    Quadrophenia was the reason there was a mod revival coinciding with The Jams all mod cons, everything else followed on from there, secret affair, the chords, Purple Hearts, Merton parkas, the lambrettas, nine below zero, etc etc.., the best time of my life I was obsessed with all of it…

    my family went to the UK in 1979 (my mum is from St Hellens, merseyside) and there were all these kids running around in parkas with targets and union jacks on them, i was like; What the fuck is this all about, eventually after returning to Australia i saw adds for Quadrophenia, but it was when i first heard the Jam (Start !) that it all started making sense to me, they released an EP inAust called 4 side affects, which had , Start,Going underground ,eton rifles, and Thats entertainment) and my mind was blown, for the next few years i was obsessed with Mod.

      Kiwi, I was in London 81 - The Jam were huge and the pub I worked in (New Golden Lion, Fulham) was a Mod gathering hole on Sundays. Ska was much much bigger though! Even Rockabilly was bigger! Later on I was living in Perth 1985, and the mod/skinhead scene was niche but excellent - Hay Street Mall was their parade ground. Oi oi oi!

    Good to see Brett B. Buddlesworth there, lead skiffle-rattler and flugelhorn player of The Chords. Some say his ghost still haunts some of the old venues around London....

    I came from the 80s teenage generation that was more about kids wearing parkas and badges than having the proper gear. It wasn’t that much different if you were a punk, mod or greaser by the mid 80s. Scruffy jacket, boots and badges.

    Secret Affair are class & I respect Pagey. Top geezer! However, Weller carried the "revival" on when others - including 2-Tone mentioned below - floundered. As for The poxy Lambrettas dont make me laugh - a 3rd rate load of pop-pap [even Jez admitted he wanted to go that way!] who got 'plastic' mods following em just because of the name - as do their new garbage line-up nowadays! Awful pub-rock-pap now! Come on Ian P - you could do with a proper mod support band mate!

    Always have to snigger when Weller is mentioned in the same breath as 'Small Faces' and 'The Who'......it's totally ridiculous, why didn't this mod wannabe with his mailorder parka and fancy shoe wear, didn't make it big outside the U.K.? He admittedly had some good tunes, but nothing to get worked up about, and surely nothing that could compare to the classic 60's bands.....
    He deserves credit though for not keeping on flogging a dead horse, and knocked it on the head when the Jam were at their 'highpoint'......

      +PAULLONDEN What you mean same fancy footwear Roger Daltrey used to wear in the High Numbers LOL www.thewho.info/PressPhotos/The_Who-PP-1964.htmYou can't have a Mod doc with out mentioning those 3 bands Small faces and The Who 60s and the The Jam, were catalyst for the 79 Mod revival and a very important band for that generation of Mods including me.The Jam went out at the top before tuning into a hippie or heavy rock band like the other 2 bands!

    • @PAULLONDEN
      @PAULLONDEN 8 років тому +1

      delboy shepherd Personally never seen Daltrey with those two tone (black & white) loafers,topped off with white socks.....;'] Maybe post evidence on Facebook ? 60's Who were immaculately cool...

      As you can see by the link he did, The Who are my fav 60s band but were made into Mods by Pete Meaden, Small faces were already Mods,already posted some on FB great pixs,. By the way every Mod I knew in 70s and 80s had white socks on!

      delboy shepherd Ok..thanks....stand corrected...The Pete Meaden story is a tragic one though. Stunning music.Still got my old sixties 45's.It's all on the hard drive now ofcourse.

      couldnt disagree more..Weller doesnt get anywhere near the worldwide recognition he deserves..largely due to his "Englishness" which the U.S. never really got..i think is every bit as important as Bowie..and his enormous back catelogue will bear that out..believe me when Weller pops his clogs the Charts will be chocablock with Weller.
