Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 (also known as NFS6, NFS: HP2, and Hot Pursuit 2) is a 2002 racing video game, serving as the debut Need for Speed (NFS) title from EA Black Box[2], and the first Need for Speed for the sixth generation of consoles as well as the last of the Classic Era Need for Speed Games. In 2003, the game was awarded Console Racing Game of the Year
Hot Pursuit 2 draws primarily from the gameplay and style of Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit; its emphasis was on evading the police and over-the-top tracks featuring lengthy shortcuts.
As with the game's predecessor, the player also has the option to play as a police officer trying to arrest speeders. To do so the player rams the speeding vehicle multiple times to disable it. The player must turn on their lights and sirens while in pursuit, and they automatically turn off after arresting the suspect. Police can call for a road block, spike strips, and request help from a helicopter to assist in chasing the target vehicle. At the end, the player is awarded for the cars busted. In the PlayStation 2 version this mode is called You're the Cop mode while in the PC, Gamecube and Xbox versions it's Be the Cop mode.
Races take place in four environments which differ in atmosphere, with a handful of tracks per environment. The different tracks in an environment are formed by different roads being connected or separated by road blocks. A fictional tropical island, reminiscent of Hawaii, is the most varied environment; the track traverses a city, volcano, waterfall, beach, forest, and two villages. The coastal forest environment, reminiscent of the Washington coast, sometimes has foggy weather, but this does not effectively limit visibility during races. The Mediterranean coast and so-called Alpine environments are more homogeneous, with little variation except the occasional short cut. Compared to the original Hot Pursuit, which features weather and day/night variation independent of track, and widely varying environments from snowy mountains over cities to desert, Hot Pursuit 2 tracks have significantly less variation.
Hot Pursuit 2 is also the first in the series to lack an in-car view that was available in preceding Need for Speed titles. There is only a "driver's perspective" view available, without a visible dashboard. There is one race however on the PlayStation 2 version, with a Ferrari, in which the player drives with this in-car view.

“These graphics look so real” said everyone back in early 2000’s.
Haha 😂😂😂
They still hold quite well though. :D
I used to think they were real, until I got a bit wiser, but man, this looks very realistic still.
Gerard honestly they are way ahead of its time, and before my time and yes I’m a kid and yes I know it came out in 2002
@Vlado Gamer definitely. Newer NFS games are terrible. Last great game was Most Wanted 2012
You had a good childhood if you recognize this
You are (expletive) right!

That was hard as a kid. Probably 10+ attempts on that one

The best intro ever. The Diablo drifting around the corner is one of the best shots in the history of NFS

But dat's not a trailer D:
YablokoG Intro 😊
Cool that is my favorite need for speed you have to buy the countach, sesto elemento, and diablo with real money.
Noah Crawford I'd buy the 98 Diablo SV
Need For Speed games today just don't have that same "wow" effect that these older games had. I can watch this intro in 2020 and it still gives me the same chills it did 18 years ago.
That diablo police cruiser drifting into frame still gets me EVERY FUCKING TIME!
Nostalgia man

