This is an informative video. I was able to store limes in my fridge for 3 months before making them into lime juice. At least I'll be able to sell in colder months when limes are scarce. This helped, thanks. - Lime vendor
Hi Carla do you have to repeat the same process when you take some lemons out of the bag? Okay, sorry , first of all , ¿what is the method that you used ? The one with water and vinegar or the vacuum ?...I hope you have the chance to let me know... Thanks
The system of soaking in a gallon of water and cup of vinegar would work for all your produce. I usually fill up my sink with water and add a cup of vinegar let it set about 20 minutes. Remove from the water let it air dry and store in a ziplock in fridge. Your tomatoes, grapes, lettuce, cucumbers and so on. It’s pretty amazing that how much longer your produce will last in your fridge
I cannot believe the rude comments. I enjoyed the video. No it wasn't too long. Yes, I learned something. I also learned there are a lot of rude, ignorant people in this world.
Their call Ass Holes....they usually have shards of glass and razor blade shoved up there anus so far they don't know what else to do but critique videos cuz there is nothing else in their miserable Little lives!
Very smart! Limes are spoiled by mold. When you soak them in vinegar and then thouroughly wipe them, you get rid of most molds and create a low pH (hostile) surface for any remaining mold spores. All mold are aeorobic therefore it is very smart store lime in an environment with reduced levels of oxygen.
Put the items in the zip lock bag, slide the zipper almost all the way closed, insert a drinking straw in the opening and press the zipper as close to the straw as possible and then proceed to suck the air out. Pull the straw out of the bag and quickly close the zipper as quickly as possible. Voila!
Or do the same, but place in a tub of water, and the water will press all the air out the bag (where submerged), then suck out the rest of you want, and complete the seal.
@Creative Revival I know because the fruits and veggies would stay fresh for days when we did not have a fridge bck in the old days. And now even when I refrigerate it, it gets all watery or soggy.
Thanks for your video I buy a lot of lines especially when it's on sale and I make my drinks with them and some does go bad in the fridge now I know what to wash them with before and proper storage.
Thank you for sharing. I learned this morning. I do wash my fruits and with vinegar but I do rinse them. I will use your method for my lemons and limes.
I used aluminum foil and wrap my fruits and veggies before storing them in the fridge/veggies drawers they will last up to 3-4weeks crisp and fresh. The aluminum foil traps the ethylene gas that releases from the produce and it will slow down the ripening process.
Thanks for this video. So both methods are to store in the fridge, not freezer. Use a freezer or vacuum sealed bag but the super tight one last longer than the other?
Nice! This is great for key limes too esp they're small and i tend to buy them by bulk and most easily rot even if i refrigerate them in bags. I think this will work great. Thanks!
He or she showed you a better conservation, soaked in 4 liters of water + 1 cup of vinegar, which help to conserve the lime longer! It maybe helpull to those who needs it often!
So, using method #2, do you have to keep your vacuum near the refrigerator each time you want a lime/lemon to reseal the bag? Why not use more smaller bags, say 6 to 8 limes per bag?
Love this ... I constantly have to buy new lemons or limes because of a brown spot I get on them after their cut. Only seem to have this brown stuff on skin on organic lemons or limes. This is
This was such a great video! Very clear and understandable, and also very watchable! I just bought a big Meyer lemon tree and I will definitely try these techniques.👍😉
Next time buy a Williams tree, oranges grow faster on that tree :) and the pears are automatically sprayed with balsamic vinegar. you can leave the apples on it, no need to freeze. :)
@@nobbywhey2726 Good to know! I just bought a smallish lime tree, but it already had blossoms and tiny limes on it. We planted it about 5 days ago, and it just exploded with flowers and the limes doubled in size, lol. I don't know what we did, but it's in a happy place. Plus, we are in sunny Florida.☺
If you don't have a vacuum to suck out the air, do the following: Put the items inside the plastic zip lock bag. Submerge about one-fourth of the bag in water to displace some of the air. Partially seal the bag but leave a tiny opening just small enough to insert a drinking straw. With your mouth, suck out the excess air through the straw then carefully fully zip the bag closed.
Thank you for the tip. I have a vacuum sealer which will work well with your idea. I will portion them so I don't have to thaw out all of it prematurely 😊👍
Foodsaver in usa has ziplock bags you can then draw the air out of. Thanks. Going to try it with meyers lemons. Such a short season. After being stuck to plastic in storage, i would certainly do a vinegar/water soak 1st before using what i take out.
Vinegar is a natural antimicrobial so it will work with any produce/fruit product. Been using it for years and you don't have to let the lemons/limes sit for 30 minutes. 5 minutes will be enough to kill the bacteria.

thanks 4 the tip. Never mind the silly comments below, some people spend their time being rude & critical. ( Can't think past the post.) What kind of grade level does one have to have to know that if just 1 lime is required, then take out 1. How much thinking does that require? Duh!
I personally open the bag once every 10 days and take out lemons that will last for 10 days. Just remember it is all about the original condition of lemons before you store them. If you are going to store soft lemons, then don't expect them to last long. I only use freshly picked hard limes or lemons.
As noted they aren't available all year long. More than that the quality of what's available tends to decrease as their season ends. I've often found it difficult to even find one that's usable at a certain point and they get more expensive. Go figure. So I very much appreciate these tips.
