For any parents out there, I played through 'Kirby: Forgotten Lands' with my Daughter (7), and we had a great time with it. Beating the last boss together was really special, well worth the price of the game :)
I played it with my nephew who's around the same age and he had a blast. This and Spyro are the 2 games I've never seen him smile so much playing something.
I played it with my sister who never played any videogames before and it was cool to see her react to kirby dancing and stuff and I helped whenever she needed it. good times.
I agree. It was my son's birthday present and we played through it together as well . I will add that I wish they put more thought into the co op bc I've always despised the whole one player gets the camera and the other player just kinda gets dragged along sometimes off cliffs or into lava etc but other than that we had tons of fun sitting on the couch playing this game together . Also my son is 5 it's his favorite game except for astro bot.
I found Zelda Tears of the kingdom at our local walmart for $30.00! Maybe it was a mistake but I definitely grabbed one. Happy I waited happy holidays everyone
Sometimes you just get a good deal I got a copy of Elden ring for £10 because someone messed up but it's a big corporation's mistake so I don't feel bad
Black Friday was crazy this year! I saw that deal, and also grabbed Kirby’s Forgotten land for only $35, and a bunch of other big titles were in that 30 range
As a GameStop (Canada) employee I always look forward to your thoughts on what games to avoid and what games would be good to recommend for customers outside my normal genres
I mean, last year was kinda insane. And this year is still better than last year's of the Wii and Wii U. ...unless the Switch 2 comes out November next year and Nintendo has nothing beforehand I guess
I honestly love watching this tradiontal series every year. hopefully this holiday tradition continues whenever the switch 2 or whatever name reveal console comes next woods. :
As a new proud owner of a switch, I can say these videos help. The physical only is a must as someone that likes to actually own a game (and if it is like the ds to 3ds, maybe they will be usable in the switch 2) and having someone that knows Nintendo stuff give some recommendations is reassuring.
I bought 3 lites and I feel they are perfect and I'll be playing them for the rest of my life. That was like 4 years ago and I'm usually not home but I still feel their probably the perfect handheld or any console in general
@@jikosauce I still own a 12 year old dsi (somehow still works), and I finally decided to upgrade to the switch. I don't care if it's nostalgia, there is nothing like a Nintendo device.
As a hardcore gamer, this helps me 1) decide what games to get myself 2) remember everything that came out this year to buy as gifts and 3) how to help my friends/coworkers when then inevitably ask me for advice on Christmas shopping
To answer your question from the end of the video, I've watched this every year since the first quarantine Christmas and I'm just here for the ride, it's amazing you keep doing this and thanks for the fun. I can't believe it's been a year again tho
To be honest, I stopped watching your videos a few years ago (except the vlogs, I love them), but I look forward to this video every year. It's become a bit of a Christmas tradition for me.
for anyone that’s thinking about getting Sonic Shadow Generations, PLEASE know that there may a learning curve for you as it’s not an easy pickup and play game, but as you progress, you can do some amazing things in the game.
I watch this yearly for two reason. Just to see where you put games. Its fun to see the avoids. Also, sometimes there are games I wanted to try but forgot about and you remind me of thier existance, for better or worse.
I find it a bit strange that you would put Xenoblade 3 in the must buy category but not the other two. Honestly, if someone is going to get into Xenoblade, they really should start with the first one. Especially since you mention the DLC for Xenoblade 3. That DLC pretty much requires you to have played the ENTIRE trilogy up to that point, otherwise you're just gonna be lost with many aspects of the story.
@GoldChocobo77 It's okay to play the base game first, though you will get more out of it if you know the previous two games. The DLC, not so much. That's a conclusion to the complete trilogy as a whole and it just throws you in there, expecting full knowledge of the story and many characters from all three games.
Yeah but he absolutely HATES Xenoblade 2 so he might’ve been a little biased in not putting it in must buy. I think “maybe” would’ve been fine for the rest of the games though
I actually got Oregon Trail on release and have no regrets. It's fun, it's got the classic nostalgia with updated gameplay and honestly, a really good addition in other journeys that let you unlock professions tools for the main story. Probably not for a kid who is easily bored, but as an adult i love it!
