The funniest part of Mario Maker play throughs are the death Xs out in nowhere.
I just can't fathom how they died there, I spend at least 10 min just trying to die near there.
I just can't do it, no matter how hard I try, I can't even get close.
And I know there is somebody somewhere out there, who can't figure out how not to die there.

The problem is that the spike block turns on/off the frame the switch is hit, but the spike animation doesn't start for another frame or two.

Blame nintendo on that one there is essentially a frame between when the spike hitbox is on/off and when the spike itself emerges/detracts :/
You know Alpharad’s content is great when I rage just as much as he does when he or Jo plays SMM2. Take the moment at 6:29. I screamed at the top of my lungs in rage and slapped the life out of my right knee when Jacob died. I’m not even joking.
And I did it again when I watched him die at 11:36. I have no words left.
The guy who did it in 1 minute is a god, a platforming *DEITY* that transcends space & time.

You just hear Alpha pleading for mercy while Toadette jumps with joy and laughter
The spike blocks have a 4 frame animation when they are activated or deactivated. The instant the animation starts, their "hurtbox" also changes between ON and OFF. You were standing on "no spikes" visually, but in reality the first frame of animation happened right then and there.
That should really be programmed to switch on frame 2 or at least when the state change is visible.

It’s so fun to see the man that you love and respect mentally breakdown on the verge of tears over a bunch of pixels that he can control. Because that’s all video games are.
I love how when Alpha plays solo, he hardly ever swears. Even in a stage like this.
I did EVERYTHING in Meat Boy twice. A couple years later, I went to help my brother beat a couple stages that took a million deaths, and i wondered why I ever spent so much time on the game. I look at Mario Maker and know it will make me feel the same way. It looks fantastic to watch with Alpharad, but I just can't spend this much time doing so very little in a game.

I think I posted this once, but to help Alpha a little, there's an even longer long jump that is about the fastest speed you can go, and it is done by crouching then pressing roll or dash, and then jumping. You can do it quickly and have a rolling long jump, or delay it and do a roll then long jump. It covers quite a bit more distance than a long jump and can be effective for speed running or technical play, as it can also break blocks if your Super Mario.

I believed Alpha when he said he'd be milking this game, but the thing is that I probably will be more consistent about watching his SMM2 uploads than his SSBU uploads. Watching him lose, even if he's not audibly frustrated, is more entertaining than being cocky about schooling friends and online randos.

8:03 I figured it out. Unless they've updated it since this video, the reason he got killed when there were no spikes, and stayed alive when the spikes still were present is because the hit boxes for the spikes appear before the actual model, as shown in case A, and disappear before the model, case B.

Alpha, the spike animation is delayed by a frame, but the hit box isn’t. That’s why when you die to spikes as they’re coming out, you don’t see them

Nintendo: here's a cool trick you can do with On/Off blocks that make blink block redundant and in a way worse as you can't adjust the speed
this video is making me frustrated by its self. I cant handle the frustration of almost being there.
the hit box changes on frame zero of retracting/deploying the spikes so if you are touching the block the second the shell deploys the spikes it hits you but the animation takes so long to catch up
