I became an atheist because I felt that it was the right thing to do for my moral standards. I can easily act like a Hindu and reap all the benefits of Hinduism but I cannot stand the bigotry and hate it comes with. So although I get stares from my Hindu family and relatives, I feel free because for me I am doing the right thing.

I found out that people call persons like me an atheist ... then i knew that i was thinking and became atheist naturally. Before that i thought iam a non believer and its a normal thing. I didn't realized the chaos that will bring after i address myself as an atheist and started engaging in religion politics around me and in the world. And most importantly i found peace with my self and im happy after knowing what is what. That thinking helped me to be positive in many situations in my life and journey. Best thing about being an atheist is that you will start to realize and treat every human as equally capable of doing anything but we are being manipulated by the politics, religious hatred, superstitions, unnecessary fearmongering about our traditions and cultures.
"Atheism" is not a public designation or a thing one can become on a whim. Like you said, there might be people who are atheists in mind, but just pretend to be religious to make life easy - that still makes them atheist, not religious. Atheism is a realization once you reach a certain tipping point of introspection and learning, and (almost always) there's no going back once you get to that point.
Vimoh talks about people's identity in their peer group, Athiesm is not religion and should not be a political social identity of a person. It's a lack belief in God. You put a good point my friend.

Here you can read the language of an Upanishad but please ise padho as a human being not as a follower of any kind of religion when a man speaks the Truth, they say, "He speaks the Dharma"; and if he speaks Dharma, they say, "He speaks the Truth!" Being atheist it brings a few changes, you will be honest to yourself. You will see humans with humanity. All so called belivers will look down upon you and such like things.
@Centrist-Human all truths are perceptions, aren't they? Religions creates Zionists and jingoism Catholics and Protestants etc... Shia and Sunni etc.... It all depends upon your journey, after my indepth research its impossible to stay a believer n reaction from close ones was so scary that its better to stay closeted. Yup lost a lot, but living life on my terms n thats peaceful.
I think atheism is a very bad choice. If you are living in a democratic country then you are free to create your own religion and followers. Just create a new religion like jediism or lotr and hary potter and there are infinite possibilities with lore from different comics and legends. That will also create a community. The world's fastest growing religion is artificial intelligence and materialism
Only rational thinking is important for an adult; in childhood we have no option but to believe our parents, and we are conditioned to believe in God and many other superstitious stuff. Don't fall into the trap of faith. Find your calling. Now, go with your emotional satisfaction. If you can critically think, then quest whatever learns you till age. It's a journey. Find your truth; rationality is not natural; you have to develop it through scientific temprament. Athiesm is simply lacking belief in God. You have to also understand the three aspects of religion. 1. Mythology 2. Rituals 3. Philosophy
Fully agree. Obviously not all conflicts will stop, but the world will surely be a way better place than it is right now. The Hindu-Muslim conflicts will stop, the bigotry against people from a "lower" caste will stop, the political parties won't have a tool like religion to manipulate the common man, the hate against people of other religions will not be possible, homophobia and transphobia will also decrease, and so much more

It's not necessarily true that atheists view humans with humanity.
For example: China.
