  • The story of the Old Testament is the story of God, who wants a family on earth as in heaven. First with Adam and Eve, and then with Abraham's family. The story goes wrong pretty soon, but God wasn't surprised, because he would rather have a world with suffering and sin, instead of a world in which we don't exist. He's not going to change the plan. Check this out!

I am not comfortable with the way Michael describes God as less than all powerful. God could not create humanity without evil surfacing, or so Michael says. I don't think this is a fair limitation to impose on God, but rather that the surfacing of evil is an intended part of God's all over plan.

@1:05 God has a family. He wants to exalt them to be like he is.
Most of our confusion & misunderstandings are based in the fact that we don't understand what God wants.

As a relatively recent follower of Christ, it seems to me that the problem of evil could be accounted for with two basic presuppositions: God let Adam have free will, and God keeps His agreements with us humans so we can learn our own way.
Accept those two postulates and we can understand exactly why sin is such a powerful affront to Him and so dangerous to us.

This is a classic example of "spiritualizing" scripture. This answer is not even inferred in the OT. Jesus never eluded to the idea of "God wanting a family. Sometimes, the obvious answer is the easiest answer. Quite simply, the Old Testament is really about God. It's when you read through it that you find out His wants., desires and will. But please, allow God to speak for himself.

Confusing. God did not “want a family”. What does that even mean. God created man and man is to give God the glory. God wanted us to experience giving Him the glory and enjoy Him forever. He wanted to share with us the joy of His glory.
But the overall meaning of the Old Testament is that it is not about us, it is about Jesus Christ our Lord. From Genesis to Revelation the Scriptures speak about Jesus. It is not about us. Jesus said:
39 You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. 40 But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.
41 “I do not receive honor from men. 42 But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in you. 43 I have come in My Father’s name, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his own name, him you will receive. 44 How can you believe, who receive honor from one another, and do not seek the honor that comes from the only God? 45 Do not think that I shall accuse you to the Father; there is one who accuses you-Moses, in whom you trust. 46 For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me. 47 But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?”
How does Heiser think that the Old Testament was about God wanting a family? He spoke nothing about Jesus, nothing about how we were made to give God the glory, nothing about the shadows in the Old Testament but revealed through the New Testament in Jesus, nothing about the Gospel. It was bland as usual from Heiser with no substance. He was supposed to know this stuff. He was supposed to be a scholar. The Bible is about Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. He is supposed to know this.

You are being a fool. God did not create the human race just to "give God the glory". If He simply wanted that, He could've stopped with the angels. Yes, God DOES want a Family, and He IS building a Family. That's why He created us out of every other living thing in existence to possess His likeness and image! "Sons of God", "child of God", "brothers", "Bride", "Husband", "Father", and Son" are all family terms! The word "family" itself came from God!

