I'm not Liverpool, I'm man united, but what happened at Hillsborough was devastating for football. R. I. P all those who died that day.
What about what Liverpool fans used to sing about Munich do people forget that
@@doctors8966 yes, both man united fans and Liverpool fans can sing bloody horrible songs, doesn't make either right. Both events were very sad, and wouldn't wish them on anyone whoever they support.
@@doctors8966 "BUT LOOK OVER THERE SOME PEOPLE ARE DICKHEADS" - yep, doesn't mean everyone has to be.
Much respect bro from a liverpool fan 🙏
Was there own fault regardless
Just a minor correction. YNWA was the official anthem of Liverpool FC before the Hillsborough disaster but took on an even more poignant meaning afterwards. It was an emotional song already but hearing it with the context gets at the heart even more.
It is sung before every Liverpool game and, as shown by this video, is the common voice between Liverpool fans all over the world
Was going to say the very same, it gets to me every time i hear it too.
Was going to say the same. I’ve stood in various stands and at home in front of tv with my scarf held high and singing. Followed Liverpool as a kid in the 70s although Ipswich was my local team which my dad followed
YNWA was written by Rogers and Hammerstein (1945). However, it rose to be the LFC anthem after it was released by a Liverpool Group called Gerry and the Pacemakers in 1963 (part of the Merseybeat).
Liverpool has a long history of working class entertainers and families creating entertainment for themselves and fellow neighbours etc. so the vocal comradeship at Anfield is an extension of that general Scouse culture. I fondly remember my trips up to Liverpool to visit my family and enjoying the mix of music and comedy.
They stole it from Arsenal
@@BadBoyV1 what? 😂
I am not from Liverpool, live in a little village in the West Midlands, but two young girls, aged 15& 19, lost their lives at Hillsborough...they lived a few doors away from me. Rest in peace Sarah and Victoria.
Baggies
R.I.P those ppl
Bless them they were front pages as they died. I went to the match. Im54 now. Still get nightmares.
The 'man on the banner' was Bob Paisley who was the manager of Liverpool FC in the 1970's and 80's, he took over from the legendary Bill Shankly, the manager that built the club through the 60s into the mid 70s.
The song 'You'll Never Walk Alone' (originally from the Rogers & Hammerstein musical 'Carousel') was recorded and released by Liverpool band Gerry & The Pacemakers in 1964. It was played alongside other pop records before the game over the sound system. The fans took the song as their anthem, and would sing it each game with passion, and have done ever since.
The Hillsborough disaster in 1989 had a huge impact on the club and the city of LIverpool. The ongoing reparations and recovery over the decades only adds to the poignancy and togetherness of the fans, which is evident when they come together, face adversity, or celebrate as you see them doing here.
It was strange that YNWA which had strong ties to Liverpool was used for the Bradford City stadium fire appeal and was replaced with Ferry Cross the Mersey for the Liverpool appeal fund...
Glad someone know their history..im live fazerkly liverpool always...remeber the day well...this is in australia a preseason game
Great job of explaining the origin of the song. I went to the match that day. I was 19. Im 54 now. Still get nightmares.
@@sloan957 Thanks! Sending my Best 🙏
@@rlosangeleskings ferry cross the mersy as u say was a fundraiser song ...but was sung by gerry and the pacemakers...obviously same scouser band that released you'll never walk alone...
Just a little added fact, in 2021 the number of fatalities rose to 97. A fan who had brain damage due to the crush passed away 32 years later, as a result of their injuries. So they added them to the final total.
100% there is a framed Liverpool shirt at Celtic Park with 96 on it, and they were to have it replaced by 97 due to that also.
To add insult to injury too from day one it was spun that it was our supporters that caused the tragedy. But the families etc didn't give up and got justice that everything was covered up and spun falsely. I cried on the day....I cried more for the acknowledgement of the truth. Scouse and proud... always will be a red !!! I dream of the day I can go home, go to a game and be a voice in tears for our song. I've loved this song for ever. Even bought a poster of the gate with the words to hang above my bed. The irony...it was in transit when Gerry passed. My aunt knew Gerry in their youth when they both performed in clubs.
As you hear at the end this game was not even in the UK. This game was in Melbourne, Australia with a crowd of 96,000 people.