Same man... I feel that
Same here man.😁
Agree with you bro
0:52 the most cinematic and iconic shot in all of the Need For Speed franchise. I’m gonna get that printed for a poster in my room.
Seriously
This was probably to hit with nostalgia those who played NFS III (Hot Pursuit) and NFS IV HT in PS1 in the 90's. The Diablo COP was a nightmare in NFS IV.
Watching this in 2023 is another level of Nostalgia 😢
Goosebumps every time looking at:
1) That Diablo Interceptor drifts around the corner. While the other two cars take the grippy way, the bad-ass officer eats the corner with rear wheels!
2) Closing scene when camera moving around the jumping cars. The law and the outlaws on equal machines. Bad-ass cars, bad-ass music, bad-ass scene!
Cop Lambos (Diablo and Reventón) are always good at entrances:
Diablo - Drifting around the corner as he enters into the scene to chase those two cars all by himself.
Reventón - Starting off from the distance about to zoom-through as one of the strongest SCPD units came to arrive in heroic way as possible, as he blazes through everything in which that is badass asf as the Diablo's entrance.
@@JeiVron294 For real. HP10s trailer still gives me chills when the Reventón just zooms by the cops and ends the whole thing in a matter of 10 seconds.
There’s no such thing as a “bad ass officer”
Can we all agree that the shot at 0:52 is the best thing in NFS history?
+YOTLP I agree
I agree too
When I first saw that back in the day, I completely lost it!
Those few seconds was the best part of the whole intro!
yeeeeeesssssssssssss!!!!
For an early 2000s game, this still looks really impressive.
Buttered Toast they are pretty good but this wasn’t gameplay footage
When i was a kid I believed that the graphics of racing game could not get better than this game! The graphics are amazing for its time
Yea even on xp
Take this NFS with actual graphics.... Bruh....
@FBI That was the most brain dead argument I've ever seen
This intro has a special place in my heart.
We will never get games like this, so innocent, so pure, back when developers were pushing both hardware and software while also innovating new gameplay features or improving on what they had. This intro is so simple, just a red and yellow sports car chasing each other with a cop chase and licensed music over it, but so well done
Totally, they made a lot with very little
The PC version was disappointing and HP2 had less features than High Stakes
OUFF!! Right in the childhood!
+XelPixels Just like that!
same I played this with my brother a lot
+JJ Styles good times
+JJ Styles know what ya mean but I could never beat brother it sucked
Ah.... Loved playing this game, brings back so many memories
Hands down the best racing game intro.
deathbastardable watch Burnout 3
And Tokyo Xtreme Racer Drift 2
deathbastardable that s right i love it
So many memories, defently the best intro
Well for me the best intro is in Shift 2 Unleashed. That stopped scene and details and also no music, just dramatic sounds is something really cool.
I’m 19 years old and I remember playing this game on the GameCube before school everyday and I’ll never forget those memories this game gave me.
this game came out in 2002, weren't you born after that? I thought it was just ~30 year olds like me in this comment section

I'm 30 years old, laying in bed watching this and making car noises. I loved this game.
We never grow up. We only move on.
I cried🤦🏾♂😭😭
So do I.
I'm 31 doing the same. High five😉
Seeing this made me extremely sad. It is like seeing myself 20+ years later looking at 8 years old me through the other side of the screen, screaming helplessly to my youger self of something, though I don't know what. Maybe to warn me to stop trying... because it won't ever make sense.
I know most people would say Underground & Most Wanted were the best NFS games, but this was my personal favorite
Me too! Fuck MW2005! This cops are an authentic treat, specially that drop-bomb chopper its literally a nightmare of every 90's/00's kids like me.
Most wanted but its one of nfs and just still no favorites... okay maybe one but still
Carbon tho
AXL163 Hahahaha a nightmare. Honestly I think the dropping spike strips are the real nightmare. MW2005 I think is the most well rounded. Didn’t have as much customization as Underground, the cops didn’t have bombs to drop on you, but it had both sides. I think that’s the big reason why people love it. Also I did like the cheesy Live action story line. Don’t get me wrong though. I played the shit out HP2, Underground, and MW2005. I even played HP2010 a decent amount.
Me too I Played this game so fun and the cars is awesome
The audacity of this trailer for those years is out of this world. The ideea, the cars used, the music, how it was all shot and put together makes it even today one of the greatest racing trailers. Kudos to the people involved.
Childhood memories from this game were unlocked successfully
officer:"31 county"
Dispatch:"copy 31"
Officer:"Turning on a speeder that just flew by me"
I've gotta say best lines from nfs history.
is it flew by me or blew by me?
blew by me*
I always thought it said "just blue barbie"
SAME lol
oi same 😅😅
My favorite lines from this game:
"31 County"
"I copy, 31"
"Turning on a speeder that just blew by me!"
"21 County, in pursuit! Vehicle is a yellow Lamborghini!"
"21 County, this guy is gonna kill somebody! I am discontinuing pursuit"
"21 County, I've got him again! In pursuit. Vehicle is a yellow Lamborghini"
"Requesting roadblock"
"31, the roadblock is in place. It's by the marina."
"21 County, the speeder just blew right through the roadblock!"
"Requesting chopper"
"Air County One, the chopper is airborne"
(Hits bomb, flips over a dozen and a half times)
"This is Air County One, I am returning to the helipad"
"21 County, this guy is not stopping. I am discontinuing pursuit"
*"You win!*
Love it!
Wooooooooowww
You have been awarded with the gold medal!
The most favorite as for cop/ the most terrifying as for racer:
"Permisson to set a spike strip!"
"County on patrol, spike strip is set!"
"46 County, in pursuit, vehicle is a green Lotus Elise"
"Copy, 46"
"Requesting additional units"
(in fact the useless moron without inflicting damage or trying to PIT suspect)
"46, it's, 41, I'll be secondary"
"Requesting the chopper"
"County on patrol, the chopper is near"
"He is not stopping, permisson to set a spike strip"
"County on the patrol, spike strip is deployed"
"46 country, I've stopped the Lotus Elise"
This is what you call an intro man, this is something that attracts you to a game, makes you want to do the same moves in the game as you see in the trailer or intro, the rush the chase, man these vehicles used to feel like speed demons. The music sinks in and makes you feel more alive than ever. I miss this.
Had to come back and watch this years later. This game will forever be the reason the Murcielago is my dream car.

