Nice Review Joe, but I gotta keep it real, they really went bare minimal with the changes. The fact is, Subaru WRX has zero direct competition and it has made them complacent. No where else are you going to get a brand new AWD manual 268hp family sedan for around $30k in 2019. That’s a fact. Even Saab’s last effort was based off Subaru’s blueprints. Are Mitsubishi, Ford, Mazda, and Nissan getting their heads out of their arses any time soon? A reborn Lancer Evolution, groundbreaking new Focus RS, competent reasonably priced mazdaspeed3/miata, or exciting redesigned Sentra/370Z in dealerships anywhere? Is Honda making a Civic Si AWD hatchback? Is Toyota finally putting the TRD and GRMN team to work on production 270hp performance AWD Corollas? This is why so many folks saw a messiah when Hyundai created the Veloster N from the minds of stolen BMW/Audi designers to easily take down the Volkswagon golf Gti. We must reward companies like Subaru, Honda, and Hyundai whenever they do push the envelopes for reliable affordable performance enthusiasts or else they will go the way of the dinosaur like Mitsubishi/Ford/Mazda.
Car shopping for a year, distilled to the WRX & Veloster N. I’m emotionally attached to the WRX but I can’t shake the feeling that the Veloster N has the fun factor...
Flight Hours I kinda look at it this way: you can add hundreds mods like a fun exhaust to a Subaru to get the pops, crackles, and turbo whistle. Maybe throw in a light suspension set up, change the steering feel, or add a short shifter to emulate a more nimble feel analogues to the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, Honda Civic Type R and Si kinda feel. You can’t add AWD to a Hyundai Veloster N.
umar well at first my anxiety was through the roof and I thought I couldn’t do it, I just watched a lot of videos and got a feel for my clutch. So it took like 4-5 days
I just bought a 2018 wrx today and first time driving manual.. so far I’m going through that phase of anxiety myself! Lol practice practice practice tho! 👍🏾
Just placed an order for one yesterday! I am super excited. Don't care what the next model's specs will be, what it looks like, and how soon it may get here. It's THIS body style that got me hooked. THIS is the car I fell in love with. It's going to be the hardest 8-12 weeks of my life.
It's almost not worth it tho since the base sti comes with them. If you get a premium wrx with the brembo brakes your looking at the same amount of cash as an sti. Edit: was curious and looked at the exact prices. It would be about 4 grand more for the bass sti over premium wrx with brembos. I think the sti is the better deal personally.
Hey Joe why do people hate on the CVT version, I'm thinking about getting one because I love the WRX but I have a family that would benefit more from having an automatic vs a manual
Same man, I really don't like push-to-start on any car. It's just something about turning that key first thing in the morning that says "Oh yeah, today's gonna be fun."
I watched another video on the 2020 WRX and heard that they took out rev hang, but the revs fall kinda slowly. My biggest complaint about my 2018 WRX is the rev hang when shifting into 2nd. It makes driving in traffic annoying when cars are coming up to your bumper and then have to slow down because of you. Good review Joe.
I like the leather inserts in the door panels . You had to buy the premium sport performance package with the recaro seats . This one has no Recaros but still gets leather inserts 💯💯
17 owner. Have had the car for exactly 3 years and just hit 34k even. The largest complaint about the vehicle is the god awful rev hang coming out of first gear. Im so used to it by now, but they need to tune that out. Waiting for the 2021 model to see what they have in store and might trade up. We'll see
Awesome review, i got my wife a 2019 WRX, she loves it. i only got to drive it once. The paddle shifters are fun, just a little lag. Its an awesome fun car. I put the spoiler and air foil package on it or her. It makes the WRX pop.
Did you notice how it doesn't pull smooth up to redline? That's the big secret nobody wants to talk about. It's just a brz after 4k rpm. Which you will have to void your warranty with Cobb stage 1 just to get it to pull smooth like it should have stock. I think Subaru does it on purpose.