It just shows how football & their fans no matter what country they embrace the history of the club good or bad. ♥️ R.I.P 97
Even as a Manchester Untied fan, Can't help but be an awe of this song. I'll never forget when they sung it to Ronaldo after he lost is child. There is an unspoken respect when it comes to Liverpool and United fans. We're United by the Hillsborough 97 and the Busby Babes they'll never walk alone.
As a Liverpool season ticket holder, I couldn't agree more with this comment! We maybe bitter rivals on the pitch but both sets of 'true' supporters understand the heartache and pain both clubs have suffered over the years. For most decent supporters of both clubs there is a unspoken respect in this regard. I know a lot of United/Liverpool fans who echo your sentiments.
And on a side note, those fans who sing tradegy songs (and there are just as many Liverpool fans as United fans) are not true supporters of their teams, as they are asked on many occasions from their clubs to refrain from singing such disrespectful and hurtful songs.
Same and I support spurs boycott the sun
Love your reply bro. I went the game . I was 19. IAM 54 now. sad sad day. still suffer now, seen things i wish i hadnt. YNWA
@@sloan957 Very sorry to hear you were at Hillsborough on that tragic day! Can't begin to imagine what you witnessed, the television pictures look bad enough. Lost a school friend that day, a terrible and preventable tragedy! YNWA
I am not a football fan nor do I live in Liverpool, but everytime I hear Liverpool supporters sing this anthem it makes me cry.
You need to hear this being sung at a packed out Anfield with the Kop in full voice! I'm not even a Liverpool fan but it's still a spine tingling thing to experience.
That day Liverpool were playing against Nottingham forest. The Forest fans stood and watched as this prevailed, they weren't allowed to help in any way. Doctors, nurses, ambulance personnel and Joe Public with first aid knowledge, just standing their watching their rivals crying out for help and they were locked in, watching the horror. My heart goes out to all. The police chief had so much to answer too after blaming the fans. RIP the 96 xx😢
You'll never walk alone has been the Liverpool anthem since the 60's, way before Hillsboro.
The number is 97.
Please don't forget Andrew Stanley Devine who was the 97th.
Every single one of these souls just went to a football match and never came home.
RIP YNWA ❤
❤
It's sung at the beginning of every game...and the supporters sing it at the end to show appreciation...I count myself lucky to have been at Anfield to sing it.....also it is now 97 people who have passed
The liverpool captain Steven Gerrard (the player it keeps showing), His cousin was one of the children killed in the Hillsborough disaster.
My dad's best mate got crushed and my dad couldn't make it due to being sick so he never attended I wouldn't be here today if he went
@CharlieR420 I'm sorry for your dad's friend. It was a tradegy that could have & should have never of happened.
It's despicable that the 97 & their families have never had justice!
“The very youngest” at the age of 10.
God bless the 97 ♥️
@@joshg2603 yea its sad I'm lucky to even be here all because my dad got sick and didn't go
@@nikkileighevans6822 thanks i wouldn't be here if my dad didnt get food poisoning his mate gream didn't make it home to his kids 🙏
This was in Melbourne Australia. You should hear this sung at Anfield on European night.
this sunday is gonna be like a European night i bet ya
You'll Never Walk Alone was adopted by Liverpool Supporters in 1963 when Liverpool Band Gerry & The Pacemakers released thier version of the song. 'The Spion Kop' is a stand at the home of Liverpool Football clubs Stadium 'Anfield' Which is one of the most vocal and loudest stands in world football... all the football greats over the years want to play a game at Anfield just so they can experience the atmosphere. Celtic (Scotland) and Borussia Dortmund (Germany) also adopted this Anthem. It became more meaningful after the Hillsborough disaster in 1989 because of the lyrics, it just fits so perfectly with what happened and what the city went through in the aftermath. The greatest injustice amd cover up by the authorities who told lies to lay blame on the supporters. It took a 25 year fight from the families if those that died and the survivors to clear our name and prove our innocence. The Justice for the 96 campaign was very tough and still those to blame have not been brought to justice or been punished even after they lied about what happened. 96 deaths recently became 97 when a survivor succumbed to his injuries all these years later.
If you ever visit the UK let me know and I'll get you a ticket for a Liverpool match. I worked for the club for 10 years. Thank you for the great videos
This was a hit from the Liverpudlian group Gerry & The Pacemakers during the 60s.
