That solo is one of if not the best in guitar history. Alex is extremely talented at putting so much emotion into it. That guitar is alive and singing with its own voice.
Saw Rush in concert a dozen times or more. My wife was closer to 15 times. The Time Machine tour was the first tour I took my kids to. The opening on La Villa Strangiato was a tie in back to the opening video they used for each evenings show on this tour. Nothing like a 3 hour concert put on by 3 guys that absolutely love what they're doing and want to share their talent with as many people as possible. I cry nearly every time I see a new fan discover their music because they'll never get to experience their talents on a live stage.
Yeah, these dudes are in a class of their own. Rush are always magnificent live though & you can see what incredible musicians they are. It looks effortless but it's incredibly complicated.
My first experience with RUSH was on 2112 the album through my older brother and seeing that tour in LA in 1976. Never missed an album or tour thereafter! BEST BAND EVER!!! THE BEST LIVE ACT EVER!!!
Have seen RUSH twice in their primes in the 80's...seen tours of Exit Stage Left and Moving Pictures, both concerts was excellent! Three top level musicians for sure... Thank u for sharing, gave you a Sub and a Like!
If you'd like to see another "concert in a song," I recommend 2112 as performed at Toronto's Molson Amphitheater in 1997; the way Alex makes love to his guitar in his solo there is classic. 🎤 🎹 🎸 🥁 🎸 🔥 🔥 🔥
Agreed. The whole 2112 song performed live! A must see. Also check out Natural science( lyrics) because the song is just that awesome musically and lyrically. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦!
Most Rush songs are better live but 2112 is one that can never be reproduced as well as the studio version IMO and the animation video is best to understand the story.
This is one of the best songs ever written. Also RUSH are famous for their sense of humor. 3 very silly men. That kinda explains all the stage props. There are stories behind all of it.
There are several versions of La Villa Strangiato to enjoy. Studio version (Hemispheres) Live version: Exit Stage Left Live version: Rush In Rio (with bonus comedy rant by Alex) Live version: Time Machine Tour

