So far I'm liking the Tri-Stringer in Zones. It's got decent painting power if you time the half-charge right for a wide spread. The slight delay between the bolts landing and then popping does a great job of slowing opponents and forcing them to stay back. Plus you can do a full charge for a snipe if you really need to. Toxic Mist is also good for slowing the enemy approach, and Killer Wail is great for displacement. I'm really liking it.
Yeah. Before release I expected to prefer the reef-lux, but tri stringer feels a lot better now that I've had a few days to use it. It can use its explosions to lock down areas (especially nice in tower control), has high range, and doesn't have a giant laser sight showing people where I'm aiming, giving it a bit of stealth compared to chargers. Not as good at getting kills as a charger but not as underwhelming as I thought. Feels more focused on scaring enemies out of key areas and getting lots of assists. No idea how to play reeflux well though, other than spamming missiles
@@abra_escaped the laser can also be used to pressure people, if players see a laser pointing at them, they will move. So even a guy who does not know how to aim can apply pressure, you can't take the risk as a player by thinking : this charger can't aim so he will 100% miss. Then if this charger pops off and kill 3 guys, they are in a really bad situation
@@abra_escaped reef is a frontline. Use the curling bomb to get in then no charge to paint single charge for damage and full charge if you need a little more range or your feeling lucky. Run speed helps it a lot.
I've noticed that players toiling in the lower ranks often don't understand the role of the team anchor, long-range weapons that apply constant pressure on the zone, stay alive for safe jump positions, and watch/paint flank routes. In B- to B+, the team with the good anchor wins most of the time in Splat Zones. If you're using something like the Hydra or even the Tri-Stringer, don't waddle through the zone unless you see that there's a huge skill or coordination gap between the teams that favors yours... which currently is the case in about 20% of the ranked games I've been in so far. Remember: there's a reason why you get a gold medal for being the most jumped-to teammate! Do the wipeout, don't BE the wipeout!
It does baffle me that so many players in A go for the splats and completely forget or (don't know about an anchor yet, which is understandable). I've tried to play an anchor with a splatling and yet my teammates will Leeroy Jenkins things, get splat, let enemies around or behind me and then I'm getting splat left and right and I can't do anything to stop the enemies except for going back to spawn and singlehandedly try and take out the opponent before they swarm me. I'm using this way to try and get them to go after the team and they ignore it. I've sometimes even been a front line player with the heavy splatling because nobody is making a push or advancing as they should, or because everyone else is respawning.
@@beez1717 I run heavy splatling fairly often myself! It's a fun weapon, although I miss the kit with shower wall... maybe deco will come back in an update? Anyway, the worse thing about long range support is exactly what you mention here: helplessly watching your front line wipe. The reality with that situation is that even if you were on the front line with them, in most cases, you'd just be the last one to fall. Falling back, building special, and defending a counter-attack area is the best chance to turn things around. Even the best players will lose the zone to four specials raining over it at the same time!
I'd love to learn more about competitive gear setups for Splatoon 3. Main power up isn't a thing in this game, so I'm curious to know how that changes optimal builds.
intensify action for better jump shot rng, swim speed is always good, stealth jump and/or quick super jump if you’re frontline, ink saver based on weapon/sub
oh my goodness, thank you so much man - i've been playing splatoon since the first game, but i never got into ranked! it always seemed too scary or complex. i'm considering diving into ranked more often in splatoon 3, so videos like this are invaluable. you're such a good teacher, too! you're clear and articulate. awesome stuff. (p.s. i've been watching since 2015, it's awesome to see how far you've come... every time i listen to sonic music and hear metal sonic's boss fight theme it just reminds me of the tearin' it up series lol)
This is 8 months old but I want to say, yay, same! I also played Splatoon 2 and barely got into ranked, but I'm enjoying Splatoon 3's ranked a lot x3 I hope you're doing too!
thank you for this video! splat zones is so different from other modes for its stationary objective and i’ve always felt that the opponents push back way too easily and I’m not able to defend it very well at all. i’m super hyped for the advanced video for zones!!
It frustrates me that in the C tier, so many players think they physically have to be in the zone to defend it, and will rush in and immediately get destroyed when they could have held back and prevented the enemy from getting close enough to the zone to take it, or take out the enemies making a push. It also frustrates me that in c tier many players would rather get a good KD ratio even though it's not a part of Splatoon at all. The worst part is when someone on your team still plays like it's turf war and inks the rest of the stage and then ignores all the "this way" calls you give you try and get them to work as a team.