This is the only intro I’ve never skipped. Right in the childhood lmao. Awesome game
This, and Populous 3

Also never skipped the NBA 2k2 and 2k5 intros, but this is the one that the nostalgia hits the hardest
This nostalgy is just unbelievable. Happy birthday 20yo as of today, to the game that marked my childhood. Thank you EA for such a masterpiece.
As kids, we all knew that last cop car meant BUSINESS
Every time I accidentally skipped the intro I would restart the entire computer just to watch it again. 😃
U could just go to the menu screen and wait.. It would take u back to the intro then when u don't play the game and stay there waiting in the menu 🙆🏻♂️...
I do that to my playstation
Its funny how modern NFS games have better graphics during gameplay than this game's intro. Its also funny how with all the technology that EA has these days, they cant create another NFS game that was as fun as Hot Pursuit 2..
***** NFS hot pursuit 1 & 2, underground 1 & 2 and most wanted was the best!
Obviously, since you're extremely nostalgic towards these particular NFS games you feel like that.
You're grown up now, you've lost interest in driving games, right? (^;^)

Haha never "grow up" man. : )
Always keep that tiny bit of your child and cultivate that aspect of your personality, it's important to be able to relax whatever it is you enjoy doing despite your age.

***** I still remember how the helicopter dropped barrels (?) on fire hahaha
Such nostalgia seeing this again 😔 I can’t believe it’s been 20 years already I was just 7 years old when this was out the old NFS games were too good.
Same here. I appreciate my dad
coming here on new years day at 1 am DJ just played this in a club and my childhood flew by
You can give the newer NFS games better graphics, but you can't give them soul like this game had. Being born in 1990, the Diablo is the car that turned me into a car enthusiast. Seeing it along with the Murcielago for the first time was just... wow.
i was born in 2004, and i played it even then, and it was 90% of my childhood fun!
Taw Seef I was born in 1994, and this game was my childhood on PS2. Favorite game of all time. Amazing into also. That diablo cop gave me goosebumps every time I saw it lol
The car that turned me into a car enthusiast is the Ferrari 550 Maranello from III:HP. I just cant get over it.
I was 6, when I was playing this, now I am 13 and I fucking hate FORTNITE and play this game daily
Me too mate. Same year, same car that got me started. I was lucky enough to drive one in 2015. Emotional!
I remember back in 2001 i struggled to discern whether or not this intro was live action at certain points. That's certainly not the case today.
Still impressive
I still cant distinguish if in some parts are live action, not even modern nfs has that graphics they abuse of crapy effects
Im also asking the same thing
The roadblock pileup always had me wondering
Lol - I can sympathize. CRT TV's resolution was so bad, couldn't really blame us.
My dad bought me a ps2 for a birthday and I got this game, jak and daxter, and tekken tag tournament. Good times and good games!
I was 24 with a full-time job when this game came out, and I still sat for 6 hours playing this after work! 😜
Hey I remember this used to be hyper realistic to me
Ifkr.
Yea I remembered that it had realistic graphics when I was younger but just going back to it now, the graphics were much different than I remembered.
JohnParkour in 2002, this was light years ahead of it's time compared to other games.. I remember when I was around 4-5 playing this back in 04-05 when I had it..
It's still not too bad, but yea I remember being shocked at the realism in the intro.