It was originally from the Rogers & Hammerstein musical Carousel.
My brothers are lifelong Liverpool FC supporters, and when we lost my big bro to cancer two yrs ago, his dying wishes were to have everyone either wearing LFC shirts, or something LFC Red, at his funeral and his ashes scattered in the memorial garden for the Hillsborough victims. Which we did.
And a few weeks ago, my little bro, took his 8yr old football obsessed son to see his very first live LFC match and to visit our brothers memorial paving brick at Anfield.
I've never been into football, (heard too many arguments growing up, between my three bros and their dad, on who's the best team! 2 are LFC to the core, and the other is Arsenal, and their dad is Leeds.), but despite not being a footy fan, I do respect the sentiment behind this song, and it always fills my heart to hear the passion the fan sing with.
I've not been to a game (live down south) but I spent a good 10 minutes stood at the memorial when I went for a stadium tour
@matthewlamont3112 We did, too. It was my first trip up there, as we're from Kent, so we wanted to make it a lasting memory.
Too many lives were needlessly wasted that day. It breaks my heart that a fun day out, to see your team in action, could end in such a tradigy. And then to have those to blame denying their part in what happened that day was wrong. All those years fighting in court playing the Shaggy game, aka "it wasn't me!" Making the poor families relive their worst day over and over in court wasn't right. All the families wanted was for someone to accept their part in the tradigy that day.
My heart goes out to the families of those who died that day. And to those fans that survived, had to live through such a shocking day. RIP
When you’re an LFC supporter you feel part of a world wide family. Best team in the world.
In the flag is Bob Paisley, legendary Liverpool manager from 1974-1983, and to date, their most successful.
I was at Hillsborough and it was an event that I'll never forget for so many reasons. YNWA is sung at every match by the fans but home games it's a part of the pre match ritual, at night games it's fantastic but this Sunday's last match for Klopp will be very emotional
the song is from the musical carousel feat shirley jones, then gerry and the pacemakers had a hit with this version in the 60s
I can never listen to this song without tears in my eyes, and I hope i never will forget .
I'm not a Liverpool fan, but remember that day, listening to the news updates as those terrible events unfolded. I think all the football fans of every club where shocked. This could have happened at any ground in that era, that's why they went to all seater stadiums. A very sad day in British football.😪
Liverpool anthem is the best.❤
This atmosphere is unlike ANYTHING you will EVER experience and this tribute makes it more electrifying it definitely touches the soul. ❤👊
Im from Sheffield but i was just a baby when the hillsborough disaster happened but its never been forgotten in our city . I pass the ground often and always think of those poor people. We will remember the 96 ❤
I'm originally from Sheffield too and a Liverpool fan. I was home on leave from the RAF at the time and was visiting my Grandparents. We were watching the TV and all we could hear outside were the sirens of the Ambulances heading to Hillsborough. A day I will never forget for all the wrong reasons.
My auntie was a radiographer at Hallamshire, and she’s told us how awful it was in the hospital that day too.
in a lifelong Liverpool fan. YNWA was sung before Hillsborough. I've experienced being at Anfield, in the Kop, singing YNWA. I always have goose bumps hearing it. I lived in Anfield in various times in my life. My mum and her family are from their. My mum passed away 13 years ago and we played YNWA at her funeral
Liverpool fans have sung YNWA since the mid 1960s, when the song was number 1 in the charts. Its sung before every home game, and usually at the end, particularly when we win. The song took on extra poignance after the hillsborough disaster, but was sung for 25 years before that fateful day
I've supported Liverpool from the nineteen fifties!! This song is OUR anthem since the sixties!! It's sung every game, home or away!! The fans truly get emotional every time. When Hillsborough was fresh in our hearts this song meant more than it ever had. We still miss those ninety seven fans and we always will. ❤❤YNWA
I’m 72 and it still brings tears to my eyes 🇬🇧
There is a drama called Hillsborough that shows what happened from the families' points of view and how horrendous it was. It's a hard watch but captures the tragedy and the human loss. Yes, we all cry when we hear this song.
I lost a school friend at Hillsborough that day , everytime I stand at Anfield and hear this I get goosebumps everytime, it really is a special song and hearing it sung by thousands hits emotions every time ❤ YNWA ❤
I'm English living in Canada...but this makes me so incredibly proud of my heritage.
