My dad used to rent this for me every time I was sick. Then he would take the couch cushions, and make a big bed for me on the floor. He would get blankets and pillows, and saltines and ginger ale, and he would lay there with me and watch this with me all day long. He died when I was just 11. I miss him so much. He was a saint. Miss you daddy- Wish you were watching with me now!

I remember watching this on TV when I was 10 years old. My brother, sister and I had waited forever for it to come on, and when it did we were all down with the mumps! My poor mother. Nonetheless, she propped us all up on the couch with pillows and lemon juice with honey for our throats, and we watched it through to the end, enchanted. I’m 73 years old now, and it’s deeply moving to see this again and remember the time it recalls.

I heard in an interview that when they did this story as a play, the director had instructed the orchestra to clap during that scene when Peter was pleading with us to clap and not let Tink die. Much to his surprise, this was not even necessary.....the audience was so moved, they applauded themselves to bring her back to life. A standing ovation. And even though I am now grown up at 37 and I can recite this movie by heart, I still clap for Tink too.....every single time. I believe in fairies. This is BY FAR the best version of Peter Pan though. I love all the versions, but NO ONE can match Cyril Ritchard as Captain Hook. I dare them to name a better version. lol

Wow. This is so sweet. If you're of my generation you grew up with a handful of seasonal television events that we kids looked forward to in a way that even young adults now are too young to have experienced. "Peter Pan", "Cinderella" (for kids my age it was Leslie Ann Warren, not Julie Andrews), "The Wizard of Oz", and all the Christmas animated specials were fresh and new. We knew months in advance exactly what night they'd be shown and I'd start to get anxious a couple of days before each one. The feeling that these shows were something extra special was only intensified because they were like holidays. They happen when they happen. If you missed 'em it was kinda heartbreaking. Not another chance to see them for a whole year! And then, about two-thirds of the way through I'd realize that it was almost over and then . . . it was back to real life in the 60s with my 3 smelly brothers.

I've loved Mary Martin as Peter Pan when I was a little kid we had an old VHS tape and we had old tape cassette of Peter Pan original soundtrack with Mary Martin and Broadway Cast. And I've seen Cathy Rigby as Peter Pan in person twice that we have photobook of original Cathy Rigby and Broadway Cast.

I enjoyed this as a kid so much! When I had kids, it was shown on tv again and the kids and I gathered in my bedroom to watch it! All of us were on my bed except for Joshua, who was small, and completely fascinated by this wonderful rendition of Peter Pan. When Tinkerbell said to clap your hands so I’ll get well, Joshua clapped his hands in childlike faith, so the rest of us joined in. That was a special time.

I did too, but it was so sweet. My Cousins and I would Play House and The Fellows would pretend to be executives and lawyers coming home discussing the "Day" that they had and we the Wives would prepare "Cocktails" ie Ginger Ale and we would tell them about "our" day. The PTA Meeting, The Children, and what happened on the latest Episode of our Favorite Soap Opera. Then we would prepare dinner and ask "How Was Your Day Honey".

Cyril Ritchard makes Hook my favorite character in this version! He was just the perfect combination of fun and dastardly. My favorite scene was fetching out the doodle doo! Just that specific little part of the end. I really like all his scenes though. I also like how he didn't let his wardrobe malfunctions interfere with his performance. I did like the way Mary Martin played Peter Pan, but she was so good that Peter Pan came off as whiny and selfish. I think my favorite scene with her was "Oh My Mysterious Lady" when she was teasing Hook in the forest.

I'm in my mid-30s - this film was a big feature of my childhood and I've only just re-discovered it (thank you, UA-cam!)
For YEARS I've had memories of some kind of Peter Pan musical, little snippets of it have popped into my head from time to time ("to the ship, to the ship...", "animal, vegetable, or mineral?", every time something's been on fire my brain's gone "odds bods, hammer and tongs, I'm burning!!")... but I've only ever been able to recall the Disney animated version, and Hook. I thought I'd imagined this!!! Just the right UA-cam search managed to turn it up.
I can't believe how much I remember. Thank you so much for this upload. One day I'll show it to my kids!

I so well remember the FIRST broadcast of this, a few years earlier. But it was in b+W. This one was done so that the world could see it in color. In those days, you saw it, loved it, but then couldn't even dream of seeing it again for at least a year. They started showing it each Christmas. We had a new Zenith floor model TV and I learned how to hook it up to my reel-to-reel tape recorder. So I recorded the whole thing. Just the sound, but I could listen whenever I wanted! Flash forward to 2005: the stage revival with Cathy Rigby was the last time I went to the theater with my mother before she passed. This is an important part of my life. (Oh yes, I saw Sandy Duncan on Broadway as well).