@@theeternalsbeliever1779 God did not need a family, He chose to make us and enjoy Him forever. He created us and wanted us to have fellowship with Him and share that with us. He is self sufficient without us. That was my point. This will all be explained below. My point was that Heiser left out what the Old Testament was about. It is about Jesus. He never mentioned what the Old Testament actually was about. God wanted to create people to have fellowship not because He was lonely or needed anything from us like I said He was self-sufficient… that was my point. I’m willing to concede to the family statement I made but that doesn’t excuse Heiser for not giving the meaning of the Old Testament. It is still all about Jesus from Genesis to Revelation. We can agree on that.
God made us for many reasons, but two of them are for His glory and for fellowship with Him. God is not lacking. Instead, His love is fulfilled in sacrificing Himself for us.
      * Isaiah 43:7, ” Everyone who is called by My name, And whom I have created for My glory, Whom I have formed, even whom I have made.”
      * 1 Cor. 1:9, “For God is faithful through whom you were called into fellowship with His Son Christ Jesus.”
Have you ever wondered why you are here? Why God created you?
Was it to satisfy a hidden need in Him? Was it because God was bored just hanging around forever in empty space doing nothing. Maybe it was because He was just curious and wanted to know what would happen if He made a bunch of people and put them on a planet in the middle of nowhere. The Bible doesn’t specifically say why God made us, but it does say that he created us.
      * Rev. 4:11 says, “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will, they were created and have their being.”
      But, why are you here?
      1. To find out why God made you we have to look in the Bible. And a good place to start is The Garden of Eden.
      1. God walked with Adam and Eve in the Garden (Gen. 3:8).
      1. What does it mean for God to walk with them?
      1. It means closeness, intimacy, communion.
      2. Picture this. Adam and Eve and God literally walking next to each other in perfect harmony.
      2. Why did God walk with them?
      1. Because He loved them.
      2. Because He wanted fellowship with them.
      2. When Adam and Eve sinned, what did they do?
      1. They hid themselves: Gen. 3:8 “And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.”
      2. Who came looking for who?
      1. God came looking for them: Gen. 3:9 says, “Then the LORD God called to the man, and said to him, ‘Where are you?'”
      3. Who was the first to shed blood?
      1. Gen. 3:21, “And the LORD God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife, and clothed them.”
      2. God made an atonement for them.
      3. Jesus is the first to shed blood because the Father is never seen in the Bible: John 6:46. “Not that anyone has seen the Father, except He who is from God; He has seen the Father.”
But Adam and Eve were with God, God the Son.
      4. They had been cast out of God’s presence.
      2. But, that isn’t the end. God sought His people again.
      1. From the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve went out and had children who had children, etc.
      1. They filled the earth
      2. Eventually, after the tower of Babel, after Noah’s Flood, God called Abraham to go to a new land.
      3. Abraham became the first of God’s chosen people who multiplied on the earth.
      4. They became enslaved in Egypt and eventually were freed by Moses.
      2. After leaving Egypt and after the 10 commandments had been given to the Jews, God said something most interesting to Moses in Exodus 25:8, “And let them construct a sanctuary for Me, that I may dwell among them.”
      1. There is more physical space in the Bible devoted to the subject of the tabernacle than any other subject even heaven, hell, Jesus, or the cross… anything.
      3. If you remember, God sought Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Here in the wilderness, He sought them again.
      4. Why did He tell them to build a sanctuary?
      1. He needed a holy place to dwell.
      2. He wanted to be among His people in a special way.
      5. The tabernacle
      1. It was a movable tent.
      2. One hundred cubits long and fifty cubits wide (about 150 feet long by 75 feet wide)
      3. It had many furnishings, but the most important was the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies.
      1. In the Holy of Holies is where the ark of the covenant was
      1. Aaron’s Rod, a jar of manna, and the ten commandments
      2. The Mercy Seat was a top made of pure gold with 2 angels fashioned in them. This was on top of the Ark of the Covenant.
      4. The Tabernacle was where the yearly offering of atonement would be made by the High Priest
      6. After the tabernacle was built, the Temple was built and the Holy of Holies was moved in there along with the Ark of the Covenant.
      7. This was with Israel up until the time of Jesus.
      3. In the N.T. God still seeks to be with His people.
      1. In John 1:1,14 it says, “In the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the Word was God… and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
      2. The Greek word there for “dwelt” is skanae. It means to tabernacle.
      3. Again, God is seeking His people, but this time, instead of dwelling in a temple, he was then walking around among the people.
      1. Jesus, who was God in flesh, was again walking with His people, just like the Garden of Eden.
      4. But we know what they did to Jesus. They killed Him. They crucified Him.
      1. But God was not surprised by this. In fact, it was part of his plan. Instead of making a sacrifice by a high priest, once a year, in the holy of holies, Jesus became that sacrifice once and for all by dying on the cross so that we can believe in Jesus and be forgiven of our sins.
      2. That is why it says in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever would believe in Him would not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
      3. The nature of Love is to give
      4. What is the best thing God could give? - love.
      5. What is the best thing YOU can give? - love…
      1. Love people by showing them Jesus, by being honest, good, and true.
      5. 1 Cor. 1:9, “For God is faithful through whom you were called into fellowship with His Son Christ Jesus.”
      1. He wants to have fellowship with you because He loves you.
      2. Fellowship in Greek is the word koinonia. It means intimacy, communion, and fellowship.
      1. It is also translated into the word, “communion” when referring to the communion supper.
      2. The communion supper is the place of intense intimacy between God and the Christian.
      1. Describe what happens there.
      3. This fellowship with God the Father MUST be through God the Son: Jesus. There is no other way.
      4. You HAVE to go through Jesus. You cannot make yourself right before God by what you do, by what you think, or by being sincere… You can only be right before God by trusting in what Jesus did on the cross, by the sacrifice of Himself so you could be forgiven of your sins…… and then be able to be with God…. forever.
      1. Only through Jesus….. which is why God made you to live with Him, forever.
      2. God wants to have fellowship with you, through His Son.
      3. God wants to love you forever.
      Conclusion
God wants fellowship with you not because of what or who you are, but because of who He is.
      * He is loving
      * He is giving
      * The best He can give is Himself.
      * He has given you the Holy Spirit so that you might have God living within you. Not in a desert sanctuary or a stone temple, but in a living intimate way.
      * You can know Him, experience Him, and feel Him.
      * He created you for Him.
      Enjoy Him.