I've liked the video, but i can't listen to it love. I'm a Newcastle supporter, but my husband and his whole family, are Liverpool through and through. They played YNWA at his Mam's funeral, and i played it at his. I gave him a red coffin weaved in willow, it had the Liverpool badge on it, and the inside was yellow satin, for the flames and the fact he used to give me yellow roses all the time. I dressed him in his Liverpool shirt, from the 2019/2020 league winning season. Every time i hear the song, it has me in tears, it breaks me, in fact I'm tearing up writing this.
Ynwa
I'm so sorry for your loss
YNWA ❤😢
YNWA
So y write it then, You’re not the only person to lose someone and I lost two people at Hillsborough. I don’t mean to sound harsh but you saw the title, this song means absolutely everything to some people myself included.I lost my beloved family members in a horrible situation like many others did. No offence meant for the loss of your husband but this isn’t about u or me it’s about everyone
Thanks for this, my friend. Liverpool first sang this, at every game,in 1964 so 25 years before The Hillsborough disaster. THey sing it before and, often, amongst many other songs and chants, through the game,as well. This was TEN THOUSAND MILES from Liverpool with 95,000 fans there. Liverpool have 80 Million worldwide fans and,as he said at the end, this was o the other side of the World in a Pre Season Friendly in AUSTRALIA:)
JT..If you have just got goosebumps or chills watching that then your body & heart just told you that you are a Liverpool fan.. I've been a fan for 40yrs & still get chills listening to this 😢
this hits different
They also released a new version of this song during the pandemic, hoping to lift up the spirits of people even a little. It featured Captain Tom Moore who raised 33 million for the NHS by walking quite a few laps around his garden before and during his 100th birthday.
They couldn't get out of the stadium, JT - because the emergency exits behind had been chained shut to prevent people getting in without a ticket - and the crush arose from those at the back panicking to climb over the fences at the front, that had been erected to prevent pitch invasions - and despite the police advising everyone to stay where they were... I remember watching the news that evening - and it was one of those occasions when there just was no other news, save for two or three headlines read out at the end and then - just as the credits started to come up, there was a aerial view from the central lantern tower of Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, where an ecumenical Requiem Mass was being held... Naturally, there wasn't a square inch of floor space that was unoccupied - it was as if the entire city had packed in there that night - and they were all singing, "Abide with Me," with just the same fervour. I imagine tears would have flowed from the eyes of the entire nation, that night.
And on a happier occasion, as the late Queen Elizabeth II and much of the Royal Family stood on the balcony of Buckingham Palace at the end of the celebration weekend for her Diamond Jubilee in 2012 - but without Prince Philip who'd been admitted to hospital as a precaution the day before; parts of the crowd in The Mall burst into the chorus of 'You'll never Walk Alone'... Although Prince Philip was found to be in good health on that occasion and was back home with her the next day, I just felt so proud to be there and to be British at that point - telling, and gently reassuring our much-loved Queen that whatever happened, she'd never walk alone. Needless to say, I cried on that occasion, too!
Loved reading that about YNWA being sang on the Mall for the Queen at her jubilee in 2012. Was this recorded or documented in anyway? I searched UA-cam but nothing there. Was it one of them moments that you had to be there? Genuinely love to hear more about this… 😊
@Tom89911 Yes, that was the jubilee where they had choirs leading lots of singing which was played over the PA system; and it was one of many songs that had been used earlier. This was in just a part of the crowd waiting for the final balcony appearance when the National Anthem was sung and seemed to be fairly spontaneous. I've not seen any online footage of it - I guesstimate cameras were focused on different areas at that time.
You’ll never walk alone is sung by Celtic fans too. It is actually from the musical “Carrousel”. It is a very emotional song 🥺🥺🥺
Yes, they took it home with them after playing Liverpool in (I think) 1966. It's a song you can't help but feel. Especially at the footy.
@@JacknVictor spot on 👌
I tear up everytime I hear it when I'm at Celtic Park. Played at my dad's funeral too.
@JacknVictor Liverpool stole it from Arsenal Originally, then Dortmund stole and sang it better.