Just bought my first Nintendo Switch for the family (at black Friday reduced price). Used to have the Wii & loved it, trying to replicate that experience (all age game play + exercise). First time watching you. Very good reviews, moved along a little too quickly to write things down (thankful for the rewind function)! Trying to see what is available for younger kids & adults (over 55). Have Mario Kart 8 Deluxe & Switch Sports. Like them both. Not into violence or fighting/killing games so that narrows the field alot. I like how you divided the games by price & categories, very helpful. I will never pay over $50 for any game, so good to know which ones are going up or down in price.
I don't know why but I love getting into December with you recommending me games I already own 😂 and thank you for helping others it's really helpful for the people that want to get gifts for their kids but don't know what video games are good
This video helped give me!! I'm at the age where i'm still living with my parents but i'm about to graduate high school. And because of that my parents have stopped trying to hide my presents and started just straight up asking what i want for Christmas, sometimes buying my gifts while i'm with them at the store. This video gave me some ideas of what to ask for for!!
I love this series of yours, been following for years!! That said I still think you should release these videos prior to Black Friday sales, so about 2 weeks earlier
YAAAAAAY - Yesterday I started going through your annual lists from when you started (only started watching you last week) SUPER pumped for this vid - getting an OLED Switch for this Christmas
Thank you! You are perhaps, one of the mentally healthiest youtubers to follow. Your content always feels so wholesome. So glad! been following you for many years now. Happy Holidays!
Starlink is an underrated game if you like Star Fox or space shooter games, IMO. I bought it when they started selling it with the full dlc bundle. The controls feel more like a mech game (you have to press up in the left joystick to move forward and use the right stick to aim and turn), but it’s the only Star Fox we got for this console, so that in itself was worth it. Plus raids and space dog fights are pretty entertaining.
Pokèmon Let's Go is truly one of the most interactive pokèmon games i ever played, i would def grab it if it wasn't for the fact that nowadays it's very hard to find ppl who play old pokèmon games to exchange the exclusive versions and complete the dex.
What I like about Wood's videos like this, is it's genuine and not selling everything saying "it's amazing". Because there is a fair amount of trash games out there too...I mean, can you argue with a guy who practically owns Nintendo's *entire* library :D Also, video quality is always top dolla'
also, he actually explains who it could be for!! which is way more helpful than “this was good, i liked it, it’s critically acclaimed” type stuff. like FPS type games can be great, but i would absolutely hate getting one for christmas bc i can’t play them😂
I love watching this buying guide each year, it feels like the start of the holidays when I see it posted. Thank you for all the hard work you have put into them. I put up my Christmas decorations while watching your rankings and it brings me so much joy. ❤🎄
If you're an RPG fan, you're gonna love it. Even though I've never played the original version, I'd say it holds up pretty well. The quality of life improvements in the remake are definitely more than welcome.
Just found your channel. I remember you filming me selling at Gepps Cross in 2011/2012 and me asking you not to. Now I'm filming people and they're asking me not to! Times have changed. Good to see you doing well!
Walmart had some crazy deals!! Got Tears for 30, animal crossing for 30, Pikman 4 for 30. I also got Pikman 1+2 for 30 from Bestbuy, and FF 1-6 Pixel Remaster for 20 bucks off at 54.99. This was a good black friday/cybermonday for me.
I picked up Another Code having never played the original release and loved it. It’s my favourite pick up of the year, and it came with a preorder bonus that I sold for half of what the game cost me lol
Watching because it always makes me want to pick up my Switch again and revisit old favorites, plus I wanted your opinion on Mario & Luigi Brothership. Great video, and as a very lucky child who was gifted a NES in 1991 and a PlayStation in 1997: I am feeling excited this year for all the kids getting a Switch from Santa to enjoy all these wonderful games.
Great list! Excellent job on the video. I do want to warn people about Faefarm at least with my experience. Though I loved the game at first, as I progressed in the game (4 dungeons/mines) and built up my far game, the game began to run like trash. By the end of dungeon 2 I would get the occasional slowdowns, music desyncs and so on, by dungeon 4 I had to stop playing because the game ran at like 2 fps and caused my switch to make unpleasant noises. I've played plenty of games since Faefarm and had no abnormal issues. I also personally liked the Bravely Default games, but I also understand if they aren't everyone's cup of rpg tea.
