At 4:09 the look on the directors face is just so wholesome. He turns around and is just happy because he’s listening to Mikey play. That look on his face justmade me realize that my band directors probably appreciate me a lot and that this activity of marching arts is more than just “marching band” or walking while playing your instrument, it’s a family, and it’s a lifestyle. Sorry about my little random serious comment. I just got a really wholesome feeling when I saw him smile. 😊
Just so you know. The Blue Devil's drum & bugle corp that I marched every unit, c,b,& A. Plus senior majorettes, plus Raiders, plus Santa Clara Van Guard.. Theybare a Drum Corp. Not a band. Bands are from highs schools and junior highs FYI. THEY ARE AMAZING TOO.
Was lucky enough to do this 3 times as a Blue Devil. 3 times of finals warm ups. 3 last times to hold back that emotion waiting until you're on the field. 3 times to hold back knowing this was the last time for everything with your brothers and sisters. Some of the absolute best memories in my life.
Oh, as a norwegian i love this, we have some great culture around marching, and in a couple years i will take my military service in the royal marching band. Will be great, also, favorite performance from blue devils has to be their 2017 metamorph
It means - in the last chord, a trumpeter went for a High concert Bb ("Double C") and when they release you can hear them hanging over, but instead of a high C they hit a partial one wholestep lower. in the context of the Chord they are playing that note is a Flat 7, or b7 which implies dominant quality making it functionally a V chord or "Five" chord. "Sol Ti Re Fa!" They are making a Major Chord, and on any brass instrument including trumpet when you're blowing a high C, it's easy for the Bb just below to come out instead. It's note in the harmonic series ( same fingering, different note ) That being understood, their two main leads were doubling on solid high concert F's and would probably not want to blow their chops before the biggest show- so that being understood it was a support lead trumpeter who was "Fishing" for high notes, and played a whopping high Ab- which is nice, but it changed the quality of the Major Tonic chord to a unresolved Dominant chord. ( even if you could only hear it for a split second during the release, it's there. ) Anyways, it's super sick playing and I love BD! Their brass line is godly. High Ab's all around!
Well, I'll say this. You've got a pretty good ear sir. All I can say is that it was a pretty cool moment, even for a drummer such as myself, to be there with them right before they finished off another undefeated season. Thanks for the comments!

Certainly a comment that needed to be said and not heard enough by many. Thanks for watching.
That's actually the former Brass Caption Head! John Meehan also stepped back and allowed Chip Crotts to take that spot last year as well.

Where you in metamorph? By far my favorite show.
@@Austin0000 haha. 1990, 1992, 1993 Soprano
@@jessperez1251 that’s awesome, 1993 is one of my favorite shows
came back on this and , cc ( the drum major ) fistbumped me after and i still think of it as the coolest moments ever
The ballad kills me and then brings me back to life. EVERY. TIME.
Great recording of the Blue Devils getting ready !!! Plus I loved the crowds expressions while they go thru with some of the hits. Thank You
My pleasure. It was a really cool moment. Glad to be able to share it with so many people!
3:00 " That release was so clean I could eat Thanksgiving Dinner Off of it "
I would kill to be in that circle man...
It's pretty easy, just show up at one of their horn warm ups before a show. They usually circle up for everyone who's watching.
@@FFloppyhat I love that they do that, Meanwhile Carolina Crown be like
@@justinjohnson4278 The same yes?
Nope, they either warmup 100% privately off-site, or circle up for alumni only.
6:27 the dm giving the kid a fistbump
Never noticed that! Pretty darn cool!
Very cool.
5:28 WOW !!!
You guys are close to being one!!! Go for it!!!
The tuba sound is sooooo so so good like wow
I can't believe it's not butter @4:41
at 6:07 when they release do one of the trumpets play a double Bb or is it an overtone?
idk the notes or whatever but the soloist(s) plays a screamer at the end
@@hunainamjad4408 They’re screaming a Double G, i’m pretty sure the note at the very end is an overtone, it kinda hangs over
@@Daniel-tr9mk oh i'm hearing it now. that's impressive. i don't even play trumpet lol
The drum major almost fell at the end
When did DM conducting become so SMALL?
XD the b7 at the end! Who's gone fishing?
I'm a drummer dude, so you'll have to clarify the question.

6:13 = Lead trumpet playing a high Ab over a Bb Major Tonic Chord.