This Instrumental was written by Alex Lifeson the guitarist. Listen to it in full, knowing that it was a dream he had as a child. Then the intro will make sense
You need to watch the video of when they did this song early in their career. The version your watching now misses a whole lot of Alex doing a solo at the beginning of the song and it's so great seeing Alex 's talent show through already at an early age. Smiles 😃 from Canada 🇨🇦 🤘RUSH🤘
This is my favorite Rush song ever!!! Another song you guys should definitely check out it Subdivions! One of the band best lyrical works. During the 80’s the band had a major transition of their sound and Subdivisions is the gateway to their 80’s synth style music.
I think this is the least amount y'all have talked during a video...the look of awe on your faces is palpable! Kayla...your face during that early guitar hook is the same reaction all us RUSH fans had when we 1st discovered them...welcome to the family. Eddie...I been telling you about RUSH for years and I love watching your reactions 🤘 enjoy and I love your videos...keep them coming please 🙏
Thank you. Love your reaction. Rush is the major contributor to the soundtrack of my life. You may also want to look into Kansas, The Alan Parsons Project, and The Moody Blues.
Give the lady a prize!!! Neil would wind up writing a steam punk fantasy concept album, which Rush recorded as its 19th and last studio album in 2012. You should listen to Headlong Flight and The Garden from that album, but do the live versions, which were recorded in Dallas.
Rush Spirit of Radio live is awesome too, Getty does sing in that one. Thanks for your reaction. New subscriber here, looking forward to seeing more from you two. Love from Holland Michigan USA
Speaking of "steam punky" their final album Clockwork Angels is set in a steam punk world. It's a concept album, but one of my favorite songs out of the story is Headlong Flight. Maybe at some point, you might want to check out the whole album and the journey it takes you on. Enjoy your reactions✌️
Try 'Greatest Intro Ever' which is live opening to a show leading to 'The Spirit of Radio'. The intro pieces together a lot of the music from their past... Great reaction BTW.
So damn awesome and cool. A Most Powerful Trio. Believe me that Neil knows where every on of those drums are and can hit 'em all like no other could. May he Rest In Peace.
The Exit : Stage Left version is powerful. Jacob's Ladder is also a standout on this album. But try a Natural Science live video and listen to Leave That Thing Alone on Different Stages. It brings me joy to see people appreciate my favorite instrumental in the whole world and every time I watch some videos from them live, I tear up because I won't get to see them again in person. 6 times for me. There is no finer live act than Rush. I became a musician because of them.
The Clockwork Angels tour in 2012 was steampunk. That album got them into the Hall of Fame. I saw that tour. My ears quit ringing by lunch the next day. I saw Styx in 78 and my ears rang the whole next day. Rush is made to be played LOUD! You can't hear the subtle sounds at less volume!
I am new to the channel but wanted to mention the double "neck" guitars they are playing. Alex has a 6 and 12 string guitar. If you notice, he goes back and forth throughout thesing. Pay attention and hear the difference. Geddy has a bass and a 6 string guitar on his. He primarily plays the bass but you will notice him strumming the 6 string occasionally. Mainly in this song and Xanadu. Cheers to all Rush fans.
Rush. The biggest selling band no one heard of! Just a totally different kind of band and fans that are just so loyal and happy to share the band that the rest of the world missed out on!
I was a latecomer to Rush and jumped on the Bandwagon just before the Presto Tour in the late 80's. I have since seen Rush live 26 times. Discovering this Band and their unmatched talent literally changed my life. I would humbly like to recommend another band that technically is Canadian/American called Big Wreck. IMO, the front-man of this band is in the same realm as Geddy, Alex and Neil as a master songwriter, vocalist and guitar player. A good starting point on youtube would be "Big Wreck - Ghosts (LIVE at the Suhr Factory Party 2015)" . This band still tours and it would not be too late to catch a show if you fall in love with Ian's singing and playing.
I had to laugh at the begining of the track when they started the accordian german style sound, then seeing the German Fraulein outfit you're wearing. I pissed myself.
I saw Rush here in Toronto at Maple Leaf Gardens in 1984. The best concert I've ever seen, tied with G3 at Massey Hall (Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson) (any of which you should look up as well! Hit me up for song reccos). Later, when I was in my 20's, I transcribed La Villa Strangiato for piano. Had to be selective as to what I took from the song (hell, I can't play three instruments at once!), but it turned out great, using the main guitar and bass lines as the basis. I actually had a recording of it... lost to the mists of time now. I did a number of Rush songs at the time: Red Barchetta, Spirit of Radio, and The Camera Eye I remember. I could recreate them, I guess, but it wouldn't be the same. Thanks for the reminder of that transcription. I've been watching Rush reactions for a while now, and subscribed because of your reactions. I watch channels for the content; I subscribe because of the personalities. Cheers.
I had always heard musicians say they wanted to jam and kinda wondered exactly what they meant. Watch Rush to get a definition of jamming - they mesh flawlessly together and each have their own little added bits into the main composition - it's just amazing to watch these three gentlemen play something as intricate and complex as this and they are all just having a blast and smiling the whole thing through. JAMMING RIP Professor 🙏
That guitar solo is in my view, one of the most beautiful in all of rock - which sadly most rock fans have never heard. This video is one of my all time favorite versions because they're just so relaxed and having so much fun. For a change of pace and a dose of heavy emotion, check out "The Garden" live in Dallas.
greatest gathering of rock musicians EVER...all 3 in a class of their own....they didnt play this much after the studio version....its one of the hardest songs to do live.....and they admitted that early on....they make it look easy here ...but it was a song that even these great musicians avoided doing live at first....it was a big deal at the time when they started doing it in concert....way before the internet, I remember hearing they were doing La Villa....camped out in a parking lots with 1000s of others for 2 days to get my tickets....saw them 12 times....every one of them you walked away stunned....good luck on your Rush journey....keep them coming.,..
Hi Kayla and Eddie - Thanks for this. I think you can see/hear two important things regarding the general thoughts on Rush. First, compositions like this don't make for good radio play. Too long and complicated and too subtle in many spots where you just need to be engaged to experience it properly. Second is the live performance and sound. I know this is no longer possible, but it's true for any great live music performance. Rush live simply makes you a fan for life. There are lots of live recordings like this one that are great and you two rightly let Alex's guitar lead take you away. That being said, the difference in sound and experience from this recording and what it sounds like live is just night and day. I got to see three Rush concerts and the third one, my two nephews (age 13-16) went with me and two new Rush fans were born.
