Great video. Jungle boots have issues but if you know you are going to have to step in water repeatedly, in relatively warm conditions, there is no point trying to keep you boots "dry". Better to have boots that shed water and accept they are going to get wet. I would note that jungle boots are much more pleasant in the summer
Haha good testing. If that was a jungle you could sleep overnight and wake up to relatively dry boots and then immerse them again. I am surprised they use any leather at all. I expect there is a rubber version somewhere.
Hi Chris, If you do find a rubber version let me know. I have been in a jungle in Peru for a couple of days. Luckily we didn't went trough water every day and we had relatively dry wether. I see it more as hot wether boots that can cross a river and dry fast. (5 hours in my test). Thanks for the comments, Greetings Wim
Hi Wim...the only non-leather boots I have found are British army pattern 44 jungle (2nd world war and Malaya) boot : canvas and rubber. I think they are rare.
@@traveler5898 cover your boots in dubbin and let it really soak in then treat them with silicone water repellant, you can make it with mineral spirits and typical hardware store silicone, theres many videos on it. It has to be said that the boot is not a jungle boot. It was designed for the KFOR deployment of the German military, so for hot climate, but without the mud of the jungle. That is why the sole is so flat, unlike a Panama outsole.
You are wrong. I served in Brazilian army for twenty years and twelve in amazon battalions. I earned one of this boots of a german friend. Some times I did operations in the jungle with this boots and it is very good. Its sole is not so "agressive" and leave a discret track. And very durables

really Nice review but the hooks, which are lace locks, are there to help isolate different areas of tension. Ie, you might have more tension over the lower foot but have less, or more in the upper area arond the ankle. If you don't use them, them pressure over the foot isn't regulated.
Excellent video, congratulations!!!!! Are a beautiful and resistent boots. I'm very happy whit my Baltes jungle boots, are the best.👍👌👏👍👌👏👍👌👏💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯🤠
I had a pair of repro jungle boots for rennactment. My feet where cut to ribbons within an hour of wear. I got a pair of these & my god after a couple of times of wear their like slippers.
Seems like those vents on the jungle boots would introduce water in just few inches where a water resistant boot wouldn't. If you're wearing those boots the inside wouldn't dry out very quickly and you're also introducing bacteria and fungus from the dirty water. I've been in 8 inches of mud with my 10 inch US military issue 90s boots and only a slight bit of water permeated over several hours and most got absorbed by my socks.
Hi, I thought so too but the vents have a valve thing, water/air can get out fast but hardly in. So your feet would stay dry for a while in a few inches of water. I agree with the whole bacteria and fungi so for practical use a waterproof boot is better. I use mine as warm weather boots most of the time and that works fine. Greetings Wim
That's the point, in the jungle your feet are going to get wet no matter what you do so best to get rid of it quickly instead of trying to make it never enter, cause it will enter, and when it will the water can't escape your boots and you'll get trench rot.
I have "Baltes" Model 2003 boots on my feet just now. The leather patch on the boot's tongue ha s the following numbers: 277 102 in upper line (size in Mondopoint system (cm) - length and width), and 07 03 5 in the bottom line (manufacturing date - July 2003, and code of the manufacturer - 5).
Hi, yes, even they draining holes don't let water in that easy. But you have to maintain the leather as you would normal boots, with grease or wax or polish. I wear them on a rainy day regularly and that is fine. You can handle a bit of water without getting wet feet but nothing deep for any amount of time. greetings Wim
Hi Bob, I hope you enjoy them as mush as I do. Maybe over the years they had minor changes in production. I never noticed it in different boots. Greetings, Wim
you need to take them off to drain the rest of the water, dont you? The holes are way too high. And do they provide ventilation at all? If you keep them on while full of water and keep running, will they ever get dry? IMO this design only makes them less heavy when crossing a river and less warm
Hi, the water remaining in the shoes is minimal if the fit is good. The rest will evaporate out. Ventilation is minimal but still beter than nothing in warm weather. The walking makes air go round in your shoe. But indeed it's the design that helps the most. Still for the money and old military they're the best around for me. I still enjoy them a lot. Greetings Wim

Nice review. What boots in your opinion are better made and more durable Wellco or Baltes? I want to buy a pair. My feet are used to army boots, but I need a pair that are durable and will last longest.
Hi, I think they're both pretty strong. But the Baltes boots are better quality I think. The soles of the baltes boots a much harder (last longer). But mine do make stripes on hard floors like linoleum or wood. So indoors you have to be more careful. Greetings Wim
My question is, if I do use this boots when raining and I put my foot in a hole full of water Does my foot get wet? Or the holes doesn't water let through
Hi Federico, you might get away with stepping in a hole once if you take it out quick. it's the mash that lets the water in the fastest. But the holes let water in also (tested it for you in the sink). So if you were them in the rain with puddles, you will get wet feet. Greetings Wim
