- Finally broke down and bought an ultralight combo. Went with the Okuma Celilo rod and Shimano Sienna Reel. Went out to the river and ended up doing better than expected! Definitely looking forward to more fishing with this setup.

I use ultralight for nearly everything, including some very large fish. It's fun, and it's sporting, something that's left out of most fishing today. On UA-cam, it's almost always heavy rods and twenty to forty pound test line. Often stronger. The fish are horsed in and stand no chance. The fishermen need no skill. They're too concerned with impressive videos and potential money than with sportsmanship.
What impresses me is the skill it takes to catch huge fish on ultralight tackle, and very light line. The record fish on two pound test is just over one hundred pounds. The record on four pound test is over five hundred pounds. And when tested, the actual test of the line was about three and a half pounds.
I've never caught anything that large because I don't live anywhere close to saltwater, but I have caught thrity-five pound fish on two pound test and an ultralight rod and reel. To me, the interesting thing about such light gear is that you can catch very large fish with it, if you're skilled enough, but however skilled you are, even a very small fish can be a challenge because it's very easy to make a mistake, and any mistake means a broken line.
I've caught a thirty five pound fish on two pound test, and a lot of fish from fifteen to twenty-five pounds on that same test, but I've also a bunch of fish on four pound test that weighed no more than three or four pounds. Mistakes.
Anyway, enjoy your ultralight gear and challenge yourself to catch large fish with it. Beating your personal best with ultralight gear can be addictive, whether youy're catch bluegill, bass, catfish, carp, trout, or whatever.
I've used ultra light to catch 20+ lb carp. In the lake I fish in there is many in the 30-40lb range
Reminds me of my 4 pound line pulling a 9.2 pound cat. That was the best fight I ever had. I had him near the bank about 3 times till he tired out. I certainly let him go, he earned it lol
Idk bout this chief unless your drag is screaming 35pound on 2lb test is a little far fetched. You say horsed in on heavy line but you’re making the fish work way to hard to the point of exhaustion this is why they die from catch and release. I rather catch a bass on a 7’4” medium heavy 55lb brain drag him in put him back and watch him swim away so I know someone els will catch him. That’s the sport it’s not making a fish tire themselves out to death. So you keep throwing your ultralight gear killing fish and guys who throw proper equipment will keep the sport alive tight lines dude
Still growing for you buddy! ULTRALIGHT SQUAD 💪🏽 can’t wait to get back out this year and do more ultralight content. Let’s do an ultralight 1v1 bass tourney this year!
You know I'm down!
Not joking here, I have the red and black version of that same reel, but with the 5ft 2piece UL of that same rod. Wasn't intending to, but ended up with a 10lb Steelhead in a local river. Reel locked up and pole went to max bend instantly.......and IT DID NOT BREAK!! Was able to walk it to shore. Rod really impressed me
I have the exact same combo. I love it. Trying to catch some big trout with it this winter.
Right on! I'll be chasing some Browns this weekend with it!

Respect to a fellow Michigan Man. Go Blue!
I love the celilo I have the 9'6" heavy version for salmon/steelhead
9'6"???
Ocean???
I just order a 6’ ultralite Celilo and an okuma stratus. I can’t wait for them to come in
Best budget ultralight rod combo. If you want a better reel I recommend pfleuger president or shimano sahara or sedona. Shorter rods 7 foot or less if u r fishing from the bank. On the shorter end if fishing in creeks with a lot of overhang. If fishing from boat or kayak at least 7ft is better imo for casting distance and more room to bend in rod to absorb jumps and head shake from bass.
I just ordered the 8' celilo and the Sienna 1000! Looking forward to this BIG TIME!
I just bought this rod, but 8.6". Thanks for the video to help me plan out my 1st adventure with the new gear
How do you like the rod in 8’6? I just bought one
Thinking about buying one as well. Let us know what you think of an UL that long
I love trout fishing with my ultralight okuma
I loved my Celilo, it was sensitive and durable... unfortunately, I ran over it and am shopping for a new rod, but considering the Celilo again.
I love my Okuma Celilo. I have the ultralight 6' 6" paired with a Quantum Throttle TH10 spinning reel.
I really like mine too. Such a good deal!
G ZAK I’d like to buy a “vintage” Shakespeare Sigma Series 2200 025 and pair it with a nice rod! Probably 4# test line. What do you suggest!
I was going to buy the quantum but in the th5 I thought the th10 looked a bit over kill but I got the same reel as him and it's a bit overkill too I want to get a matching okuma reel for it eventually
My UL setup is okuma celilo 8foot paired with abu garcia supermax 30 and it works great
My first Celilo arrived in 4 pieces. Infuriating part about it was that the smallest package a 2 pc 6’ rod can fit is 3’ long…this package measured 30” and was undamaged, along with the clear plastic bag it was sealed in…in what world is it acceptable to break a rod (or any other product) to make it fit a too-small box? Happy ending, though…the replacement arrived intact and I’ve been loving it since! Subbed…Stay Safe!
Just ordered the 6.6 , should be hear tomorrow. Thanks for the video😀
How are u liking it? I just ordered the same rod. I’m super excited!!!
@@arturomoreno4911 it’s been a busy year. I used it from my kayak caught a few trout using a bobber last year.
Good video just bought one and am looking forward to it coming in
Dude I legit just bought the same set up 5'6 okuma, with the 1000fe Sienna
Late reply but how is the setup doing ?