I’ve been using Sloshing Machine for zones and something I noticed is that I’m getting more assists than with other weapons I’ve used, so I guess it’s also a great weapon to help your teammates in case they’re in a pinch. Thank you for putting this guide up for us! I’m looking forward to the other modes ones.
Hey dude could you maybe make a guide where u explain how to use the squid roll and squid surge properly if u are able to make a long enough video for this. Would be pretty sick ^^
I’ve been using the Heavy Splatling for my Splat Zone matches, and I really like using it. Which is werid bc I never liked playing the Heavy Splatling in previous games, but the Wave Breaker really helps it for me since I don’t have amazing aim even with motion controls and also less hits needed to kill with its help. It has good painting, good range, good support with the Wave Breaker, sprinkler to help get its special.
So far I'm enjoying the Hydra Splatling in zones. The new booyah bomb and autobomb kit makes it easy to abuse its range and assist your teammates while also giving you great paint coverage options. A booyah bomb followed by a half charge on the splatling is also often enough to overtake a zone by yourself if it's not heavily contested, allowing you to get an instant stop on the opponent's timer whenever you want. Lastly, it remains an effective weapon for punishing any opponent overextensions, and the falloff damage is really good for getting kills against opponents hiding behind barriers too. IMO it's an underrated weapon that should get a closer look.
I find blasters can be key to winning splat zones because a player with great aim and knows when and where to move can act as a complete area denial system by themselves. It makes the enemy afraid to enter from one or two sides and will either cause them to take the obvious route on the other two sides, or team up and try and power through and hope they aren't picked off one by one. The fact some blasters have mines makes it even more interesting because you can always use the mines as a detection system where when they go off, all cover is blown for a player trying to be stealthy. That alone can get that player sniped easily. The issue is that you need a player who is good at blasters or else it will be as if you are one player down. Splatlings are good for splat zones because they can cover an area faster than any other weapon for a short period of time, and also in the right hands they can easily take away escape routes and then get the splat. They suck as the person defending the zone, but they are great for taking the zone. I can't count how many times I've tried to make a push with my team, if they even do make a push at my low level, and then leave me to defend the zone because they saw how high my fire rate is and forget about the need to charge up, and the massive movement penalty you get while charging and firing and the fact that if you need to move you lose your charge entirely.
the splat charger is a great backline for zones in splatoon 3- especially with inkvac. it allows you to defend the zone effectively and support your team even from afar, by defending the zone and removing opponents. plus inkvac lets you precent people from painting the zone and in some maps can cover most or nearly all of the zone. Amazing supporting backline pick
Tri-Stringer is an *amazing* choice for Zones if you’re good at utilizing it properly. The key is knowing how to use partial charges to apply AoE pressure at different ranges, like an Explosher. Your assists / kills against highly damaged enemies can and should be more common than your one-shots, and fully charging the bow every time is what led people to thinking it’s shitty.
I use the bamboozler in Splatzones, the auto bomb kills opponents who are distracted, and forced them to move. The killer wail 5.1 again is used to force the opponents to leave, but I like using it then follow it up with my main weapon to finish the kill very quickly. It also paints very fast and forces people to keep their distance from me. I also tag team with the Splash-o-matic, which my friend uses, and it goes really well.
Been playing since 2015, and gotta say this video hits every mark. Great points are made about good weapons to paint as well as tips for how you could utilize them. Keep it up DUDE👍
I personally use the inkbrush in splatzones because it's covers whole sections of the zone fairly well, and when you need to flank/push your opponents when they're at defending points, you can just zip through their ink and begin sharking.
I would really love to see a "How to play clam blitz in splatoon 3" video, because clam blitz always gives me a really hard time and I can't seem to be able to make comebacks when the enemy team has the lead and not sure how to stop enemy players from throwing clams into my team's goal without getting splatted myself while trying to stop them

I love the advice on what weapons would be good for this mode. In spaltoon 2 i used the basic dualies with burst bomb and tennimisles but since spaltoon 3 doesn’t have that kit I was having a hard time figuring out what weapon I should play with.

lord zarl, if you're out there, please watch this video. im gonna lose A- rank because you inked our entire spawn, every single speck, instead of pushing forward and helping us defend the zone. it was not turf war.
one thing i love doing is baiting with the splash wall, people automatically assume you stay behind the wall when you throw it so they will shoot in that direction or throw a bomb at it. So what you do is throw the wall out and swim to the side, while theyre looking at the wall you can get free shots in.
