1957 was not a bad year for car sales but it didn’t reach the heights of 1955...and 1958 was a recession, and car sales were poor. It also marked the first substantial foreign car sales in the USA, which occurred because for the first time, a good percentage of Americans began to reject the oversized, gaudy and gimmicky cars seen in this newsreel story.
Unlike the stylish beauties being produced today eh!!!😂😂 This was when America was at its Zenith!!!😁 How did a country fall so far in just 60 years???🤔😣😠😞😥
I'd love to see the entire '57 auto show coverage. This is probably from January '57, 4 months before I was born. That aside, imports (especially the VW) were making inroads the Big 3 didn't like, but to their credit, had already started designing the '60 Falcon, Corvair and Valiant in 1956. In the meantime, Rambler was doing well filling that void.
Why did someone think it was alright to have that model kneeling on the hood of that new car at 0:12 ? I heard of creative advertising but that's just not right in my opinion, there has to be a better way. I know if I was the president of a certain brand of car and if I was in charge of it I definitely would not allow someone to do that to my product for advertising or displaying it.
While true that it was a different time...beautiful models have always been associated with new car styles. And don't worry...based on your comments, you'll never be asked to be President of any car company.
I wish that I could attend!
Wow this makes me want one of those new cars
Wow auto shows haven't change a bit.
Everything today is boring as hell compared to those stylish high powered chrome laden monsters of the highway at least they’re unique
They also got like 8 mpg with all that heavy chrome.
@@04dram04 but not many back then cared when gas was around 20 cents a gallon or less with gas wars
"Smaller 14 inch wheels"!! On these big cars? Today it´s the opposite that counts!
"And there's room for luggage, too." Yeah, two cosmetic cases.
Actually the Skyliner had a decent area in the middle of the trunk for luggage. Probably 24" x 24".
I had a 1968 Mercury Monteray 4-dr. I put a full size dresser in the trunk.
Got to
Fix my
Time machine😊
👍✨.
You couldn’t find 10 American cars made in America in 2024.
Were there a record player and/or a telephone in one car?
Yes, even low priced Plymouths had the "Highway Hi-Fi" record player as and option since '56

The simple answer is: This was 1957, not 2017!
Beautiful legs on her, don't you agree?