Quick comment sprinkled with some trivia… this song had to be recorded in 3 parts although the band tried to do it in one take, they found it too difficult (yes, even for them)… they eventually gave in and recorded it in 3 separate takes and one take even moved to an entirely different studio. Great reaction
Great channel you guys & always cool to watch people discover Rush. There’s obvious good reason for you to watch/listen to live videos on-channel but I really encourage you to listen Rush’s studio versions of some, like this one, the composition & production are superb & they get a chance to really shine. Regardless, 🤘 rock on!
What are you 2 doing to me. I watched this back again, then watched it on my DVD. Suddenly my wife asked,’What are you doing? She asked this as I was copying you’re trippy dance to the first Alex solo.😂 Thanks a lot.❤
I'm a month late, but the first guitar solo is one of the great solos in rock music ever. When they first recorded this song they wanted to record the whole thing in one take, but they couldn't do it at the time. I think the official video ( ua-cam.com/video/eK1hmDpa8bo/v-deo.html) is them doing it the whole thing "live" in a theater but with no audience. It almost seemed like they were saying "ok, we can do that now". They definitely could because I think they did it for the encore (sometime in the set) when I saw them way way back on the Hemispheres tour, when this song would've been new.
Please check out The live "By-Tor and the Snowdog' medley! It's from the 1981 live video "Exit Stage Left" and is several songs linked together, ala Medley, and it freaking rocks! By the way, there is a version that is just By-Tor but you want to find the video that shows all the songs, By-Tor, In The End, In the Mood, and the 2112 Grande Finale. It's an amazing jam and the boys get crazy on stage!
I would highly recommend their magnum opus, 2112. I'd recommend the official video version so you can get the whole story. It's presented comic book style and has background notes to tie each section together.
Why, yes, a matter of fact, Geddy and Alex met and became best friends forever in the mid-60’s, in middle school in the (then) Toronto suburb of Willowdale.
This entire album, "Hemispheres," and the album before it, "A Farewell to Kings" are both very similar, and completely amazing. Hemispheres really feel like a completion to A Farewell to Kings, and in fact, there's a song on AFtK titled "Cygnus X1" which is a 2 part song, where the second song is the title track of Hemispheres. While I love all Rush albums, my 3 favorite Rush albums are Hemispheres, AFtK, and "Caress of Steel," an album that doesn't get anywhere near enough respect. Their rock concerts were EPIC, and the crowd always felt they got their moneys worth!
The carnival is not part of the song, the three of them have an awesome sense of humor hence the funny thing they do or add to their shows. Thankyou Kayla and Eddie.
They (Geddy and Alex) literally are BFFs since they were in their mid-teens. If you see any interviews from them, you'll see that they still go for dinner at each other's house and hang out together.
You know, I love your guys take on Rush. I really do. Guess that's obvious because I return to add more. lol Amidst their amazing portrayal of riffs, highs, lows, the darker side, the uptick in momentum, to simply just rising in spirit by pumping out some ridiculously hard creations that mesmerize... Many often overlook the fact their so captivating (but you can't dance to most their music.) In my eyes not a flaw at all but as much as myself and all my friends used to rip it up on a dance floor... Most didn't care. But at the time top-40 bands in bars were very popular so there was a lot more partying and dancing going on. Critics were already merciless toward Rush. Harsh because they were bringing a 'package' that didn't fit their form on the radio. It didn't help that what they delivered at times wasn't captured well in recordings live on stage. Many of these songs on early albums (in my opinion) were deliberate reactions of Rush shoving it back in critics faces showing just how good they really were. There were no answers from critics. Fans and many other musicians themselves were their sanctity. Alex's play in this piece was amazingly brilliant yet it fell on deaf ears. They knew they were knocking it out of the park. They goof around albeit teasing the critics. Off-beat tempo's, silly riffs, in my heart all a muse mocking the critics. It spoke volumes and people loved it.
Before delving into their more obscure genius, you need to check out"Working Man" by Rush (Time Machine Tour) live in Cleveland... prepare for face-melting.🤘🏼🤘🏼
BTW, I saw these guys 34 times. A lot of traveling for multiple shows in the same tour. Rush is the best. You can review them for the next decade. Have fun. Check out some songs from Power Windows like Marathon and Manhattan Progect. Cheers
Luckily, I came.on UA-cam today and came across.your RUSH reaction videos. You are both quite entertaining to watch as you experience the awesomeness that is live RUSH. One thing you may not get from watching them.p At live is the sense of humour that the guys, especially Alex and Geddy have. They did a HILARIOUS video on Funny Or Die with Paul Rudd and Jason Seigal. I think you both would really get a kick out of it. Thank you for the wonderful.content Rock out with your socks out
I know I posted it on one of your other reactions but, for their main stream sound listen to "The Spirit of Radio" and for the Deepest Rush, "2112" the entire side A
The US Arm did a Rush cover of "Time Stands Still" when Neil Peart passed away. I figured since the two of you met in the military and are going down the Rush rabbit hole, you may want to check that out.
Please check out their studio stuff. They're concerts were amazing don't get me twisted. Growing up We heard their studio stuff first. You'll appreciate the changes they make in their live shows more i believe
I liked your reaction. I'm gonna ask you for two deeper cuts by Rush. You chose which you want to do. The first is my favorite song by any band " A Farwell to kings". The second is "By-tor and the snow dog". Subscribed and liked
That solo is one of if not the best in guitar history. Alex is extremely talented at putting so much emotion into it. That guitar is alive and singing with its own voice.
You really need to experience the studio version of this song. the first main solo Alex does is his finest hour...
The solo IS epic but to say it was his finest hour belittles everything epic Big Al did post La Villa.
Saw Rush in concert a dozen times or more. My wife was closer to 15 times. The Time Machine tour was the first tour I took my kids to. My first experience with RUSH was on 2112 the album through my older brother and seeing that tour in LA in 1976. Never missed an album or tour thereafter! BEST BAND EVER!!! THE BEST LIVE ACT EVER!!!
It was the first encore after a 2.5 hour show.
Natural Science from Snakes and Arrows tour, Working Man from this concert and the entire side of an album 2112. All epic!!!
Thanks 🙏
I was at the concert when they filmed this...epic night for an epic band. My brother and I had floor seats at the half-court line.
Lucky ducks!
Have seen RUSH twice in their primes in the 80's...seen tours of Exit Stage Left and Moving Pictures, both concerts was excellent! Three top level musicians for sure... Thank u for sharing, gave you a Sub and a Like!

