This is a great instructional video. I just ordered a walking ice axe for just in case for some of the summits on the JMT so this helped a lot.

Your axe seems a little short. Looks like you're having to really bend a lot to plant the spike. Is that the usual length you would walk with? I'm a total novice so just wondering. Thanks for the video - the techniques seem really helpful.
