Cricket Match Fixing - Dead men tell no tales

  • How much more did Hanse Cronje and Bob Woolmer know? Both died in mysterious circumstances. Henry Williams tells how Cronje told him to 'underperform'. Ali Bacher and the SA Board close ranks and defend the indefensible, no wonder scandals are 'hushed up'. Cronje and Woolmer can no longer tell anyone anything.

Thank you for your kindnesses to Hansie. I knew him personally, and although he never discussed the scandal, before it broke, I KNEW something was wrong when I saw him last. he was quiet, thinking too deeply. All he said to me is "I've gotten myself into something I cannot get out of". he was deeply troubled. He was starting to break even then. All I could do was offer my support, as I didn't know the facts, and I didn't pry. Just listened. He loved his sport..and I loved him for it.

I have heard a rumour that hansie and bob woomer deaths was a hit coz they both wanted to speak the truth and later wrote a book that was missing from the hotel. Could you comment on that please?

At least you had the guts to accept it! It's really appreciable of you! Cricketers from my own country India didn't even have the courtesy to accept and apologize! Instead they make false films, talk on chat shows and participate in reality shows! What a pathetic attitude of Indian cricketers

In my opinion the man is still a legend. Being an Indian i can say BCCI is tat the helm of all match fixing. Sharjah is known for most of its matches being fixed and most cricketers have had a hand in it. Some do it willingly some are forced. Hansie one of the greatest captains ever. I find it even hard to believe that he died in a plane crash or was an accident.

He was a decent man, a decent human being. He was drawn into it and with all integrity he carried through his (dishonest) promises to his bookmakers. When the conflict in his own conscience became too severe to bear he broke and handed himself over to the authorities.
The fact is that he had a conscience. We all, human beings, identify with Hansie. We too have made errors in judgement. By the Grace of God we have been spared from the public eye. Hansie faced it, then fell on his own sword to expose the rot in cricket, so let us respect him for that.
God bless you Hansie. We do not judge you or hate you. We love you for the man you were, the player you were, and for the mistakes you made. God and His angels bless you always.

Not too many have the courage to be honest the way late Hansie Cronje had! He was unarguably the best leader that South Africa ever had.
Even the God of Cricket - Shri Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar admitted that it was he was a difficult baller to play.
Late Hansie Cronje will be a legend forever!

You are a brave and honourable man for even saying this out loud. We're all one step away from this. I don't judge you, as that is not my job, you weren't hurting anyone, and unless someone out thre had bets of their own, how you played on a particular day shouldn't matter to anyone, truly. People put too much stock in sports. I know of an Indian syndicate that used to bet on the "Steve Waugh smile index"-betting in which over Steve would finally crack a smile, since he didn't do it very often..

  • @EchelonSummer
    @EchelonSummer 12 років тому +24

He actually never did "Fix" a match!! In order to do that, he would have had to have the participation of the entire team! He himself never underperformed, nor did the other guys who agreed to! So, technically, although he received money from Bookies for information and the PROMISE to attempt to fix the outcome of some batters/bowlers innings, he never truly "fixed' any match he played in, or captained. Hansie was the tip of a very deep iceberg, my friend. A scapegoat for a flawed system.

  • @EchelonSummer

I've never seen anyone who died of a heart attack covered in bruises and looking like they'd just gone 10 rounds with Mike Tyson. Woolmer's body was battered and bruised-desecrated, almost. NEVER in all of my years nursing have I seen a 'heart attack' victim look like THAT...and there are so many odd 'coincidences' surrounding Hansie's death, that it would take forever to tell you. Trust me. Hansie was my friend. A man who made some HUGE errors in judgement. But still just a MAN.

overwhelming majority of cricketers are neith graduates. they are basically at the most passed 12th grade. what can one expect from such people who have short career. they know their career is dependent on selectors etc. they do their best for the betterment of their own future which more often than not involves selling thier own country.
this is not just in cricket. it most often involves soccer/football players and other high profile sports.

