him but I think that’s exactly the point. He hid his pain and issues for a long time which became overwhelming together with his health. I think it’s amazing that he’s been able to be so open, honest and vulnerable to fans as well as artistically since his return … and that makes this song even more powerful and beautiful. He makes me feel even more proud of him as a Shawol for overcoming his difficulties and sharing his struggles and journey to inspire others. I cried when I watched it a few times. It’s the Blue hour time for the roof top filming. It’s time when the day is ending, but the night not yet started. It's the time of the day when the day of rushing and working has ended and the promise of what the night brings is vivid and alive… it lasts for less than an hour so I think it was a very deliberate film decision and timed perfectly. Connection couldn’t be called anything else… This MV the first song I feel, draws the listener in with a feeling of being heard emotionally, of empathy and the belief in themselves. Jinki always puts his soul into his music and it’s his way of communicating (connecting) and now he is able to do this on his terms and in his way. It’s beautiful.🥲❤️

Love how much you are loving Onew. He is my bias, too. His music has helped me emotionally as well. He has a beautiful gift, a healing power. Winner is such a meaningful song once I realized that he has been through. I guess this is the power of staying relevant for so long, and since some of their fans (like me) aging into adulthood with them and having some life experience now, it just feels so much different from the young generations of idols.