Just with Outer Worlds, they ended up patching it and now it runs great on Switch! probably explains the slight price increase also, for Overcooked I would recommend the All You Can Eat collection over the Overcooked 1+2 Pack. All You Can Eat contains Overcooked 1 and 2 but remastered with nicer graphics and added content, plus the ability to play online!
Hey Wood. Just a thought. For games novices that watch these vids, they may not know what the acronyms stand for. Like DLC, we know it stands for Diluted Loan Credit. But some people won’t. 🙂
Thank goodness I saw this video before getting some games for my missus this Christmas. Also Merry Christmas and glad you’re doing so well. I remember when your channel had a couple hundred k subs and it’s got nearly 2 million! Well deserved
I usually get enough free time to play my switch on holidays so I look forward to these videos just to know what I should pick up this year or to be reminded of games I bought and forgot about.
Only reason I hadn’t gotten persona 5 tactics for my switch was because I was struggling to convince myself to buy it when I have an Xbox with gamepass but then I saw it on clearance for $15 and I like having physical games, and now I can play tactica on the go
I like the warioware games. They aren't really that short. It's like an arcade game. You play the levels over and over to get a high score. I've never seen anyone just play each level once and claim to be done. That aside I love watching your games to buy video every year. I like seeing where you've placed everything.
Love this video. I think I just enjoy hearing someone talk about games that I love. Maybe I’ll find something I wasn’t aware of. Merry Happy Holiday season.
This year the list seems more fair. The Atelier games have fantastic crafting systems (one of the best in my opinion for most of the franchise) so for anyone who loves getting into the nitty gritty these are a blast.
Why is a single TMNT game not on this list? Especially Shredder’s Revenge. That’s a must buy. There’s a lot of avoid TMNT games that should be avoided.
With the console ending, so many sales going on, used prices based more on rarity than quality ( or seemingly based on nothing at some thrift stores, pawn shops, marketplace, and yard sales ), etc., it'd be a cool evergreen to have a video where you assign values to as many games as possible based solely on gameplay experience... completely disregarding their current or future prices.
Detective Pikachu Returns is a good example. It's almost universally agreed it should be avoided at full retail price... but it's also widely known you can usually grab a Japanese copy for under $12 shipped. Heck, I snagged a copy with a lucite card frame ( preorder promo ) for $7.50. I'd say for a younger kid, it's $15-20 worth of fun... though, for me, I'll probably get more value out of the promo frame.
You should boycott Dreamlight Valley because the devs lied to everyone. They said once it left early access, it would be free. Then said “nah” and made it a paid game.
Who cares, it was Gameloft's decision, to get more money out of the game and players in the DDV community. Especially since they just finished the A Rift in Time DLC, and just released the Storybook Vale DLC a month ago. And yes, I'm a die hard DDV player and fan. There are plenty of UA-camrs out there that enjoy the game too. Locking special content, characters, and features behind DLC is their thing now, but they still plan on adding new stuff to the free base game. I'm broke, but still going to get the Storybook Vale DLC when I can. I'm more looking forward to seeing Aladdin characters early next year, same as Alice from Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan. 😁
I actually wanted digimon survive when it came out but for reasons I wasn’t able to get it, when I finally could it was on sale for $20 and came with the bonus starting gear pack, I actually think it’s a decent visual novel and the digimon tactics gameplay is a fun tactics enthusiast bonus.
I like how you are the big gamer but haven't even played most of the games you own, but your wife as fewer games but really plays them and she isn't a real gamer.
I'm sorry, did you just flatly miss the target on the consoles that the Final Fantasy games originally released on? the Pixel remakes are from the OG NES and SNES. Zero Sony involvement.
I can recommend this one as well. It does drop FPS from time to time, but its more than playable. The only issue i got is fact how slow the game is. You will spend hours before you get 1st bros attack or fight 1st Boss. Also game is long for no reason, i have feeling like they done it like that so ppl will play it trough whole holiday season.
I honestly feel like Wood should start putting PS5 and XBox in these videos. I know he's a Nintendo UA-camr, but I feel like this format leads to a lot of "don't buy this, its the worst version". You could instead start doing "don't buy this on Switch. Itll run better on PS5." or something.