@@BadBoyV1 no they didn't lol do your research
The song was American and the stadium was the MCG in Australia, but none of that matters it all came together to show how Liverpool FC is loved world wide.
i have one thing to say JT, thank you, for the respect, knowing about the 96, i know you did a reaction, but putting this on your channel, and the respect and your words, to football, what it means, no matter who you support, what team you support, a true football will sing this, in honour of the 96, we have our own teams, but still respect the game and the fans, as you said, football is in our blood, your dont pick a team, your born to a team, through good and bad, wins and losses, we dont change our support
You'll never walk along was sung a long time before the disaster but they dedicated to the disaster after it happened on the flag was Bob Paisley an ex manager it's sung before every home game
Liverpool had 'adopted' the song way before the disaster. It was no.1 in the British charts in 1963, and Gerry and the Pacemakers who sang it were from Liverpool. I can vividly remember that day, it was a Saturday and suddenly there was chaos all over the tv, I couldn't believe what I was seeing, absolutely horrible. The police were blamed for bad policing but the Liverpool fans stampeded into the ground as soon as the gates were opened. The song makes me want to cry every time I hear it. A terrible tradgedy.
It's the genuine emotion of the fans that makes it so special
2:27 the person on the flag is Bob Paisley. So the history of Liverpool Football Club revolves around a handful of special men. More so than any other football club. The first is Bill Shankly who took over the club when we were in the second division and pulled us out of it and made us champions of England and brought us our first ever FA Cup in 1965 back when the FA Cup was bigger than the league itself. He would win us 3 leagues, 2 FA Cups and the UEFA Cup (Europa League) which was our first European trophy. He literally transformed the landscape of the club from second division mediocrity to having a championship pedigree that remains to this day. He was the foundation. When he stepped down his right hand man, Bob Paisley (man in the flag) stepped up as manager and took us to the next level. He built on what Shankly had done and delivered us 3 European Cups (Champions Leagues) as well as 6 league titles. Shankly pulled us out of the depths of obscurity and showed us how to win. Paisley covered us in European glory.
You'll never walk alone has been sung since the club adopted it back in the late 60's when it was released by Gerry and the Pacemakers.
Thank you for reacting to this event in such a thoughtful and empathetic way💖
The song was in the movie "Carousel" sung by Shirley Jones. There's also an amazing rendition of it by the Righteous Brothers and many others. This video is so stirring - it brings me to tears every time.
Hi JT, I'm pretty sure that the man at 4.01 (and further along) is Trevor Hicks. He and his family were at Hillsborough on the day of the disaster, his Daughters Sarah 19 and Victoria 15 sadly lost their lives that day and he has been a leading campaigner for justice ever since.
Really sad. He’s been part of Hillsborough Families group that fought for justice.
I am so grateful that they didn't give up. Doesn't change what happened but proved "we" weren't at fault. I cried on the day and cried when justice was delivered. My heart has always gone out to those directly affected and everyone in the stadium that witnessed it.
Liverpool fans were singing You'll Never Walk Alone long before Hillsborough. It became the unofficial anthem on the Kop in the 1960s when it was recorded by Liverpool band Gerry and the Pacemakers.
Im a scouser{liverpool born} . This song was being sung since 1965. Its Gerry and the pacemakers. It was sung before the Hillsborough match. I went to that match aged 19 . Im 54 now. Love for the song is older but no more true than the 15th april 1989. It was bad but the song rings true. YNWA. youll never walk alone. My Team. MY Life.
You'll never walk alone has been sung at lfc games since 1963 and is sung at every liverpool game home and away. Goosebumps everytime i hear it . Y.N.W.A
This is one of those songs that gets you emotional even if you're not a football or Liverpool fan. Every time I hear this it brings a tear to my eye❤
Christine Johnson sings the song in the film "Carousel", The older you get ,I'm in my 80s the tearier this particular song gets, watch the film it is part of your heritage in a way
Im a liverpool fan born and raised in liverpool this is my life song gives me goosebumps everytime i hear it and being in the stadium while we sing it os second to none!
I dream of coming home to a game to sing and cry. I will make sure to go the the memorial outside and pay my respects, it's on my bucket list. This song has made me cry for years even before that day. YNWA and Ferry bring on bouts of home sickness. I always say you can take me away from the Mersey but you can't take the Mersey out of me. Liverpool and Merseyside (since I'm a Wirral girl) will always be home. The waterfront, Three Graces, are still my favorite skyline on the planet. I don't want to see the world, I dream of touring the UK all the places I've been and the ones I never have. Been outside the Cavern but never inside.
