@@Automedon2 I would rather say, a Human making the day better for a captive. That was a bright moment in this narrow life i assume. I wish him freedom and I wish him a concert everyday.
If anyone's curious, cetaceans basically hear sound through their jawbone, so sweet Juno there was pressing his snoot against the glass so he could hear better!
I know these whales! The one watching the violinist is Juno (the silly in the background is Kela). I had the privilege of getting to meet Juno up close and pet him, learn about him, and even take part in his enrichment. He absolutely loves humans and is completely fascinated by us, perhaps as much as we are by him. He’s incredibly playful and curious and loves when musicians visit or anyone else he thinks particularly interesting. He’s an amazing creature and I miss him very much, it’s so wonderful to see these videos of him and his friends in mystic. Also for anyone complaining, he and Kela were captive bred. They can’t live in the wild. Mystic Aquarium is not only a haven fir captive bred or rescued animals but a research center - the workers will document his health and behavior as well as Kela’s and use it to help understand and save their wild counterparts. It was also requested that the whale facility become part of the aquarium as Mystic has a rich history with whaling, and because the local Native tribe (the Mashantucket Pequot people) have a love and admiration for whales - whales are sacred to many tribes.
Just like people have different interest, animals have different interest. The others animals were not interested, but look how focused this cute pie was. I was expecting him to move along, but even after the music stopped he stood there. I really love animals. They are so precious and innocent like children.
And then humans are saying animals do not have souls and can't have feelings. At the end, you can be the biggest ingenior of the world, if you do not have compassion and love for humans, animals and the Earth itself, then you are just a stupid human.
@@IamIsaiah144 I don't know about other animals but I can definitely confirm 1000% that cats do not feel remorse or regret , even when you yell and show them the pictures for the insurance claim from their 3 second high-speed catfight. Gotta luv em.
Fun fact: the ‘bump’ on a Beluga’s head is called the Melon and is used to aid in its receiving of echolocating pulses the Beluga or it’s companions may make, so when the Beluga starts pressing its head against the glass it’s akin to a person pressing their ear to a closed door or a wall to hear the other side better, they are really listening keenly!
Yes… The senses of animals are more acute.. I’m pretty sure the beluga heard him play.. ❤ and I think it meant so so much to the wonderful violinist who seems confined to his chair..
His ( the beluga whale ) calm demeanor and the way he slowly moves his head back and forth. Almost like hes playing the violin himself. This whale just stole my heart. Wow. I can feel his emotions or hers. Wonderful. Just absolutely amazing.
In case you were wondering, the man playing the fiddle is Paul Baker of the band Brigid's Cross! The beluga whale is named Juno, and this video was shot at the Mystic Seaport Aquarium in Connecticuit!
@@gregpickett8816 I spoke with Paul this evening. He said what he was playing was an original piece he was working on at the time as well as just riffing the sounds the belugas were making. So, I guess you might call it a duet!
You do realise that is how it breathes right? It leaned forward just so that it could take oxygen. It’s a mammal unlike a fish. But it’s definitely intrigued by the music....
@Joseph Anand ...it's taking oxygen from the glass? also nobody is saying that isn't how it breathes, the person just said that they thought it was cute

@Frost Flower same, maybe you just don't know how to listen. It sounds passionate, I'll give him that, but there's a few slip ups and that really hurts when it's only one violin playing
They're one of the best hear-ers on earth. Their advanced brains specifically evolved for sonar. So he's listening to the music; and even better than we can. Notice the subtle head motions as he follows the changing notes, we do that too..
There’s other comments stating the sound didn’t reach their ears as the medium it’s a different density. I’d like to think they heard it :). Loved the connection there.

