Many Visitors to The Gambia, (tourism constitutes at least 20% of the country's economy) like to drink beer, and most of them prefer to support the Gambian economy by purchasing locally produced beer as it supports employment. All that will happen now is that expensive beer will be imported which assists economies abroad. Gambians are losing out. Just because the country brews alcohol, Gambians and Muslims from other countries don' t have to drink it. And not all Gambians are Muslims either. People have choices. I don't drink alcohol or fizzy drink so it personally doesn't bother me if there is alcohol or not but I am concerned about the employment levels and the low salaries earned by local people. That is what this is really about. So I hope those who don't want a local brewery in the company are willing to give one of the ex-Banjul Brewery workers a job or financially support their family.