Really love your reviews! I've always been a hot hatch driver (2 GTI's) and leased an elantra sport last year which I really love (VWs broke down constantly). My next car I would love an AWD car like a wrx with a manual with room for 2 car seats.
Thanks to your reviews! I bought a 19 WRX and i love it more and more everyday! There are tons of same Gens where i live and every subie wave feels more and more like your part of a big family no other car has. Keep up the great work!
I hate CVTs, but I have to admit that Subaru's got the best available take on it. Sure, Toyota has that first physical gear available with the Corolla, but to be able to switch between a six-speed and an 8-speed just by switching drive modes? That's something I haven't seen with any other manufacturer.
I got the 2019 Limited 6SPD in June. Never thought I would have so much fun driving. It's not the fastest in a straightline but when you hit a curve you feel like you're glued to the road. Amazing feeling
My buddy just picked up one of these 2020 wrx 2 weeks ago and honestly compared to any other manual. Even stage 2 and 3 clutches the wrx was the most annoying. It also just feels insanely cheap everywhere. Handles nice especially in rain taking corners at 90-100 but lacks in power on the straightaways. Wasn’t able to push past 125 on the road I was driving.
Only change I see from 2019, at least on the premium, is the door panels have the leather and red stitching. My door panels are black cloth, no stitching.
Those wheels ARE a nice combination of gunmetal gray and black. Also, those seats!! I love those seats! The nice dark gray, almost black, with the light gray in the middle? Looks fantastic. Also, another zonk for the passenger area in the back is that there are no air vents. I need air in the back!! Great video👌🏼🤘🏼

Don R I’m literally debating between this and the Accord 2.0T touring/sport as well. I just can’t make up my mind and the rental goes back Tuesday. The Accord seems to have better interior and tech but the WRX has AWD.
I Think Toyota Needs To Bring Back The Venza to make it more camry like & I think they need a full-size crossover to compete with Hyundai, Subaru & Kia
Great review brother! I actually really like this one! I would honestly buy this over an STI and put the money I save into mods 😁 That blue is gorgeous! Awesome video Joe! 🤙🏻🤙🏻
@@RaitisRides Absolutely brother! BTW I recently bought a slightly used 2018 Focus ST to be my daily driver! I bought a 2013 the first year they came out and I sold it and regretted it ever since! So I had been wanting to get the last model year. I had to drive 2 hours down to a Toyota dealer in Myrtle Beach but I finally found the right one! They included a 7 year 100k mile powertrain warranty at no extra charge! I gave it the exact treatment you did on your type RA. Paint correction, Expel PPF on the front bumper, side mirrors and hood, then Ceramic Pro over the whole car. I've also had a catted 3" inch downpipe and a full 3 inch exhaust system installed. Sounds awesome!! I am in love with this car and never selling it! I am so blessed to be able to drive this car every day and have a 2019 Mustang GT PP1 6 speed to drive on the weekends! We are on this Earth for such a short time and I am enjoying the fruits of my labor!! Thank you for continuing to be the hardest working man on UA-cam and bringing us such great content every day!!
I would suggest that you drive both before taking the decision. To me, the experience while driving the STI is worlds ahead. I had both cars and the STI is so much more fun even at low speed. The feeling that the car gives you while you drive it is something else. I cannot understand how Subaru killed the rumble in the WRX, for instance. If it's about speed get the Tesla, but if it's about driving the STI gave me the idea that a 911 was a car I would rather drive, but not many others.
Suneil Kumar personally I’ll take the si it has more potential and it looks 10x better inside and out also more efficient and it has more room and better handling and active dampers , for the price si for all year car wrx
Excellent review. This guy is a fantastic reviewer. I’m very very torn on whether to get the 6 speed or CVT. I’m not well seasoned in stick shift. But I don’t want to make the mistake of buying the CVT model if it’s boring
I've been considering a WRX on and off for years, but they kind of lost me when they dropped the hatchback. I've never been a fan of sedans. To me, the hatch was much better looking and was far more practical as a daily driver. At this point, I'll wait and see what the redesigned 2021 WRX has to offer. Hopefully they'll come to their senses and bring back the hatch with the redesign because that's the only way I'll ever buy one.