LOL, this! At first I thought the beluga wanted a higher view of the violin-playing human, but then I saw the surface of the water, then I was like, oh! it needed to breathe!
Yeah totally mesmerized. That's why nothing about his disposition changed from the time before he started playing, during the playing, or after the playing stopped. Very clear indication that it was mesmerized by the violin and not that you just happened to start playing violin in front of a beluga that was already sitting there staring out the glass.
Rowgue51 it seems your less intelligent and less observant than the beluga! Defo just proves the commenters point of animal emotion and intuitiveness beyond human capabilities. Beautiful!…God has a way with using animals to make us smile…felt the true love and beauty in this video…maybe God was sending his love and appreciation through this man and baluga whale connection…🥰🥰🥰
Belugas use echolocation to navigate their environments. Because of this, their brains process sound like ours process vision. This beluga can actually "see" the sounds the violin makes.
@Alchemist sorry to half piss on your parade, though this evidence isn't directly useful with it not being about a beluga. It is however still about a cetacean: www.researchgate.net/publication/279942430_Diffusion_tensor_imaging_of_dolphin_brains_reveals_direct_auditory_pathway_to_temporal_lobe This proves that atleast dolphins have a direct link between what you complained they didn't or lack of evidence there of. Is this sufficient enough evidence to possibly bring the conversation about to one of, dolphins and whales "might" see echolocation clicks similarly to how we perceive light through our retina. Possibly with less verbal vitriol.... Sheesh.

Almost as though I were in a dream, I found myself being besotted by this one dwarven land whale, as I watched him strum the hair-like fibres of a shrivelled plank of driftwood._ _I've heard many stories about the song of a great whale that fills the open waters of the ocean. They say that a whale is compelled to listen when they hear its tune. Although I have lived within the glass for my whole life, when I listened to the sounds that flowed from the dwarf's driftwood, my mind carried me there. To those vast, open waters._ _I could feel my heart swell and my body sway as the sound of the driftwood continued - as my very spirit was lifted - so too did my body ascend through the water. Higher - and higher still! Slowly, gracefully, wistfully... by the time that I had regained my wherewithal, the top of my head had breached the surface of the water._ _Of course, I was still within the confines of the glass. But for that one peculiar moment in time, I had escaped from this mirrored domain that binds me... I was out there, swimming through that vast ocean... at last, I was home."_ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Edit: Thank you all for over 1000 likes and your wonderfully supportive comments. @@mariaflorenciaalvarez1926 there was a comment that went into detail explaining that these particular whales were captive bred and can’t survive in the wild. It’s a few comments above this if I remember correctly.
Some people don't understand that "dislike" - is supposed to be used to rate the quality of the video. Did it clearly, thoroughly, or entertaining-ly show you what you clicked on to see? Then like the video. If you don't like the *subject* the video covers - don't watch it.
@@KathrynsWorldWildfireTracking The ironic thing is that you are the one that doesn't understand what the dislike function does, many years ago back in the wild west of the web the dislike function was indeed used to rate the quality of a video. Sadly nowadays it is a dislike only visually, it's upside thumb, the red colour and the word dislike all make us 'think' negative connotations within the context but the funny thing is that it does the exact samething as the like button, which is to show user interactivity and increase the chance of the video being recomended to others. To the algorithm like and dislike are the exact same thing. My theory on why there's always dislikes on every video is that there's people out there who also understand that like and dislike are the same thing and therefore dislike video's they like as it does the exact same thing as liking it but with a different colour. Now it's just a click this if the video was compelling enough for interaction button, there's no scale or rating system whatsoever it's only visual emotional based trickery. Actions speak louder then words comes to mind, the dislike button says dislike but it's actions speak the opposite.

세상에서 가장 멋진 관객 벨루가... 어찌 사랑하지 않을 수 있을까요?
If anyone's curious, cetaceans basically hear sound through their jawbone, so sweet Juno there was pressing his snoot against the glass so he could hear better!
Yea, the sad thing is it probably sounds super muffled from the glass, if only there was a room with accoustic transfer in mind
Thank you for sharing this fact. I didn't know that.

_"For one peculiar moment in time, I felt a certain weightlessness overcome me. Almost as though I were in a dream, I found myself being besotted by this one dwarven land whale, as I watched him strum the hair-like fibres of a shrivelled plank of driftwood._
_I've heard many stories about the song of a great whale that fills the open waters of the ocean. They say that a whale is compelled to listen when they hear its tune. Although I have lived within the glass for my whole life, when I listened to the sounds that flowed from the dwarf's driftwood, my mind carried me there. To those vast, open waters._
_I could feel my heart swell and my body sway as the sound of the driftwood continued - as my very spirit was lifted - so too did my body ascend through the water. Higher - and higher still! Slowly, gracefully, wistfully... by the time that I had regained my wherewithal, the top of my head had breached the surface of the water._
_Of course, I was still within the confines of the glass. But for that one peculiar moment in time, I had escaped from this mirrored domain that binds me... I was out there, swimming through that vast ocean... at last, I was home."_
