IU had a very difficult childhood, her family was very poor and she had to live with her grandmother for a while, almost got homeless. That probably explains the emotions she can put in her songs, even at such a young age @Johan Moon

IU was definitely more mature than she's supposed to at her age. She kept most of her dance team and managers till today and has her own management for her own team. I think her songs always impresses me by how much they play with your emotions. You&I is my favourite IU song of all time and the choreography version of it is something you can consider watching because the dance moves followed the lyrics perfectly and beautifully. Thank you for the reaction. Part 1 has many of my personal favorites and I look forward to part 2 (where more modern songs are, that you probably appreciate more) .
To add some information, her only demand before she re-signed her contract to the company was giving her staffs employment security and pay raise for all of them. In my opinion its both ways that she kept her team and her team also want to work with her 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I will never forget the day i found IU. I was a small teen in 2010. I was watching Kanon Wakeshima’s MVs for the songs she did for Vampire knight, and in my recommendations was IU’s Mia. The MV was so beautiful that when i first saw it, i didn’t even realize it was in Korean🤣 I saw everything she had on youtube at the time, thinking she had similar concepts. But this song will forever be one of my all time favorites. Followed her ever since. She was my first stan 😭💕
I think early on her company wasn't sure how to really market her or play to her strengths. As you progress you'll see as she takes more control over her music the quality just gets better and better. Lilac is probably my favorite pop album in any language from at least the last 10 years

So her company changed the concept to more fitting for teenage idol. She became popular with Nagging however not until 2010 with Good Day that her popularity blew up. Then the rest is history. She took full control of her music starting 2015 her first written and composed album Chat-shire.
This was such a fun time! Glad you're checking IU out. Fun fact, I'm pretty sure for all these songs, Friday is the only one that IU wrote herself. 2015-onwards (which would be part 2 of this) is when IU starts actively spearheading the development of her albums (especially writing the lyrics). That's when you'll start to see the music she herself wants to make.

Great video! I really appreciate IU's early music (I particularly love You & I, Lost Child and Good Day) but the music that I really connected to from her has been everything she released from Modern Times era onwards when she started getting more involved in the creative process. She didn't write her lyrics at the beginning of her career, but since the Chat-Shire album in 2015 she now writes the lyrics for basically every original song she releases (and wow is she a great writer). She has also composed some really great songs too. It'll be interesting to see what you think of her more recent music, I look forward to part two!

😁 When u said that most of her MV looks old timey, it is true. IU herself loves retro stuffs and musics, so she ended up having 2 remake albums of oldies korean songs (the last song here is one of them). Some of her closest friends also described her as an old soul.

And her 3 level high notes is not included in their initial guide line for that song and her composer and she playfully sang that level up high note and that works so they planned to put 3 level high note... I really want you to react part 2 as soon as possible since the older she is, the sweeter her voice and become more beautiful in her lyrics. And pls her live performance too like her Melon 2017 stage and her debut song Mia that she sang in her concept and more... Thanks in advance...

While I'm way more well-versed in her newer releases, IU is my favourite solo artist ever - the Palette, Love Poem and Lilac albums are all masterpieces, and songs like Secret, Good Day, You&I, The Red Shoes and Holding A Star In My Heart from her older projects are simply stunning. Through The Night, Secret and My Sea are my top three from her discographies, but her music is simply amazing. So happy to see you react to her ❤️
You and I is actually one of the first kpop choreo's I learned, I love the MV, the whimsy is so goooooood The reaction to the high note in Good Day was EVERYTHING lmao that song is so iconic I knew based on the viviz last song for queendom that you wouldn't like the red shoes. 12:55 that was actually the reason her company decided to switch to these kind of genre since the debut song was heavy for a 15yr old and the GP was really not welcoming about it. Good thing they were able quickly catch up on it and the GP was so into cutesy IU.

If you were to compare iu would be as popular as lady gaga, ariana grande, Taylor Swift. Ed sheeran. Nothing against Jennie blackpink or rosie or other groups but I believe its embarrassing that not one American artists is brave enough to work with this talent icon of Korea.
