Very nice, I've been looking into mokume gane for a while, even tried it a few times - failure every time. Do you make your own mokume gane material? If so I'd be very interested in seeing your process.
Yes I make it myself. In different ways. Semi-finished products that I sell in my shop are produced on large sinter presses. I weld individual pieces in the fire. I have instructions for beginners here on UA-cam: ua-cam.com/play/PLhm0YW70I3mgkDeYIRn0_xRl4yR-Y2_mr.html Is in German and not quite finished but should give a good insight.
@@mokumegane Thank you. My German is quite rusty but I'll try to follow. I don't have unfortunately any industrial equipment, only small hand tools... the most advanced piece of equipment is a hand-cranked roller press. :) It's still more than what Japanese metalsmiths had a few centuries ago, so it should be doable.
@@stamasd8500 It works a little better with the automatic generator of subtitles. They're not perfect yet and you have to think a lot about them. But they help a little. Yes, you don't actually need much to make Mokume Gane. It is important to work cleanly when welding and preparing for it.
Jeder fängt mal klein an.
@@mokumegane Even if you can separate and reuse the chips (more work, more energy consumed) I would consider the amount of work and energy put into making the layered plate substantial and using more than absolutely necessary only adds to customer price. Still, this can be done without all the chipping. Make a small mokume gane bar, torque it, then use a chisel to make a hole and shape it on the ring mandrel.
@@torstenneuer1560 I see what you mean. In series production, it is essential to be able to produce a disc more efficiently from sheet metal. The chips and mold costs are irrelevant. My time is the expensive part. I make these discs for trainees. It is also important that each piece is the same size and weight. That's what customers expect.
Awesome job!! You could have made a more detailed picture of the finished work, such a piece of artwork deserves to be watched more closely.
Hola buenas noches amo tu arte!!!

What a waste of material. 😥
Not at all. We can separate and reuse it.