Whats the best year for WRX 2015-2020? And how do they hold up reliability wise if you do Bolt Ons and tune on 93? id like 300-350 awhp. is it worth to get like low miles like 10k 1 owner one?
I really wish they would offer the hatchback again. I really loved mine back in the day. I would happily buy one again, but the sedan just doesn't work for me.
One thing he said that's just wrong is the shifting. The stock tune is so bad, it will make you feel like you don't know how to drive stick. It's really unbelievable how bad it is. Just get yourself a Cobb accessport, it turns it from an awesome car to a perfect car. I just bought a 2019 and I'm glad I didn't wait for the 2020, it's literally identical.
I feel like the WRX and STI sell based off their extreme hype. I test drove a WRX back in 2016 and compared it to the Focus ST and my current MK7 GTI. Outside of a 5K RPM clutch dump from 0-60, the WRX didn’t feel any faster than the ST or GTI. The interior of the WRX was unrefined and suffered from terrible wind noise at highway speeds. The main deal breaker for me was the atrocious rev-hang the WRX has (You can hear it in the video). These cars are poorly tuned from the factory. Overall, I came away unimpressed and after watching this review I still don’t understand the hype. 🤷♂️
To each his own. I have a mk7 GTI with a full tbe and JB4 but the stock WRX was more enjoyable when I had it and handled corners and rain more nicely. Hated the shifter and rev hang though, in addition to the long clutch. Sold it and got the STI recently. Now that's a different animal. GREAT driving experience. Transmission is perfect, clutch is short and and engine rumbles like a champ. Also with the added LSDs car handles corners with much ease that it gets scary at times because you are at reckless speeds. Also I test drove the ST but thought it was horrible.
Hey Ford.....people still buy sedans. You guys blew it eliminating the Focus and Fiesta ST models. Europe geta all the cool hot hatches. Thx Subaru for giving us a car we want.
Eric you are so right. Friend of mine has the Ford Fusion Sport. Very fast comfortable cruise missile. Not like the Focus RS but nice sedan. Ford will regret there move when fuel is again up in price.
I agree I see tons of Focus ST around town. But they have to follow the masses for sales and they like anything high off the ground. If anything these new wave of sedans have gotten lower, more driver-focused. A good chunk of people could care less
Imagine paying so much more for a 2020 when a 2015 premium is the same damn thing lol. Should I buy the new one or get a used one.🤔. Will buy new when they finally change the entire WRX look.
I still like the WRX, in this color, or midnight blue, if it still is available. I am not a tuner much, so I don't really plan to modify it if I got one. I would get the manual for reliability and longevity, and the performance package and probably a lot of the accessories, particularly weather mats, trunk tray and rear seatback protectors if available. And would tint the windows. The STi is nice, but I don't need all that, and the ele tric steering is more reliable. The Limited trim would probably be nice with all it has, but if this doesn't have the top of the line stereo, it would be great if the still have the optional Rockford Fosgate addons, my favorite stereo company, because it still has a CD Player! And Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay, USB and auxiliary audio input in the console box. Not having it in the front is fine, but wireless charging would be nice, if available. The seats are nice for cloth, so I could go without leather, the rear USB, and the left seatback pocket for what this already has. Overall, it has all the goodies and power I would want and need. I just would have to get used to driving a stick, but would not have to worry about the durability of the CVT, or blowing the head gaskets much since it does not have the extra boost of the STi, aftermarket hop ups, or me intending to thrash it. The only other caveat for the AWD performance e is the stigma of having to replace all the tires is one hies bad, and added expense. To me, this is great as is withbthe performance package for what it has, as I described, though I think a blue 2020 Honda Civic Si would be a better bang for the buck, but the WRX has a CD player in dash, and the auxiliary audio input jack. So, to me, I would consider this if I really wanted the extra power and AWD. Fir Subaru fans that is not aching for an STi, I think as I mentioned, this would be perfect.