RUSH The greatest rock band that ever was or ever will be. By the way Kayla is absolutely beautiful.
True and true!
She has lovely eyes
If you'd like to see another "concert in a song," I recommend 2112 as performed at Toronto's Molson Amphitheater in 1997; the way Alex makes love to his guitar in his solo there is classic.
🎤 🎹 🎸 🥁 🎸 🔥 🔥 🔥
Thanks for the tip!
Agreed. The whole 2112 song performed live! A must see. Also check out Natural science( lyrics) because the song is just that awesome musically and lyrically. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦!

@@sid7088 yes, so I guess they should just do both! Alex's discovery solo is in the Live version is pretty special.

Another Canadian trio from the 80s is Triumph. They are just as amazing to see live performances of them as well.
Thanks 🙏
Yes..... Triumph Lay it on the line
This is one of the best songs ever written.

There are several versions of La Villa Strangiato to enjoy.

This is a dangerous driving song, I can't think of how many times I've almost gotten a ticket while cruising and jamming this one.
Also have to give a big thumbs up for the studio version. Give it a spin sometime. :)
Sounds like it!
Red Barchetta is another one...
This Instrumental was written by Alex Lifeson the guitarist. Listen to it in full, knowing that it was a dream he had as a child. Then the intro will make sense
It does now. Thanks!
You need to watch the video of when they did this song early in their career. The version your watching now misses a whole lot of Alex doing a solo at the beginning of the song and it's so great seeing Alex 's talent show through already at an early age. Smiles 😃 from Canada 🇨🇦 🤘RUSH🤘

you really need to listen to the studio version to really appreciate this song it starts with flamingo guitar thats amazing
Haha..love watching you guys..I smile every time! RIP Neal Peart. Best drummer ever!
Thanks for watching!
This is my favorite Rush song ever!!! Another song you guys should definitely check out it Subdivions! One of the band best lyrical works. During the 80’s the band had a major transition of their sound and Subdivisions is the gateway to their 80’s synth style music.
Thanks for the tip!
As a song it mimics a dream of Alex’s which is why there so many tonal & mood shifts and it feels so ephemeral
Great job reacting! From west coast canada, peace.
Thanks for watching!
I think this is the least amount y'all have talked during a video...the look of awe on your faces is palpable! One of the best solos ever, starts out slowly and heads to a crescendo. So bad ass.
It was awesome!
Thank you. Love your reaction. Rush is the major contributor to the soundtrack of my life. You may also want to look into Kansas, The Alan Parsons Project, and The Moody Blues.