How to play Splatzones: *INK THE ZONE FOR THE LOVE OF COD* Jokes aside, I’m surprised they don’t have more tutorials, maybe you get one if you don’t have a S2 save file? Good video, nice resources to share with friends are good to have

Hey, i have a question, do you still use airplane mode with ethernet connection to get less input delay? Also, do you use the controller with the cable? Becuase i heard that if you use the cable with the controller you get more delay, but im not sure
Airplane Mode with Ethernet Connection prevents less Controller Interference not input delay (I still do this yes!) I don't use the controller with a cable as that does add 1 frame extra input delay.
@@ThatSrb2DUDE thank you. Maybe its just me, but when i use airplane mode it feels like my motion controls are different and inconstinstent. Anyways thank you again for replying.

If you are using the 52. Gal, you want to push up with your killer whale 5.1. I simple killer whale from far range is easy to deal with, but if you pressure them, least you’ll get is a trade.
Flingza and bloblobbler are my faves for zones at the moment. Ink storm is hard to counter without range or patience haha. 3 ink recov + 2 ink saver main = I put the pain in painting 🤡
Can you make a video on how to play octobrush on linear maps? I usually try to play brush as a flanking weapon, since it seems to lose in head on battles. However, on some maps there doesn't appear to be ways to approach the enemy besides head on, especially if the enemy team inks into your base. Could you explain how to play brush in these scenarios?
Man I got into A today and I got absoluetly bodied. I lost 13 games in a row. In B I won 3 series with 5 wins in a row. The difference kind abaffled me
As someone who only plays regular battles, salmon run, and splat zones…all I’ll say is that if your team is in control of the zone…and you (or your team) start inking up the enemy spawn so it’s harder for them to reach the zone, essentially guaranteeing the win…we can’t be friends…THIS ISN’T TURF WAR, THERE IS *NO NEED* TO INK THE *WHOLE MAP!* JUST FOCUS ON THE *GODDAMN ZONE!!!* and ESPECIALLY don’t ink the enemy spawn if it’s been some time, and you’re LOOSING, if you manage to take control, good for you, if you can’t, JUST PLAY AGAIN can you tell I just had three knockout losses ( *in a ROW* mind you) due to the enemy team doing this?
I e been playing splatoon 2 for 4 years and this is my first time hearing about the penalty timer lol I would wonder why the main tiner didn't immediately start going down
I main the weapon, but I definitely agree. I hope there's another version of the weapon with a more aggressive special and bomb, but I can see why they gave it the splash wall and killer wail. If you're not missing shots, super good slaying weapon. The killer wail is great for displacement of chargers or any other more stationary weapon type and the splash wall makes for great bait but it can protect you and your teammates to some degree. Personally though, I think the jet squelcher is OP. They practically nerfed it by giving it that awful pointer thing and the vacuum special. Sheesh...
As a big fan of your channel, my main recommendation is to remind you all to go outside. I know we all love this new game and want to both grind ranked and help others get better, but sunlight is pretty healthy. Speaking from experience
So I have been shaping my play style as a mobile harasser that dies very little or none at all. I am definitely not a front liner. I had a lot of trouble on my first attempt at anarchy and immediately lost 3 games in a row. Any advice for someone who likes to flank and run from groups of enemies? So far I have been switching between Aerospray and N. Zap.
Zones used to be my favorite mode but now it is my least favorite. I feel like the matches are so one sided. Once a team gets a strong grip on the map it feels like a lock. I feel like I play so many games where one team wins by knockout from 100 to 70 points. Games feel one sided.

Lol I haven’t even gotten to play zones on this game yet because every time I get on to play ranked it’s not in rotation
Bro thank you so much, I have been playing ever since the first game but I just cannot get past normal C rank it is so full of people not knowing what to do
Thanks soo much for the content. I feel like I remember seeing your name when I was on splat2, you wiped the floor with us 😅
How to play splat zones: Use Flingza Roller and vertical flick towards the point.
lord zarl, if you're out there, please watch this video. im gonna lose A- rank because you inked our entire spawn, every single speck, instead of pushing forward and helping us defend the zone. it was not turf war.
Eager for the Rainmaker video. Need to tell people about when and when not to pick it up.
Thank you very much !!!
Could you do clam blitz next? I don’t really understand as I completely skipped splatoon 2
one thing i love doing is baiting with the splash wall, people automatically assume you stay behind the wall when you throw it so they will shoot in that direction or throw a bomb at it. So what you do is throw the wall out and swim to the side, while theyre looking at the wall you can get free shots in.