Thats passion . 12 000 miles from their home ground and thats the reception they get . Incredible.
As a Liverpool fan (live in SE England), thank you for watching it. As the song always brings tears to my eyes.
I was a 16 year old boy when I went to Hillsborough and got crushed in the Leppings Lane End and it haunts me to this day. 97 dead (the 97th victim died after 30 years in a coma). You'll Never Walk Alone has been our anthem since the 1960s. This version was sung by 95,000 Australians at the Melbourne Cricket Ground when Liverpool played a pre-season friendly in 2014.
I cry every time I sing this at Anfield ❤ YNWA
You'll Never Walk Alone is also the club song of Borussia Dortmund. It's magical when the teams meet and they sing the song together.
97, Andrew Devine 2021, never forget xx

it was sad not gonna lie but also you've gotta watch the helicopter crash of leicester city's chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha.
He was leaving from a leicester city game of which we played West Ham
The accident/ crash was at the rear of the stadium
He did loads for leicester including winning us the league, and donating money to the local leicester royal infirmary hospital
if you see this message please like the post so he JT can see it
Im not asking for likes for getting him to see it for my sake but its definitely worth a watch
There was also members of the royal family who came and layed flowers at the scene
From a LCFC supporter
RIP Vichai
Your reaction would make the whole of Liverpool proud of you. I have seen many others reaact to this song but none have done a tribute to the victims of that day, let alone one so heart felt. It proves what many of us already knew, that you have a big heart and you wear it on your sleeve. You should watch the video that was shown as a thumbnail when it ended. Its in black and white on purpose and has ordinary people of Liverpool singing it but its Gerry Marsdens voice of the original recording you hear, its very touching. I was in tears too.
The youngest fan whi died at that tragic Hillsborough match, was just 10 years old. The oldest fan who died there was 69.
Across the fandom of all teams, we felt their loss and the other 95 too.
💔Rest In Peace.💔
Thankyou for Reacting to the disaster JT, _and_ such performances as this, of this song too. 😥❤️🏴😥❤️😥🇬🇧❤️😥
JT: Something messed up, I dont know how"
UK: "The police messed up, It was the police"
This brings back memories sitwith me grandad waiting for the footie to start he was a huge Liverpool fan and always played that song we played it at his funeral I love hearing this song
I was there at the MCG in Melbourne with both my sons singing. 95,000 fans singing it was the most memorable Football game I have ever been too.
The song is from the musical Carousel. It is the last song of the movie/musical. Movie came out in 1956.
I think I speak for many Brits here when I say no matter what club you support, this is one of those songs/anthems that will always send chills to most football fans no matter who you support. I’ve followed football for 20 years plus and this always always always gets me, especially on the bigger occasions/matches
Liverpool fans are the greatest in the world they cannot be beaten. God Bless them all.
The guy on the flag was Bob Paisley, probably the most succesful Liverpool manager of all time. He was in Charge for 9 years and won 14 major trophies during that time.
This is in Australia. You`ll Never Walk Alone is really special when it is sung at Liverpool`s stadium Anfield.
Im a Liverpool fan living in Leeds and years ago when i was in my 20's i had the honour of being in the most amazing stadium in the world ( Anfield ) ..... there's nothing like a packed Anfield singing together as one!!! I was friends with a lad who was at Hillsborough and he was never the same after that day ..... he was in pieces every day but especially on the day of Hillsborough 😓
I'm a 58 year old and a liverpool fan and it still gives me goosebumps ❤
On the flag is Bob Paisley. You'll Never Walk Alone is our song have a look on here at Snfield singing our song to everyone who is loved in our Liverpool family. The 97 . There loved ones are our family and we stand with them.
Leicester fan here, You will never walk alone is one of, if not the best football anthems ever
Hi, im a Liverpool FC Season ticket holder so i go to all Liverpool Home Games every year and they sing youll never walk alone before everygame. I get goosebumps everytime. Its just unreal every game i go to. It never disappoints in atmosphere. On the flag at the start was Bill Shankley one of the greatest Liverpool managers in history. Thanks Ben
Not a Liverpool fan (Man Utd) but I've been to Anfield Liverpool's home ground and it is awesome to hear and you just have to join in. Brings a tear to my eyes every time. Many years ago it was the anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster and they had a minutes silence at Man Utd's ground and you could hear a pin drop. Our biggest rivals but big respect for their fans they don't forget and neither should any of us.
