Everything Rivian does is right up my alley. Faithfully renovating a historical landmark, partnering with a local artist, giving space to a local woman-owned business, and then incorporating other local communities to use your space. Love it. Love it. Love it.
A community with 30,000 cars… Right now it’s a niche. As a shareholder I only care that the company doesn’t file bankruptcy in the next six months before cash runs out. When we get to 1 million sold we can have a “community”. Wasteful expenditures like this just puts us on track to be the next Fisker 2.0.
@@AdamFrugoli Yeah, this seems excessive, considering Rivian is on the brink of bankruptcy. But at least the work is done and they restored a great building. I guess they are very optimistic about their future.
Any idea why it is called a box office? Could it be because seating was called boxes and it’s the office that sold tickets to boxes? I’ve heard some people refer to it as ticket booth.
@@johnpoldo8817 there are two sources for why it’s called box office; in Shakespeare’s Globe Theater, the collection of money for admission was collected in a money box which was at the room at front of the theater and later, like your speculation, the front room of the theater is where they collected payment for the theater boxes in London theaters in the 1700s
@@johnpoldo8817 "The term box office was being widely used from at least 1786, deriving from the office from which theatre boxes were being sold; this is the derivation favoured by the Oxford English Dictionary. This is such a detailed video . The repurposed sails from sail boats as curtain’s. The hidden well under the stage . Wow . Great work Jordan and Out of Spec.
1) Excellent creative camera work Jordan! 2) It's beyond exciting as well as inspiring to see an OEM deeply investing in community, operating in true alignment with their words/ethos.
Amazing video. Amazing space. When I hopefully have an R2 and R3 in my garage I'll be happy to know it helps support these types of projects. Great job Jordan as usual.
hey! that's me at 15:26 It's an amazing space and I love that Rivian is using a historic site for their showrooms vs leveling the landscape and waisting money on something bland.
As an electric vehicle owner who would never return to petrol or diesel vehicles having had bad experiences with them, a nice right hand drive Rivian would be lovely!!
I love architecture even more than cars, so this is awesome. New, energy efficient buildings are great, but we need people restoring our old buildings too.
Great overview, Jordan. Thanks for sharing. It's funny how you said there's little need for security, as you noted how many items you'd love to "repurpose" in your own home. 😊
I do miss Compass Yellow. It was our second choice behind Forest Green. We were waiting for our specified config to be built when we got Shop access, and if a "perfect but Compass Yellow" had shown up, we absolutely would have gotten it. With Forest Edge interior (they stopped allowing Forest Edge with Compass Yellow a few months before they completely ended Compass Yellow,) and the "Bright" 20" wheels (another discontinued option.)
I wonder if they’ll do the same thing to a theater in Normal, even with all the commerce they’ve brought to that town it would be cool to see them really dig in there
All those complaining about wasteful spending need to go out and become more active in their communities. Donate your time, expertise or a few dollars to a local cause
Very true. Also people don’t realize that these spaces are an awesome way for the Rivian owners and enthusiasts to come together for various events and also for others to check out the vehicles up close. Right on brand while also supporting local community.
also there are significant tax credits and funding available for preserving and restoring historic and significant buildings especially when they can continue to contribute towards the tax base
An old theater near me has been split up the way that theater had been. Not just split in two width-wide, but the mezzanine/balcony was also split off to be its own separate theater. Thankfully, the main theater has been returned to full size, but the mezzanine is still its own separate room.
Impressive place. However, I don’t understand why it needed to exist at this point in time, when massive regions still don’t actually have access to purchase Rivian products (meaning less sales, less volume for the company). I live in Quebec, where folks have placed reservations for the R1S or R1T 3 years ago. And we are still waiting to be allowed to buy the damn vehicles today. How is it that VINFAST, of all brands, has massively better presence here than Rivian? Makes no sense.
I lived in Newport Beach for 8 years and between Huntington, Newport and Laguna that area of the OC really is a paradise. I'm glad that the theater has been beautifully restored but it seems to me that Rivian is in no financial shape to pour millions of dollars into restoration projects. I do believe Rivian will survive, but it still doesn't make financial sense. Gr8 vid as usual. 🛻🇺🇸 🔌⚡
Imagine all companies helping rebuild america. Amazon, Apple etc with their trillions of dollars ( millions times million of dollars ), such a paradise....
The thing is, Rivian doesnt have any money and isn't making any money. It's like the teenager working at McDonalds that got his first credit card and it has a $50,000 limit on it. Unless they can actually make a vehicle with some profit margin, it is just a matter of time before the subsidies, credit and Amazon inputs dry up.
That looks awesome; I just hope it actually makes money for them and not contributing to the billions of losses. Yes, I miss Compass Yellow, my favorite of the bunch.
Did anyone notice the graphics on the movie screen? This, I think, is how the screens in the R1 refresh and R2, R3 will look like - i.e. Unreal Engine software. Not sure I’m a fan vs. the screen graphics in the original R1s. I prefer the original vehicle renderings and animations which have a more realistic look, in my opinion. This refresh looks too cartoonish, or painting-like, I don’t know. Guess we’ll get used to it.
That is what I was thinking. If they partner and organize attractive events, Orange County is full of people who would attend and be receptive to this soft sell messaging.
WOW! For a company that only two quarters of cash left before running out of money, not sure this seems necessary…. As a Rivian Shareholder I’m really disappointed…..😢
How was Rivian able to justify the expense for renovations to investors? Clearly this theater was not needed to sell trucks. If finances get difficult, should they sell theater? Many EV lovers like me have no use for a truck. Would Rivian ever offer a sedan or hatchback?
A community that brings people together also needs to make money so that it does not cease operations. Rivian is still losing a ton of money. Investors give money to get a return on their investment.
Jordan-your hosting is sharp and informative, but your camerawork is poor. This is not the Normandy landing scene in Saving Private Ryan, and swinging the camera left, right, and then left again to show the viewer the space is horribly triggering to those of us who are prone to motion sickness 🤢. Smooth, deliberate motions to move the camera, or (better still) edits to show different views, will keep the viewer’s perspective stabilized. I know nothing about UA-cam but I imagine there is a financial incentive to keep the viewer watching all the way through-I had to hit the eject button about 2/3 of the way. I know I am not the only one who feels this way. Please have some sensitivity in the camera technique.

Gotta spend money to make money. Just gotta be smart with how you spend it. Neo has a similar concept in China. Don't know how it is going for them.