As a kid, in the small old monitors it looked way more realistic ofc.
I even thought it was real at first as a kid until my dad told me it's not.
This game is the reason I love the CLK GTR.
OMG! Haha I used to have an email address litteraly called mercedes_clk_gtr_3 or something like that because of that game haha
Hey Adahop! I've been seeing you at Neebsgaming =)
Haha fancy meeting you here!
Adahop I loved Ferrari when I played this.
And for me ferrari f50
This intro is an homage to the NFS 2 opening cinematic, a red Jaguar and a yellow Lambo street racing, with the Lambo flashing its lights as well. It's probably the same two drivers a couple years later, still trying to be best driver
What Ferrari? That’s a Jaguar.
@@NerfMaster000 You're right, I spaced and thought it was also a Ferrari in NFS 2

Happy i had them man, sweet times.
Same here bud

- sync between music and Murcielago busting the barriers

- V12 Murcielago overtaking the V8 Modena Spider like it's nothing when getting the chance
- absolute BOSS Crown Vic entrance, even though they stand no chance

When the Lamborghini cop car shows up you're screwed because then speed won't save you.
The game that got me to fall in love with the BMW Z8.
"EA...chalenge everything" sounded so much better then what they have now
What do they have now?
siloPIRATE "EA...it's in the game"
EA Sports. It's in the game
EA Sports! BIG! Big!
@The God Emperor Himself this joke is getting old.
@The God Emperor Himself nice one. EA Games, MONETISE everything!
Ah, those were the days. Best Need for Speed game hands down, right before Underground turned away from everything NFS was about in order to jump on the Fast and Furious hype train. The series was never the same after this. Damn shame. I miss the good racing games.
+1
NFS HP 2010 got many things right but they should have left out burnout paradise out of it to give it more of an nfs feeling
+A. Yalama Yup, it did indeed get many things right and was overall a very enjoyable game. But the driving mechanics felt alien in a NFS landscape.
yeah i love/hate Underground. I love that it's a great quality game but i hate how it creates another fanbase (mostly little kids) who had no idea what real NFS was. Before NFS 2015 came out, lots of them were bitching for a real NFS like Underground when the real NFS deals with supercars, cops and beautiful locations.
***** Exactly how I felt. I won't deny that I did enjoy my playthrough of Underground, but there was just no comparing it to the previous NFS titles. Taking the action away from exotic, picturesque locations and putting it in the confines of a generic city felt wrong. Buying your everyday cars and tricking them out with over the top visual customization was never my thing either. I prefer cars who mesmerize you by default, without adding extra visual flare to them because they are already MADE to capture your attention. And, of course, racing through the streets, dodging traffic and not drawing a drop of attention from the police felt wrong as well.
Veloziraptor111 that's why Most Wanted was better than Underground, at least in my opinion.
I turned 42 last year and this.... is still legendary for me :D
I normally reached a point where I would always skip intros in all of my games… but not with this one. I was always amped to play after watching this
That Diablo scene...just amazing *-*
So nostalgic literally brings a tear to my eyes. I used to play this in elementary school when I stayed at my grandparents in the summer cause they had a ps2. I love everything about this game
Same way I feel
Anyone else get chills for some reason when all three cars are in the air ?
That Lambo scene just epic
