There was a F-105 Thunderchief squadron with “SH” on the tail. Once their superiors heard that SH stood for “Shit Hot”, they reprimanded them and made them get rid of it. Better yet, the squadron asked for the SH designation, and it was properly granted to them.
      Simply “SH”.

Hi, went to Vietnam in May of 1966, I had three tours there, I was seventeen when I arrived. Back then you could not be drafted under the age of 18, but you could enlist at age 17 if you had your parents’ signature. My mom signed for me, I didn’t have a dad, he deserted my mom, my sister, and me. When I first arrived in Vietnam, I was issued an m-16 fully automatic, I went through some hands-on training before I was assigned a unit. After my initial training was completed, I was assigned to a place called monkey mountain. It was about 2 weeks before I saw any action with the Vietcong, and then all hell broke loose. After that there more attacks, each day, or at least every other day. I was in the TET offensive, and that was absolutely, the most horrible shit, I had ever experienced, I lost 3 of my high school friends there, most people don’t know that when ever one of our soldiers was killed, we would take time and say a prayer for him and his family, another thing most people don’t know, is that there were women that served in Vietnam, and were killed, the youngest person to get killed in Vietnam was a guy that was only 15, you can google it. Anyway I told you all of this, so that you had a full understanding of what went on, once my time was up I came back to the states and spit on, and a raw egg hit me in the face, so tell people that it was not the Vietnam vet that should be blamed, but the politicians on both sides are to blame, like Johnson, and Nixon.

He once told me that the B-52's laid down a trail of destruction that was awe inspiring. If the VC somehow managed to survive the blast then they would find them just laying there still alive but near death due to the shell shock. He was a hero in my book and I'm proud to call him my friend. RIP Chuck and to all the other Vietnam Vets I say thank you for your service.

We could of avoided the war if we simply helped Vietnam become free from France when they were asking for our help instead we chose France because we needed them more than Vietnam at the time because of NATO.
That eventually led to the rise of "communism" in Vietnam and of course the US is against communism so we supported a dickhead(from what I remember) because he wasn't a "communist".

Sorta? You mean, did lose. The United States went in to stop communist insurgents, and left with their tails between their legs while the communists overran the American embassy. That's a loss. Just like Afghanistan. The track record for interfering with the internal workings of other countries is terrible.

    • @SuperGman117

@@texaswunderkind "Tails between legs" heavily implies some sort of military inadequacy, which was nonexistent in Afghanistan, and despite all of the flaws of the US military in Vietnam, also wasn't the case there either. There was no issue with combat. The VC were so grievously battered that they couldn't even replace the losses they suffered (about half of their entire membership) during the Tet Offensive. Furthermore, 70 percent of those who remained weren't even from the south, but from North Vietnam. The fall of the south came after Paris Peace Accords and US withdrawal via a direct invasion through the DMZ by the PAVN (also known as the NVA) from North Vietnam, and took two years to reach Saigon even without facing US forces in battle. The issue was politics, both domestic and foreign. (South) Vietnam was untenable because of the geopolitical situation, not because "hurr durr no meddle in foreign country", and absolutely not because "hurr durr muriken can't fight".
In many ways, the same problem was present in Afghanistan (Taliban and AQ hiding in "neutral" Pakistan, massive insurgent casualties, and the American citizenry not understanding the concept of sacrifice and going ultra-doomer over a war that had killed fewer Americans in 20 years than Omaha Beach did in one hour). Only this time our local allies were completely useless and couldn't even be bothered to fight at all after we left.

We were along the Cambodian border near the Bassac branch of the Mekong and used to listen to the B52’s bomb the shit out of empty rice paddies across the border in Cambodia most nights ….Black Sabbath on the bunker from tape decks….none of the stuff we have now, each night was a musical miracle. I was “doc” the company medic. 72 and still looking down on the daisies.

@@wheelspinproductions9214 To be fair the Vietnam War was actually a major reason why that sense of uniform blandness became pervasive through modern American forces. After the war and American withdrawal/defeat the upper brass basically wanted higher regulation and discipline in the ranks, leading to less of this aesthetic. This is particularly poignant with helmets during Desert Storm, which are few and far between for graffiti.

Being a US Fighter pilot is the most complex job in the world. There is no other profession so complicated and intense in combat. They have like a million moving parts in their head at once. And do math on the fly for say energy management. Speed, velocity, altitude, AoA (Angle of Attack) which is critical. And many more systems to manages within seconds. Being a US fighter pilot is basically god. It does not get anymore difficult than this. And it does not get anymore badass in life than this. It is the ultimate profession hands down. But, only less than the 1% can do it. :)

    Finished with my woman
'Cause she couldn't help me with my mind
    People think I'm insane
Because I am frowning all the time (come on out)
All day long I think of things
    But nothing seems to satisfy
    Think I'll lose my mind
If I don't find something to pacify
    Can you help me?
    Occupy my brain
Oh, yeah (let me see your hands)
I need someone to show me
The things in life that I can't find
I can't see the things that make true happiness
    I must be blind
Alright, let me hear you, come on
Alright, show it then, come on
    Louder, come on
You ain't fucking loud enough, come on
    Come on
    Now I've heard
Louder, come on, put your fucking balls into it
    Alright
Make a joke and I will sigh
And you will laugh and I will cry
    Happiness I cannot feel
And love to me is so unreal
And so as you hear these words
Telling you now of my state
I tell you to enjoy life
I wish I could, but it's too late
    Thank you, good night

I read a story about the B-52s bombing an enemy infantry division in the jungle somewhere, they dropped the bombs from such a height that the enemy didn't even know they were there! Anyway the whole division was wiped out but according to a patrol that found the bodies later not one of them had any visible signs of injury- they were just dead.
Another time the B-52s were about to drop their bombs so they got on the radio to warn any friendlies in the area, well there was an RA-5 Vigilante spyplane flying below them and the backseater heard the radio broadcast but his pilot just carried on flying the route he was already so the backseater says "Hey man we're there!" at which point the pilot very quickly changes course and speed. It was a good job too as the jungle behind them that they'd just been flying over turned into a wall of fire and explosions!