No better feeling than being at Anfield, in the Kop & this being sung. The first time I got to experience it I balled like a baby😂
It's really difficult to sing your heart out and bawl.... I dream of getting to be in the stadium and doing both. I don't care if I'm in the furthest seat with the crappiest view of the game...I just want to be there, be in the crowd and be part of the choir. I will do it, one day.
Gets to me everytime I hear the song, no matter where I am, the tears come out 😢
A bit of background to the song: I was originally made for the Rogers & Hammerstein musical Carousel in 1945 the in 1963 Liverpool based band, Gerry and The Pacemakers covered it and it was a chart hit. Then Liverpool fans began singing it at matches, it has been the LFC Anthem ever since. I always liked the song but after Hillsborough it just hit harder.
Glasgow Celtic also adopted it and Borussia Dortmund from Germany also sing it (I'm not sure how often though). I'm sure there are others
Edit: According to Wiki numerous German and Dutch teams (among others). There's even German and Croatian Ice Hockey teams
I dont want tomorrow to come man Jürgen Klopp our manager for 8 years is leacing the club😭😭 its never going to be the same without him 😭
You'll Never Walk Alone is not just for Hillsboro'. The song comes from The musical "Carousel", Liverpool Fc have been singing it from at least the 1960's when Gerry and the Pacemakers a top Merseyside group had a hit with it. They also had a hit with "Ferry 'cross the
Mersey", which is played on our ferries. The greatest ever "You'll Never Walk Alone" is probably to come on 19th May when we have our last game of this season, and the last for our "beloved" manager Jurgen Klopp, he is leaving us after 9 year's. He is the greatest manager and man. Klopp is an honorary Scouser.
When the song ‘you’ll never walk alone’ was released by Gerry and the Pacemakers it charted at number 1 and before the game, the UK top 10 would be played and once the song was out of the top 10 fans requested that it was still played and became Liverpool’s anthem but took on more meaning with the footballing disasters which happened in the 1980s, most prominently Hillsborough but also Heysel as well (which shouldn’t be forgotten)
This anthem was a Gerry and the pacemakers song who were from Liverpool back in 1965 and was sung from that year on by the fans on the spion kop , The match i saw Live and was one of the worst days of my life , you didnt know what was happening untill the Liverpool keeper went behind the goal to tell the police to open the gates onto the pitch . The song became more true after that day RIP to all who died
98,000 people not all Liverpool fans but all united by the spitit and ethos of this song. Remember Hillsborough and Youll Never Walk Alone
As someone from Liverpool and a Liverpool fan who goes the matches we do sing it before every home game, but the anthem YNWA was created years before the Hillsborough disaster, but it’s still very emotional
As a Liverpool fan, thanks for this! It’s beautiful
I think then poignancy comes from the events of Hillsborough. It was always sung before that, though.
What gets me, is the meaning of the song in 'Carousel' the musical. A father who'd passed, trying to convey a message of hope to his child in spirit.
Which, she picked up on eventually during her graduation, and then managed to join in unison with everyone around her to sing along.
Basically, no matter what troubles fall upon you, you can still unite with others, you can still hold on to hope. Better days will always be ahead.
Hillsborough, or not, this is an apt anthem for a great working class city like Liverpool.
I'm not a Liverpool fan but I will always "walk on through the rain".
I find it difficult to put into words the impact Hillsborough had on me. I'm not a Liverpudlian yet watching on TV as events unfolded, at what should have been a sporting occasion, really got to me. YNWA really has taken on a life of it's own in the years that followed. If you do ever get chance to visit the UK, Liverpool is a must. Warm and funny people, musical history is astounding, great nightlife. Much more so than that, is the sense of loyalty and holding together that scousers have. YNWA encapsulates that perfectly. This weekend will be their managers last game in charge. I can envisage a heart rendering yet glorious version of YNWA from the supporters pre game. RIP to those unfortunate to have passed on that fateful day, condolences to those relatives who are still around. I'm English so I'm well aware of the disgraceful political and journalistic events that followed. YNWA lads and lasses.