@Beatemups any suggestions for me on a game for an 8 year old who is pretty smart with gaming but not like super advanced (Breath of The Wild would be too much but she did well with Astro Bot). My biggest concern is still young and just learning to read so she needs help and doesn’t like asking for it. I was considering: -Lego Horizon Adventures because it’s fully voice acted. -Stray because she loves cats -Disney Illusion Island -Spyro Reignited -Kirby Forgotten Land (worried about the amount of reading) -Peach Showtime (but worried about the reading amount though it does have instructions on screen) -Epic Mickey but I think it’s too much reading for her. -Yoshi’s Craft World is just hair too easy I think from the Demo I played
@EchanteDante My 8yo is the same, an extra issue is that he doesn’t understand that much English yet (we’re Norwegian). He was able to figure out Peach Showtime on his own after I translated the first 20 min or so. He also really enjoyed Captain Toad and Kirby Star Alliance. Even Zelda Echos of Wisdom seems to work well after just translating the intro! (And he is NOT afraid to ask for help!😂) From your list we also have Disney Illusion Island, but that requiered quite a lot of reading/translating. Hope that helps a little! I have Spyro and Stray on my maybe list too. 😊
These are My favorite videos! Even though I mostly know about all these games, I love hearing about them again. I honestly look forward to these videos yearly. It’s even how I found this channel in the first place.
I really enjoy your Nintendo Switch holiday buying guide especially because I am always looking for games for my kids and I to play together🥰.This is the year my youngest gets their own switch for Christmas🥰.Thats always a special moment when you get your first gaming console for Christmas🥰🥰🥰🥰
I always enjoy these and use them as a look back to help me revise my backlog of games to play and potentially shuffle/refresh it. Great compendium for someone who is not able to keep up with dozens of game releases a month 👌
These videos are fun to watch! They have helped me feel so cheered up considering that the holidays have been tough times of the year for the last few years. So thank you for creating these videos. I do recommend dragon quest 3 2D remake for anyone that wants a simple story with a beautiful facelift. It shines in its simplicity, and it's a wonderful place to start!

also, for Overcooked I would recommend the All You Can Eat collection over the Overcooked 1+2 Pack. All You Can Eat contains Overcooked 1 and 2 but remastered with nicer graphics and added content, plus the ability to play online!
Even if I do not plan on buying any more Switch games this year, just watching this holiday guide fills me with joy. Thank you for the video, Wood!
I always watch these to start the Christmas season!
Hey Wood. Just a thought. For games novices that watch these vids, they may not know what the acronyms stand for. Like DLC, we know it stands for Diluted Loan Credit. But some people won’t. 🙂
Hahahahaha😂 THE DLC joke is so funny.
Merry Christmas ❤
MySims is also from the DS, they were the first games i had on my DS and i loved them then, i may need a copy for the switch
Just a lil extra, Rayman Legends Definitive Edition is on sale for $8 rn!! Pretty damn worth it in my opinion :3
Thank goodness I saw this video before getting some games for my missus this Christmas. Also Merry Christmas and glad you’re doing so well. I remember when your channel had a couple hundred k subs and it’s got nearly 2 million! Well deserved
You take that Carnival Games SLANDER back!!! That was my childhood on the Wii!!!
I usually get enough free time to play my switch on holidays so I look forward to these videos just to know what I should pick up this year or to be reminded of games I bought and forgot about.
27:37 Im here for your opinion on the updated list.
Immortals phoenix rising is awful 0/10 game
Lmao I was literally just thinking to myself “did beatemups upload a buying guide for this year?” And lo and behold, here it is!
Just got Red Dead Redemption yesterday for $35..I was waiting for a price drop because $50 wasn't cutting it
How is it on the switch
@anthonyanoffbrand4419 it's running really good on the switch
Glad you're still showing starlink a little bit of love. I'm replaying it and sheesh does it make me want another mainline StarFox game.
Only reason I hadn’t gotten persona 5 tactics for my switch was because I was struggling to convince myself to buy it when I have an Xbox with gamepass but then I saw it on clearance for $15 and I like having physical games, and now I can play tactica on the go
Wow where was that!? That’s an amzing price!
Merry Christmas!
Was waiting for this video 😁
Who cares, good game = money
Its Disney. That was NOT happening.
@@tech23gaming16 So you’re ok with being lied to?
@@Zeldas_gf That’s not the point, if they wanted it to be a paid game then they shouldn’t have lied and said it would be free,
Who cares, it was Gameloft's decision, to get more money out of the game and players in the DDV community.