What does God care for glory? He does not need it. We do.

    • @kn39793
      @kn39793 4 місяці тому

@@davidthompson1369 What do you mean, “what does God care for glory”??? I just gave Biblical reason why God gets all glory. It’s all over the Bible. Do you not have a Bible? Sincere question. It is seriously all over the Bible.
God did not need a family, He chose to make us and enjoy Him forever. He created us and wanted us to have fellowship with Him and share that with us. He is self sufficient without us. That was my point.
He doesn’t need anything outside of Himself, like He is lonely. He created us to give Him glory and for us to experience that and see His glory.
The short answer to the question “why did God create us?” is “for His pleasure.” Revelation 4:11 says, “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.” Colossians 1:16 reiterates the point: “All things were created by him and for him.” Being created for God’s pleasure does not mean humanity was made to entertain God or provide Him with amusement. God is a creative Being, and it gives Him pleasure to create. God is a personal Being, and it gives Him pleasure to have other beings He can have a genuine relationship with.
Being made in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:27), human beings have the ability to know God and therefore love Him, worship Him, serve Him, and fellowship with Him. God did not create human beings because He needed them. As God, He needs nothing. In all eternity past, He felt no loneliness, so He was not looking for a “friend.” He loves us, but this is not the same as needing us. If we had never existed, God would still be God-the unchanging One (Malachi 3:6). The I AM (Exodus 3:14) was never dissatisfied with His own eternal existence. When He made the universe, He did what pleased Himself, and since God is perfect, His action was perfect. “It was very good” (Genesis 1:31).
Also, God did not create “peers” or beings equal to Himself. Logically, He could not do so. If God were to create another being of equal power, intelligence, and perfection, then He would cease to be the one true God for the simple reason that there would be two gods-and that would be an impossibility. “The LORD is God; besides him there is no other” (Deuteronomy 4:35). Anything that God creates must of necessity be lesser than He. The thing made can never be greater than, or as great as, the One who made it.
God has complete sovereignty and holiness and He calls us “friends” (John 15:14-15). Why did God create us? God created us for His pleasure and so that we, as His creation, would have the pleasure of knowing Him.
NOWHERE does it say humans get the glory. The Bible says the opposite. We give God the glory.
      1 Corinthians 10:31 ESV
So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
      1 Peter 4:11 ESV

      Isaiah 48:11 ESV

      Revelation 14:7 ESV
And he said with a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come, and worship him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water.”
      John 1:14 ESV
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
      Psalm 46:10 ESV

      2 Corinthians 4:6 ESV
For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
      Romans 15:9 ESV

      Isaiah 6:3 ESV
And one called to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!”
      Philippians 2:11 ESV
And every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
      Psalm 57:5 ESV
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let your glory be over all the earth!
      2 Corinthians 4:7 ESV
But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.
      Romans 11:36 ESV
For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.
I could go on to other Scriptures but what you said about God not needing glory and we need the glory is not of God. If you read the Bible it says:
      Isaiah 43:7 ESV
Everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.”
God doesn’t need us but created us for His glory. I’m only going by Scripture. It’s not about us, it is about Jesus. The whole Bible is about Jesus.
      John 5:39-40 ESV
39 You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, 40 yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life.