The video is Liverpool on tour in Australia at The Melbourne Cricket Club ( MCC ) because the ground holds 95,000 people , the club they are playing was Australias champions , most of their supporters were Liverpool fans so had their Liverpool shirts on , lhe Australian supporters had their home colours on ( 200 , Black and White shirts ) .
All the grounds in Asia were sold out like this one , but smaller capacity .
You should watch a Celtic v Liverpool match, they both sing the song. It's amazing to see 70,000 people singing you will never walk alone.
The song You'll Never Walk Alone was first sung by the Liverpool fans in the mid 1960's - the song was recorded by the Liverpool group Gerry and the Pacemakers and was adopted by the famous 'Kop' which was then a standing only section behind one of the goals - this clip shows it being sung by 96,000 Liverpool fans living in Australia, some 12,000 miles away and it's awesome!! - it is sung at Anfield at every home game a it's truly an amazing sight, with nearly all the the opposition players witnessing an experience they will never forget - however since there Hillsborough disaster the song has taken on even more significance and is so special to all the people of Liverpool - in fact it's the most played song at funerals.
The player you see a 4.57, is Steven Gerrard. He was Liverpool Captain, he was a young lad at the time of Hillsborough disaster, his cousin died in the tragedy.
My ex was at that game on the forest side, he helped people on the pitch. It affected him. That badly he's never been to another match.
Liverpool born n bred with family in laws n friends massive fans we live by that song. It is the Red Men’s song I think “borrowed” from a very old film and its song twice at every match. My brother in law and works friends were there either being pulled up or pulling people inc kids up at Hillsborough. Watching it live on tv was horrific . My sister’s birthday too so no celebration that day. Not even biased , you’ll never find a better more emotive football song…just sayin.👏👏💔💔❣️ ps thanks for sharing it , still cry watching that 👍🏻
It gets me every time. I feel proud of each and every one.

I'm a huge Liverpool fan. I remember it happening afterwards my mum and I went to the football ground to lay flowers, hats
YNWA is sang at every game home or away just before kickoff and the last 2 mins of the match. It's not about Hilsborough, it's been sang at Anfield since 1963 and written and composed by Rogers & Hammerstein for theatre in 1945 and then brought into the mainstream charts by Gerry & The Pacemakers(Local Liverpool Band). The man on the flag was Bob Paisley, our most succesful manager ever. Even thought he was our most successful he was part of what was known as The Boot Room which was started by Bill Shankly when he took over as manager in 1959 when liverpool were in the 2nd division of football and brought them to the very top. Bob Paisley, Joe Fagan and Ronnie Moran made up the main part of the boot room boys as coaches under Bill Shankly and they all succeeded each other as succesful managers besides Ronnie Moran who besides a few fill ins as manager was the teams greatest ever coach. He stayed with each of the managers and reamined at melwood(training ground) right up until his retirement. He was known as Mr Liverpool and was just as important to our success as the managers he was under. King Kenny Dalglish who was a player for these managers also went on to join their ranks to become another successful manager for us, known as the greatest ever player to put on shirt. Steven Gerrard has arguably been our most gifted ever player and greatest Captain in our history, They all hold their place in our history. Gerrard Houllier followed by Rafa Benitez were succeful in European comps but never managed to get us the league title. Jurgen Klopp just retired a week ago from us and he brought us our first league title in 30 years and changed 30 years of hurt, mediocrity and tainted hope in our heads around and we won everything and he stands alongside those greats mentioned before now as one of our favourite legends and will be missed. Hilsborough happened in 1989 and was blamed on the Liverpool fans and their families names dragged through the mud but there was a major coverup by Yorkshire Police because of how badly they ran the game that day. it was cleared in a court of law a few years ago and the 97 got some of the justice they deserved but they'll always keep fighting till the very end to bring those to justice that lied and blamed them that day. Jurgen and Rafa before him brought us out of those dark days and into the light along with all the families and supporters. Anywho you can tell why this club means alot to us as supporters and I'm not even from Liverpool, I'm Irish. lol....anywho dude, hit me up if you ever have anymore questions on our history. :)
1:12 I am a Liverpool supporter and I cry every single time I hear this song.
