    People probably laughed at the family picking up corn seed, but growing up in the 70's on a nebraska farm, if a seed bag broke, you were on the ground picking every seed you could find. And it was no laughing matter.

    We planted 65 acres of dryland corn this year. Planted 7,500 seeds / acre on June 16 in the NW part of Texas. The planter was set with 3 in and 12 out. The clumps of 3 are staggered. Using P1548AM which is a variety with strong roots and good ear flex. Should make 50 to 75 bu if we get some rain. Planting 3.25" deep helps with the roots. This is on the corners of a pivot. The pivot should average 280 bu/ac.

    You can bale the stalks for the cattle to eat. Mix it with your hay when you grind. Just another way to extend you hay supply. The Peterson Brothers farm was doing all kinds of things last year to feed there cattle. If there's a way there's a will. Best of luck on a successful harvest this year. Really enjoy your videos and you have an amazing family value.

    We plant 35,000 PP/Acre in Wisconsin dry land, it waste high already. I’ve never even heard of 77 day corn. The shortest we’ve ever plan was 93 day and that’s double cropped after ryegrass (years ago). Mostly 105 to 110 day straight plant with double crop being 98 to 103 day usually.

Also, have you ever thought about wearing disposable gloves when handling seed and chemicals? Our skin is highly absorbent and I think it would be wise to do so.

    • @davidlogel2350
      @davidlogel2350 2 роки тому

      It works fine, just not great. You get 3 and 4 seeds way to close together instead of the even spacing a good planter can give you. If you’re growing for grazing the cattle will trample more and you’ll have more waste because they don’t walk down the rows and eat like they would on 24” or 30” rows. (3320 on 10” spacings)
