Steve used to get 75 damage mid-screen off of a better version of B+1, with an easier combo, without having to spend any resources. Tekken 8 Steve’s not bottom tier but let’s not act like he’s a hidden top tier, he’s still the weakest version of the character by far.
He's really cool in T8 and he's got a lot of untapped potential, I feel. But yeah compared to other characters in this game, he's working a lot harder for less reward and his kit has more flaws and gaps, like Lionheart being pretty easy to play around. (I think Lionheart is a good summary of T8 Steve in a nutshell, you do an armor move and beat every option he can pick and Steve has to work his ass off doing 30 different cancels in order to play around the opponent pressing one button lol) Shit's pretty rough but I really feel he's one of the coolest and most fun characters in this game.
since ttt2 i started noticing alot of players even on very high level switching characters often, sometimes in tournaments, weird that it didn't happen as much before there's more similiarities between characters, so maybe it just became easier over time but in general it's good to try out alot of characters in fughting games if you can, to see what they do from both perspectives
