- It's the Math 144 class you've all been waiting for! This one covers all the problem styles that usually come up in the non-calculator section of the GED test. Don't be the student who studies all the wrong things. Check out the video, chock full of GED example problems, worked by Kate and the Math 144 students. Then head on over to the Crash Course to practice these types of problems for yourself.
I wanted to THANK YOU!!!! I passed my Math test today thanks to you. What you said at the beginning of each problem, I asked myself what do they want me to do or find. Thank you so much!
AHHHHH!!! Congratulations and you are very welcome. Glad I got my voice stuck in your head for test day, that was the goal. Hahaha
Really enjoy your interactive format. Good job. Your love and devotion to math and teaching is apparent.
Glad you enjoy it!
Thank God for this video I think I've learned more in thirty minutes watching your video than my actual ged cless lol thank you
I am so so so glad you found it helpful!
@@LightandSaltLearning when is your next class
Very very helpful. I always thought I knew this but not. Now I know.
SO glad you found the video useful!
Yes Kate, thanks!!! Saving it, as I have to cook 1st, but so watching it!!!
Yay! Thank you!
@@LightandSaltLearning thanks again! It did help me to remember some basic things.
@@laflaca80 Wonderful!
@@LightandSaltLearning 🥰🙃
Thank you. Helped me a lot.
For me Kaplan worked well in combination with Princeton .
Glad the video helped and also that those resources worked for you. I find they are not great resources for struggling students. You must have had a fairly strong math background beforehand. Did you already take your test or are you still studying?
@@LightandSaltLearning . I took my maths test and I sincerely want to thank you for your great videos that gave me confidence. I scored 171. God bless you and your family.
Great Videos .. to you have a video or videos for the calculator questions ? Thanks
Yes, lots, actually. Almost all my vids and classes are on the calc questions and when a problem comes up that uses one, I talk about the buttons to use. But here's the lesson page from my website that specifically addresses just the calc www.lightandsaltlearning.org/0-crucial-ged-basics/using-the-ged-calculator
Hello 😊 Thank you so much for this. I would like to ask why is -1^4 equal to -1? I place it in my calculator aswell and it gives me -1, I would just like to know the steps because if I had to work this out without a calculator would it not be (-1)(-1)(-1)(-1)?.... (-1)(-1) gives you a positive 1, then it would be 1 (-1) which gives -1 then it would be -1(-1) which would be 1? or you could say (-1)(-1) gives you 1 and (-1)(-1) gives you 1 and 1x1 gives you 1.
Am I forgetting a rule here ?😊
GREAT QUESTION! And a common one. Even "math people" struggle with this. It has to do with the order of operations. Please watch these videos. If you are still confused afterwards, let me know. ua-cam.com/video/vWzF40_HoA8/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/2fcYbv694Tg/v-deo.html
@@LightandSaltLearning 😅 my word that made sense and I kind of feel silly now😐 I absolutely love maths and love learning it and I can't believe I didn't see that! 🤣 Thank you so much for clarifying! that really helped so much!
@@forgottensoul1319 Don't beat yourself up! This is a HUGE issue for so many students. It's because they don't see negating as an operation. To them -1 is simply negative one and nothing else. I'm so glad you're enjoying the learning process. That makes a huge difference! Happy learning!
Hi, I'm trying to find the paper version in the Teacher's Toolkit. I can't seem to find it. Thank you!
Printable review packet or the slideshow?
Whichever corresponds with the problems. I've found a non calculator review packet but those problems don't correspond with the problems in the video. I hope that makes sense. 😀@@LightandSaltLearning
@@dianapeebles9184 Emailed you!
Hey Ma'am , Do they provide any sheet to solve these decimal non calc questions ?
Do they provide sheet for solving variable questions ?
They provide a whiteboard, either online or a physical whiteboard depending if you test online or in person. You can do your scratch work on that. If you are meaning the formula sheet, however, none of the problems we did involve "formulas", so you won't find any clues there even though, technically, you will have access to the formula sheet.
Thank you so much Miss
You are so very welcome!
BRAVO excellent it helped.
Yay! I am so glad. Happy learning!
Now there are 7 questions in the non -calculator section
If you got 7, it means they were testing two new questions on you. No telling which two they were, but they don't affect your score.
Kate❤️
Yes?
I passed my math exam! Coffe on me next month! Thanks❤️
Was I meant to use Kaplan book?
You can, if that's helpful for you. We usually find that the Kaplan can cover a lot of material. This can get confusing. Our material focuses on the math you need for your GED® math test.
Hi how I can join your class
Thank you for your question, but Kate does not offer tutoring. Good News! You have access to the entire free online math course at www.lightandsaltlearning.org. We also encourage you to join our FB student support group. It is an active group with over 20k members and a great place to get insight into the GED® subjects. You can ask questions, talk to volunteer tutors, and discuss subjects with other students. facebook.com/groups/lightandsaltlearning
but we get timed on the g.e.d. test we not gone have the time to break it all the way down like this. I like the way she teaching but we getting timed
Absolutely, you will be timed so if you had to work through every problem like this, it would definitely slow you down. I have hundreds of videos (the Virtual Class Videos and the example problem videos) that teach one skill at a time and give you a ton of practice ao you can get really fast at a specific topic.
But this series of videos, the Math 144 review series, is designed a little differently. I have two goals with these. 1) To practice identifying which type of problem you are facing and review when to do what. 2) To further build your problem solving skills so that, when you are faced with something you never studied or that you've totally forgotten, you have a toolbox of skills to help you figure it out, or at least narrow down your choices.
When you do take your test, here is a great time management strategy to use so that you do not run out of time.
For each problem read it and detwrmine if it is 1) a problem you think you know how to work, 2) a problem you think you might be able to figure out with some time and thought, or 3) one where you have no idea what the heck they are talking about and no idea how to even go about trying to figure it out.
If it's 1) you think you know this, just work the problem.
If it's 2) something you are going to need to use some time and longer problem solving akills to figure out, guess using your estimation skills, FLAG IT, and come back to it at the end of your test so that you aren't raising your anxiety levels struggling with super challenging problems right away.
If it's 3, you simply have no idea what they are talking about, just guess and move on. It isn't the end of the world. You only need about half right to pass.
Does that make sense?
.
i hate school
That's understandable. School can be hard. Don't quit! You can do it!