Neil would wind up writing a steam punk fantasy concept album, which Rush recorded as its 19th and last studio album in 2012.
You should listen to Headlong Flight and The Garden from that album, but do the live versions, which were recorded in Dallas.
The opening track Caravan was premiered during this show, so be sure to check it out.
Thanks for watching!
The kings!!! Best ever!! Never duplicated!! Best live performers, even in their 60s, will out work everyone. #onlythree #greatestmusicians
REMEMBER ROLLER COASTERS ARE FAST WITH LOTS OF ADRENALINE I GUESS YOU COULD CALL IT LIKE THE BAND: A RUSH!!!
Rush Spirit of Radio live is awesome too, Getty does sing in that one. Thanks for your reaction. New subscriber here, looking forward to seeing more from you two. Love from Holland Michigan USA
Thanks for the love!
Saw this tour in Vancouver. 3 sets of Rush!
Lucky!

Headlong Flight is 🔥🔥🔥
When the music began I was thrilled to see Kayla was dressed for it!!!
Enjoying these. Keep ‘em coming! Rush Army is always loyal and enthusiastic (I.e. - obsessed), especially for those who ‘get it’!
We get it now!
Pronunciation was just fine, thanks.
Try 'Greatest Intro Ever' which is live opening to a show leading to 'The Spirit of Radio'. The intro pieces together a lot of the music from their past... Great reaction BTW.

The Clockwork Angels tour in 2012 was steampunk. That album got them into the Hall of Fame.
I saw that tour. My ears quit ringing by lunch the next day. I saw Styx in 78 and my ears rang the whole next day.

You have to be a RUSH FAN to appreciate how complex this song really is
🤭 The cool version of La Villa! 🤗 Cool Beans! 🥰🐰
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the tip!
I would highly recommend their magnum opus, 2112. I'd recommend the official video version so you can get the whole story. It's presented comic book style and has background notes to tie each section together.
Thanks for watching!
❤️
The carnival is not part of the song, the three of them have an awesome sense of humor hence the funny thing they do or add to their shows. Thankyou Kayla and Eddie.
They (Geddy and Alex) literally are BFFs since they were in their mid-teens. If you see any interviews from them, you'll see that they still go for dinner at each other's house and hang out together.
That’s awesome!
You know, I love your guys take on Rush. I really do. Guess that's obvious because I return to add more. lol
Amidst their amazing portrayal of riffs, highs, lows, the darker side, the uptick in momentum, to simply just rising in spirit by pumping out some ridiculously hard creations that mesmerize...

I would highly suggest where's my thing here it is! Another fenomenal instrumental that will blow your mind 😊😊
They REALLY are having fun-otherwise they wouldn’t be doing it.🤘🖖✌️🎸🥁🎤🎹

RUSH Army is present and prepared for duty.
Ten-hut!
My last time seeing rush, at the forum in the early 90s..still epic performance..😅
Awesome!
BTW, I saw these guys 34 times. A lot of traveling for multiple shows in the same tour. Rush is the best. You can review them for the next decade. Have fun. Check out some songs from Power Windows like Marathon and Manhattan Progect. Cheers
🤘
Luckily, I came.on UA-cam today and came across.your RUSH reaction videos. You are both quite entertaining to watch as you experience the awesomeness that is live RUSH. One thing you may not get from watching them.p
At live is the sense of humour that the guys, especially Alex and Geddy have. They did a HILARIOUS video on Funny Or Die with Paul Rudd and Jason Seigal. I think you both would really get a kick out of it.
Thank you for the wonderful.content
Rock out with your socks out
We may have to react to that! Thanks!❤️
I was there. Floor on geddys side..Amazing show
Lucky!
closer to the heart as another tune from a Farewell to Kings 1977 i do believe
Thanks!
I know I posted it on one of your other reactions but, for their main stream sound listen to "The Spirit of Radio" and for the Deepest Rush, "2112" the entire side A
Thanks!
Spirit of Radio...
The US Arm did a Rush cover of "Time Stands Still" when Neil Peart passed away. I figured since the two of you met in the military and are going down the Rush rabbit hole, you may want to check that out.
🤔

Please check out their studio stuff. They're concerts were amazing don't get me twisted. Growing up We heard their studio stuff first. You'll appreciate the changes they make in their live shows more i believe

Hi, you've seen the best guitar solo ever. Stairway to heaven is just at the second place.
Thanks for watching!
I liked your reaction. I'm gonna ask you for two deeper cuts by Rush. You chose which you want to do. The first is my favorite song by any band " A Farwell to kings". The second is "By-tor and the snow dog".
Subscribed and liked
That second one sounds… interesting 🤔
Do the studio version!