Nice video. But what is your source for 2021 wrx? I believe its only rumors and considering there is not even a test mule spotted yet, new Wrx will be earliest late 2021 as a 2022 model.
4:50 that was such a funny example of salesmanship. The exact moment you mentioned a negative (incandescent turn signals) you *immediately* fumbled through a completely unrelated positive, the all wheel drive system.
WRX is by far the best value. I paid 16K after trade in for my 2018 premium CVT brand new so Not bad at all. Not to mention the car is worth like 24k right now so I have tons of equity if I did want to trade for a newer WRX or a different make or model entirely
As always great review! Test drove a WRX last month and I must say I had a smile on my face the whole time. Only thing holding me back on buying one now is the upcoming redesign. Tokyo Motor show later this month will have the new Levorg. So we will get an idea of what the front will look like on the new WRX.
Cars are like mobile phones now, year by year new version, few updates and upgrades are being released and still same 4 wheels yet love this car❤️🚗 blue subie.
wooo nice! I wonder how this compares to my 2018 base :)!! lol Joe i didnt realize we had back seats. But i agree my passengers are always complaining about the missing USB in the back
Good vehicle but not great, you hit a lot of zonks I don’t like about the wrx for that price point in this trim. Test drove one but one thing I could not get past was the ridiculous rev hang from 1st to 2nd. Also wouldn’t be interested right off the bat in a Cobb access port since I’d like to keep the warranty first. I’ll wait to see what the 21’ offers.
hey Joe, first just wanted to say I love your content and reviews keep up the good work. second I am looking to buy my first WRX ever. do you think it's worth it for me to jump on the 2020 now or wait for the 2021 model?
Advice- if you are not in the market for a new car, do not test drive one! Or you will end up with another car in your garage 😂 thanks Joe. Love my 2021 wrx
I'm here watching your videos and love the passion you have for subarus just like I have and then I notice why haven't I subscribed to you yet lol. Love the videos man !!

No but they’re out making even more fun and practical SUVs and crossovers and everything in between that came into existence recently.

It should be interesting to see how it turns out.
Whats the best year for WRX 2015-2020? And how do they hold up reliability wise if you do Bolt Ons and tune on 93? id like 300-350 awhp. is it worth to get like low miles like 10k 1 owner one?
No go 15 - 16
I really wish they would offer the hatchback again.
I have a '13 hatch. Love it. Still waiting for Subaru to bring it back.
They won't. They didn't sell enough to keep them in production.
How is the rev hang on the 2020? It is fix?
Best car for $28,000 WRX premium 💯💯💯💯
Great review Joe! Your the go to guy for WRX reviews. You obviously know this vehicle well..
Doesnt the new FA engine have equal length headers? No more boxer rumble.
This 100% true but you will het a distinctive flat-4 sound.
It’d be interesting to see your opinion on the WRX CVT.
Matt Nel I totally am with you. As soon as I can track one down I am all over it! 👍🏻
It sucks
Imagine paying so much more for a 2020 when a 2015 premium is the same damn thing lol. Should I buy the new one or get a used one.🤔. Will buy new when they finally change the entire WRX look.
The LastSamurai I would wait for the all new 2021 model which will probably come out late next year.
The 2015 STI Launch Edition comes with fog lamps, I have them
I still like the WRX, in this color, or midnight blue, if it still is available.
I have a grey pearl 2019 Wrx and the eyesight has been standard on the CVT before.
Thanks for the info.
I would like to see Subaru bring the LSD back to the WRX as a standard feature. Also, tweak the ECU to reduce rev hang.
Do I gotta worry about the engine blowing up, kinda seems to be the problem on the wrx
Good luck and good car. But I have and preferred a sti.