Love this annual videos, they really make you feel a way a good way
Did he seriously just say ff 1-6 were ps1 games???
He did! I also couldn't believe that 😅
The video is good, just wish taiko no tatsujin rhythm festival kinda got more attention.love the video! It helps me find games year after year
I'm sorry, did you just flatly miss the target on the consoles that the Final Fantasy games originally released on? the Pixel remakes are from the OG NES and SNES. Zero Sony involvement.
Thanks for your annual tiered game list! I also liked hearing about those small print games that are spiking in price
Can’t believe you say “avoid: Emio - the smiling man” 😳
It’s a masterpiece and more people should play it 💜
Mario and luigi brothership have so much mario RPG charm, I love them. Every new location is fun. They really are a must buy!!
How is sonic x shadow generations not worth the $50??? It’s 2 games and hours of content. 💀
One of the games is a remaster of a very old game now tho lets be real
Many people already have one of the games
@@M_CFV ok but ones entirely new and not even full priced
I agree, Sonic Adventure 2 is an old game, same as Sonic Generations, but both are awesome! I'm still wanting to get Sonic Shadow Generations! 😁
i have to say wood is genuinely gifted and excellent at advertising
I honestly feel like Wood should start putting PS5 and XBox in these videos. I know he's a Nintendo UA-camr, but I feel like this format leads to a lot of "don't buy this, its the worst version". You could instead start doing "don't buy this on Switch. Itll run better on PS5." or something.
This vid came out on my BDAY!!!! Love the content and may love spread to all who are reading this
Happy birthday! I hope you have a great day!
@Beatemups any suggestions for me on a game for an 8 year old who is pretty smart with gaming but not like super advanced (Breath of The Wild would be too much but she did well with Astro Bot). My biggest concern is still young and just learning to read so she needs help and doesn’t like asking for it.
I was considering:
-Lego Horizon Adventures because it’s fully voice acted.
-Stray because she loves cats
-Disney Illusion Island
-Spyro Reignited
-Kirby Forgotten Land (worried about the amount of reading)
-Peach Showtime (but worried about the reading amount though it does have instructions on screen)
-Epic Mickey but I think it’s too much reading for her.
-Yoshi’s Craft World is just hair too easy I think from the Demo I played
@EchanteDante
My 8yo is the same, an extra issue is that he doesn’t understand that much English yet (we’re Norwegian).
My 7 year old loves Paper Mario Origami King. It helped her a lot to improve reading and it is really fun.
How about Lego Worlds? My daugter played that when she was 7, then found Minecraft at 8. Still playing Minecraft at 11 😂
You missed New Super Lucky's Tale. Great game and a must buy.
These buying guides are always my favorite videos of yours on top of the Switch accessory videos I always look forward to both!
That's the wolf den! You know each other on real life? Wow. Happy new years and merry holidays to you and your family/friends. Thank you!
I knew this video was coming. If you go to his 2023 one, I said I hope he makes a new one of these. Love these vids 💪🏻
Love to see that Wood is getting close to 2 mil. subscribers. He so deserves it. Great great content, thank you so much❤
This feels like a satisfying concluding to the Nintendo podcast discussing the switch sale lol
i know wood hates these videos but theyre honestly some of my favorites 😂
These are My favorite videos! Even though I mostly know about all these games, I love hearing about them again. I honestly look forward to these videos yearly. It’s even how I found this channel in the first place.
I really enjoy your Nintendo Switch holiday buying guide especially because I am always looking for games for my kids and I to play together🥰.This is the year my youngest gets their own switch for Christmas🥰.Thats always a special moment when you get your first gaming console for Christmas🥰🥰🥰🥰
I got astral chain pre owned for 40 this black Friday at gamestop. Got other games around that 40 for the buy 2 get 1 so I was pretty happy
I always enjoy these and use them as a look back to help me revise my backlog of games to play and potentially shuffle/refresh it. Great compendium for someone who is not able to keep up with dozens of game releases a month 👌
Love watching these every year
These videos are fun to watch!
I can finally watch this and be like ' I might buy one of the games in the video ' cause I bought a switch like in August
Your guide helps me decide what games I want for Christmas.
Thanks. Using this as a buying guide for gamer gifts since I know nothing.