Hi thank you for sharing this video i am a okuma lover and i use this rods and i enjoy the performance
I want to try okuma because I’m a Scott Martin fan boy lol
Very nice ultralight combo. smallmouth on that setup looked like fun.
Looks like a good setup, glad you finally got it. I challenge you to an Ultralight Kayak DUEL!!!
Are you sure you really wanna challenge the rock bass whisperer to an ultralight battle? You're going DOWN!
Classic combo
GO BLUE!!!
Since you cast right handed, try reeling with your left hand. Should be able to swap handle side on that reel! Much more efficient.
I totally agree with you, but my brain doesn't like it that way, haha. I've tried to switch in the past, but I feel so much more comfortable just doing it all right handed.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for replying back. I have a bait caster that reels on the right side, and it doesn't bother me, but all my spinning reels HAVE to be on the left! I love ultra light gear myself, I have and use other gear but I always feel at home with the ultra light. Thanks again.
I just ordered the celilo 7’6’’ and the okuma epxt-40 reel
GO BLUE! NIce setup
I got the 4’6 celilo with the kastking summer 2000
just ordered the celilo and the okuma ceymar with 6lb flouro for trout
I love my okuma and GO BLUE!! 💛💙〽️
i love these videos he should have more subscribers
Go Blue!
I’m thinking about getting one of these
Nice bro !
Great video, keep it up👍👍
Perfect🎣👌
I have the Shimano 1000 it's a great reel
Muy bueno!!!!!! Saludos. Argentina Buenos Aires
You said that the ultralight setup was pretty affordable. I’d be interested to know how much you have for the rod and reel.
At the time I bought them the reel was $30 and the rod was $25. So about $55 for the combo.
Thanks for the reply. I just ordered the rod and a different reel on amazon. Went 5’6” thought. The reel I found was a small abu Garcia I think. Spent about $43. I am looking forward to the setup though
@@JacobawSnow can you send me a link to the rod you bought cause i literally just broke my ultralight and i barely got it yesterday😪
I also hate this crooked state of Mich. Whitmer is goin down. sweet vid
Caught a 28 in snook on the 6’6 UL I had to cpr the snook for 30 minutes before I let it go lol
I bet that was one heck of a fight!
Whats the test weight for lures in grams ? I mean the model that you are using.
Nice video! I'm shopping for another Ultra Light Rod as I type this. Your video was very helpful. Looks like this rod has good action. Have you tried casting small crankbaits with it yet?
I haven't tried that yet. Most of our water is super weedy so I don't use crankbaits very often. May have to give it a try on some of the rocky rivers around here.
@@FishOClockSomewhere gotcha. Please let me know if you do. :) I'm not far from where you shot this video actually. I fish Montcalm, Kent, and Ionia counties all the time.
I bought the 5’6” rod. I wanted the 6” for some reason but I guess ultra lite means smaller rod to me. 😂
I did the same picked mine up today been looking at it for ever me and this dude got the same reel I thought that's kinda funny
Is this rod still holding up?
Yep! Just used it a few weeks ago to catch trout and it was great!
I'm still trying to learn how to fish so would this setup be good for a beginner? I don't want to drop tons of money on a rod and reel combo so the price of this combo is very desirable! I will be trout fishing if that helps answer the question!
Great for a beginner but if you want a even more value for your dollar cant beat the 7' shakespear micro series light action rod combo at walmart rod line and reel for like 30 bucks cant go wrong man
@@209chevymon thank you for the feedback! I am either looking at this setup but somebody is giving me a hand me down light action reel and I might end up going with the 2500. Either way the Sienna is looking like the way to go!
@@chodeyboi4754 hell ya if someone's giving you it go for it i mean after all its for starting out good luck man
It'll suit your needs well! I've used it for smaller brown trout and it worked just fine! I've also caught some decent bass on it and it handled that like a champ too.
@@FishOClockSomewhere thank you for the response! I will most likely order this setup in the near future. I'm getting a light action rod from a friend so I need to set that one up first so my lil bro can have something to use to learn how to fish haha
Heys Hows the reel, holding up? Is,the reel worth its cost?.
All good so far! I'd say it's worth the cost. I have a Daiwa RG AB on my ned rig rod and I'd highly recommend that reel too, although it's a bit more expensive
How long was this rod
Good video I’m planning on wade fishing a lot this summer do you know if they make a one peace ultralight and how was the sensitivity
Looks like they make a one piece in the Celilo model, but it's only 4'6". Not sure if they have longer ones in a different model though. I've been happy with the sensitivity, but I've mostly fished moving baits with it.
what size of rod youve got? what can you say about the 8' 6" UL ?
Too long
That's ridiculous
What length of rod is that?
6 foot
Goooooo Blue!!! I hate football
do you use a leader
Haven't really found a need to with the ultralight. If I was going after trout in clearer water I may consider it, but for panfish and bass I've had good luck without.
@@FishOClockSomewhere i see.. may i know what's the poundage of your main line ?
4lb
I am actually looking for a new UL setup. I think im gonna go with the kastking calamus. Very good review and u boxing! Great video bro. I subbed your channel. Check me back if you can, tight lines brother!!!
God Bless everyone reading this and everyone you know.
Wet your hands please you are driving me crazy. Those poor fish. Otherwise awesome video and much love!
No need to with bass
Go Blue!
What length is that rod?
6 foot!