I just bought a 2017 wrx premium. I'll keep it a few years. See how the new sti holds up. Let others test it first
Not at all because I am not here to sell you anything.
Love it... but would still buy an sti.
Ps: love your vids and have a good day!!
Dave Does Animation thanks Dave! I would go STI all day long!

Would love to see them up the torque to get off the line much faster and 400HP on the next model to compete with fire breathing BMW 340 M.
Great review! I can’t wait to own one, I’m aiming to get one by the end of this year
Thanks Jose! You will love it!
i got the 2020 series white with some sti upgrades under it with borla catback and hybird blowoff
WRX is by far the best value. I paid 16K after trade in for my 2018 premium CVT brand new so Not bad at all. Not to mention the car is worth like 24k right now so I have tons of equity if I did want to trade for a newer WRX or a different make or model entirely
Thanks for sharing your input and perspective on this one! I appreciate you watching!
Did they fix the rev hang on the 20s?
Yes a little.
They fix the transmission and clutch issues yet?
As always great review! Test drove a WRX last month and I must say I had a smile on my face the whole time. Only thing holding me back on buying one now is the upcoming redesign. Tokyo Motor show later this month will have the new Levorg. So we will get an idea of what the front will look like on the new WRX.
Roddy Perry thanks for the heads up, I’m really excited for it and for them to announce the power figures for the fa24 in the sti
Cars are like mobile phones now, year by year new version, few updates and upgrades are being released and still same 4 wheels yet love this car❤️🚗 blue subie.
Wow never really looked into subies before. This is definitely a contender for my next car! Beautiful vehicle hands down
You did great. But the video was a little sad. I could feel you were disappointed but because of your love for that car you didn’t want to say it
wooo nice! I wonder how this compares to my 2018 base :)!! lol Joe i didnt realize we had back seats. But i agree my passengers are always complaining about the missing USB in the back
What's everyone doing for snow driving? Ditching the stock summer tires and going for all seasons or dedicated winters and summers ?
Most have dedicated snow tires.
Way to respect that 1000 mile break in time...
So you think if someone test drives the car they are staying under 5,000 RPM? LOL
hey Joe, first just wanted to say I love your content and reviews keep up the good work. second I am looking to buy my first WRX ever. do you think it's worth it for me to jump on the 2020 now or wait for the 2021 model?
I think there is no better time than now. We really don't know much yet about the new WRX yet. Plus I would ever buy the first year.
PS Thanks for your awesome support and compliments!
On the 2020 performance package dose it also come with the Billstien shocks
Thank you and awesome vdo. So there is no major changed on 2020 beside just get more option on break system.
Awesome video!!
Thanks brother! I knew you would like this one! Tell your sister I said hello!
@@RaitisRides Wait what??? 😐😐
Advice- if you are not in the market for a new car, do not test drive one! Or you will end up with another car in your garage 😂 thanks Joe. Love my 2021 wrx
Still no rear LSD? 09' last to have it I believe.
Will you be making a video on the 2020 Subaru BRZ models?
I'm here watching your videos and love the passion you have for subarus just like I have and then I notice why haven't I subscribed to you yet lol. Love the videos man !!
The 2020 WRX is supposed to have an updated rear differential R167. Is anyone aware of this? I got my 2020 WRX a week ago and love it. My first Subaru.
Love the new videos!! Keep em coming 👍👍
Thank you my friend! I have more to come.
Great video as always Sr. Thank you very mucho.
You are so very welcome Israel!
20min to say that the news are the optional rims and brakes
Why does the wrx sound louder than the sti
Because is a different engine
Coming from a 2019 WRX... Literally nothing has changed. Better luck next year, Subaru.
Is there still bad shifter slop in 1st and 2nd??
I heard they fixed the rev hang for the 2020 model. did they?
It sure seems like it
Can you make a review of the Subaru levorg please?...You are the best keep up the great work!
They don't sell it in the USA! I really appreciate your support and kind words!