He is no man for admitting his mistakes! He got busted big time and the evidence was so strong the only thing he could do was admit guilt. If the evidence wasn't so overwhelming he would have continued to deny and the SA Board would have continued to protect him. As a result his greediness and corrupt ways probably got him murdered along with his coach Bob Woolmer.

Its too sad Hansie did this. To this day the entire era of SA cricket is tarnished, from 94 through until 2000 we never will really know the extent of which games were fixed. I suspect the 99 world cup was part of this, with SA being such favourite and such strange events occurring.....

SMART man...none of them held much money, though. Pity that. If Hansie had been a REAL cheat, they'd have caught him with MILLIONS of dollars. Seriously, though, when a Major League baseball player gets 29 million dollars for four years, I tend to believe that Cricketers are GROSSLY underpaid. Supplementing his salary while never truly affecting the outcome of a match almost necessary. Pity he was too honest in the end. I really think if he'd just been quiet, he would have walked.

Simple answer is for the ICC to simply ban anyone for life if they cheat, tamper with the ball or get involved with match fixing or illegal betting scandals and that goes for all sports not just cricket as it’s the only way to stop it.
If the penalty is not hard enough then players will always try to get away with it....
Steve Smith and David Warner and most of the Pakistani side from 2010 are examples of players that should have been banned for life

Sport is an idol, a religion. People will not even keep the seventh day because it will interfere with their sport entertainment or sport career. One idol, sport, led to the next idol, the lust of riches, so it is with sin.
8 Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it set apart. 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the Sabbath of יהוה thy Elohim: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11 For in six days יהוה made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore יהוה blessed the Sabbath day, and purified it
13 ¶If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my set apart day; and call the sabbath a delight, purified of Yahuah, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words 14 Then shalt thou delight thyself in Yahuah; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of Yahuah hath spoken it.
WOE TO those preachers who preach against the sabbath and lead men astray shame on Ray McCauley that catholic vatican agent who follows the pope and his SUNday worship of his g-o-d idol of silver and gold.

@C B Snow "Jesus said those old rules don't apply" haha you are seriously deluded. You must be from South Africa the corruption capital of the world. Your ex- president corruption King Zuma believes the same while calling himself a devout Christian. How is that going for the brothers and sisters he has stolen from? You sound like Zuma and Hansie Cronje's corruptor mentor Ray McCauley.
First off Yahushua is his name not Jesus/J-Zeus and he taught Torah but ya'll want to invent a Graeco-Roman deity in line with Constantine's ecumenical pantheon.

Mat 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law [TORAH], or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
Mat 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till shamayim (pw heaven) and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
Mat 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the rule and reign (pw kingdom) of shamayim (pw heaven): but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the rule and reign (pw kingdom) of shamayim (pw heaven).

@C B Snow I am saying that the Torah has not been done away with and that your country is a mess through that kind of teaching - it came with the apartheid Christians preaching Torahless doctrines and it is now with the anti-apartheid Christians teaching torahless doctrines so there is no place or time to preach the Torah is done away with - the plagues have already started. I do not need a hug for the Father loves those who keep his commandments it is time to REPENT and your Government is more corrupt now than the apartheid one stealing from their own and perverting justice at every turn!

Apartheid is torahless and so is the current government of your country and those who support these thugs who run it. I hate what your country is doing - perverting justice while praying to "God" to bless them. Your ex-president is praying and thanking "God" for protecting him from the dark forces while he is the one who is worshiping the dark force Satan. Yet your people are defending him and going to church at the same time. Yahushua did not come to bring peace (Pax Romano) he came to divide because truth divides the wicked from the righteous and those who are lukewarm like your agent of Rome Tutu he will spit out. SA in a nutshell Amo_5:12 For I know your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins: they afflict the just, they take a bribe, and they turn aside the poor in the gate from their right.

I'm amused by all the Indians on here going on about how great he was. He was corrupt and greedy, he intentionally lost games for money and did great harm to the sport of cricket.