How to play Splatzones: *INK THE ZONE FOR THE LOVE OF COD*
Jokes aside, I’m surprised they don’t have more tutorials, maybe you get one if you don’t have a S2 save file? Good video, nice resources to share with friends are good to have
I ain't touching rank this month. Even first 3 months if needed.
Yup. Play Salmon Run instead. 🙂
@@1JAM229 salmon run and turf war
I'm new so my aim isn't that good yet
@BlueFireDemon44 if you struggle with aiming the story mode is a really good way to practice, there’s a lot of levels about hitting targets that help with aim
@@geet9830 it isn't that bad but isn't that good eather. I mostly got around 10 splats at turf war with dapple dualies. Painting goes pretty well too.
Hey, i have a question, do you still use airplane mode with ethernet connection to get less input delay? Also, do you use the controller with the cable? Becuase i heard that if you use the cable with the controller you get more delay, but im not sure
Airplane Mode with Ethernet Connection prevents less Controller Interference not input delay (I still do this yes!)
I don't use the controller with a cable as that does add 1 frame extra input delay.
@@ThatSrb2DUDE thank you. Maybe its just me, but when i use airplane mode it feels like my motion controls are different and inconstinstent. Anyways thank you again for replying.
@@ThatSrb2DUDE I never knew this, have you made a video on this yet?
@@littleguystar yeah, its like a 2 years old video. Just search "thatsrb2dude splatoon 2 motion control input fix" and you should find it (the title of the video is not what i wrote earlier)
I have one thing I'm concerned about. When the Splat Zones match starts, I ink the floor, but then the enemy team immediately appeared! I tried to stop the enemy team, then my teammates and I got wiped out! I always worry about the Ranked mode objective
Can you do a strat guide for different maps?
The difference kind abaffled me
Reeflux is great if you can hit your shots
I know tenta brella and heavy weapons can be good in rainmaker
i was great at SZ in splat2 but maaaannnnnnn im ass in this one lol
i need some alternate sets of weapons lol
What do you use. If you use 52 I cant help you
THANK YOUUUUUUU
Essays are tough, hahan~ 4:16
I love my sloshing machine, it’s just very fun and good
Also is burst cancelling still in this game?
My favorite mode, I use Hydra Splatling taking advantage of the booya bomb
Yoooo vid came out 2 minute ago
me watching this video as if i haven’t played for 7 years: interesting.
Great video
I wonder if he can play with the REEF-LUX 450
Today I found out that the Reef-Lux 450 has actually insane turf coverage
As someone who only plays regular battles, salmon run, and splat zones…all I’ll say is that if your team is in control of the zone…and you (or your team) start inking up the enemy spawn so it’s harder for them to reach the zone, essentially guaranteeing the win…we can’t be friends…THIS ISN’T TURF WAR, THERE IS *NO NEED* TO INK THE *WHOLE MAP!* JUST FOCUS ON THE *GODDAMN ZONE!!!* and ESPECIALLY don’t ink the enemy spawn if it’s been some time, and you’re LOOSING, if you manage to take control, good for you, if you can’t, JUST PLAY AGAIN
can you tell I just had three knockout losses ( *in a ROW* mind you) due to the enemy team doing this?
I e been playing splatoon 2 for 4 years and this is my first time hearing about the penalty timer lol I would wonder why the main tiner didn't immediately start going down
Are dualies a good pick?
Not me just finding out that you need to shake the Fizzy Bomb 😭 thank you
I think 52. Gal is OP. Convince me otherwise
Sheesh...
Where can you find the instructions o. How to play the rank game modes in the game?
I love how seemingly no one knows how the penalty system works in splatoon lmao
Hi dude
Does slosh machine go through the ink wall sub?
I'm really curious.. does WIPEDOUT Increased your respawn time or does something else?
commenting for the algorithm
As a big fan of your channel, my main recommendation is to remind you all to go outside. I know we all love this new game and want to both grind ranked and help others get better, but sunlight is pretty healthy.
Speaking from experience
It's a rainy day over here where I'm at haha, but the sentiment remains still!
i'd love to, but im currently in an area with an unhealthy amount of smoke :( very important to take breaks regardless!
Zap.
THANK YOOOUUU 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Zones used to be my favorite mode but now it is my least favorite. I feel like the matches are so one sided. Once a team gets a strong grip on the map it feels like a lock. I feel like I play so many games where one team wins by knockout from 100 to 70 points. Games feel one sided.
RainmAker next please
Thanks.
