Just got a 2013 XF and was disappointed at how dim the lights were so got some Osram Xenarc Night Breaker Laser D3S bulbs. This video was so helpful. Many thanks.
Thanks for the video. Noticed this evening one of my lights is out. Just ordered a set off Amazon and will attempt it tomorrow afternoon, thanks again!
@@joewoodford9428 Hi Joe, I managed to change the bulb but unfortunately it didn't work :-( I also changed the ballast but that didn't work either. Seems I have a fault with the junction box or a wiring issue. Managed to have an auto electrician work some magic for a temporary fix. I have another car so for now I'll park the Jag up and look at it in the new year,
Great video mate, but just for anybody else who wants to try this it can be done easily with the headlights in situ. Drivers side being easiest. Get your fingers on the securing clamp and twist it, the unit is easy then to get out with plenty of length on the cable, change the clamp over and put the bulb unit back in place and twist shut. NS remove air box and intake parts, loosen air con pipe bolt to give a little wiggle room, also lower plastic clamp. Repeat the light removal as the other side, little tighter but easy enough. Changed oth xenons to LED in 40mins
I have 2012 XF 5L, no idea if before or after "Facelift". Is there any specific difference with the "Facelift" that would require removing bumper (as most references I can find insist you must do). Definitely prefer to try without removing headlamp. How difficult is removing air box and intake for passenger side?
Thanks for this useful video, my bulb has stopped working so replaced it, still not working and checked the new bulb in the n/s light and it works.... so not the bulb!. New ballast unit on order and fingers crossed it's not a wiring/junction problem that a previous poster has highlighted.
Glad it helped and good luck with the repair. Please think to Like the video as it helps in UA-cam, I'd be grateful if you sub to channel as well ! Cheers Joe
You can change the bulbs without removing the headlights. Did mine last night. Fiddly but possible. Passenger side just needs airbox moving out of the way.
No time in my life have I seen entire headlamp assemblies needing removal just for a bulb change. You sir, should have really asked around before embarking on this
I’ve noticed the same on the headlight on my XF. I’d like to do the same upgrade on mine, would u snd me the link of the new replacement light you used.
@KArjun 44, I used www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk, put in your reg and this should bring up the D3S bulb if your XF is the facelift. Please think to like and subscribe if I helped you out :)
@Sha, I'm sorry to say that the LED part of the light is not replaceable only the D3S headlight bulb. I had the same issue with my rear indicator unit, the LED flasher failed and I needed to buy a new light cluster. The LED J lights are integrated into the headlight cluster. It might be possible to get access to the LED strip but you would need to remove the clear plastic lens, that would be a massive job as you need to release the lens from the back black plastic which I believe is glued together. Might be worth looking to pick up a light cluster from a breakers yard or checking out ebay?
For gods sake... Why do they have to make simple maintenance such a pain to do? I don't really rate the performance of my lights, did you upgrade to decent bulbs? I've seen Osram Night breaker bulbs at £180 a pair but want to know if thats a good investment
Might I suggest you stay with stock, the back reflector can get burnt if over hot bulbs are used. That might also be the reason you have poor light from the unit. Check the back reflectors are not burnt, and the only way to fully check is to remove the head lights. I've never checked. See my freelander 2 video on the same issue !!
2 mins in and already regretting doing this myself 🤣🤣
@@seancunningham4462 hope it help you out though!

@ Rob Graham , glad it helped, give it a Thumbs UP if you have not done so yet :)
I am about to buy nighbreakers , is it worth to pay£125 for them?
@@AleksanderP I'm very happy with them. Lovely clear white light. Huge difference from what I had before

Hi, thank you very much because of you i saved some 200 euros thankyou!!!!
@ Dimitri libertini, Glad I could help, it's a bit of pig to get to, but once you have done not too bad.

Glad the passenger side is easier, drivers side is impossible though without taking the light out!
Not impossible, as I said did both with bumper in situ

Nonsense. Happens all the time.
Excellent precise useful video
Looking for to see next part
@Michal Mruk, Its coming! I ran out of time to finish editing - should later today ;)
Glad you think so!
This seems to be involved to change a bulb, can you not do by it taking the inspection covers out at the back of the lamp housing?
No, this not possible, it it had been then I would have do that :)

Sorry not sure, only own an XF. May be check out the Forums?
Why so complicated? I’m selling my car and just buy a Honda 🤦🏽♂️
No idea ask JLR 👍, but at least you know now 😁
