Got two of these at retail, used one as part of a trade for a 135th 🌹, traded for another one later. Very glad to have my backup back! It’s way better than almost anything else 100 proof
Nice review! My local store has about four bottles left for 149.00 I’ve made trades and I’ve acquired 3 bottles! It’s by far one of my top rye pours! Cheers!
I was fortunate to buy this off the shelf of a Total Wine for $72 just over a year ago. I've been nursing it for a long time. It's got coffee notes and it's a little earthy in a good way. It's definitely a unique pour. A well-known whiskey website gave it a pretty bad review (2.5 barrels?) describing it as too drying, which was not my experience.
I visited JD recently and did a tasting as we’ve toured there multiple times. Turns out it was 5 Distillery Series selections, and the twice barreled rye was the clear winner. The kicker was you had a chance to buy one, even if it was officially OOS, and that was it! Sometimes you just get lucky …
I was just able to pick one up from the last Brewzle drop! I’m super excited to try it now once it gets here! I had to buy it in a bundle with a liter of regular Jack (McLaren bottle), but it was $123 for BOTH, so I guess I made out alright!
Great video guys! Have one in bunker.. now you two made me search for another! Btw you guys talked about regular Bunna 12 … do try 2022 Bunna Cask strength. One of the best whiskey came out last 3/4 years!
I was lucky enough to find 2 of those at msrp when they were release. Once i opened it my reaction was very similar to both of you. It was a special pour for sure
@@stuffandwhiskey not usually in the past few years, unfortunately, at least to the UK. I think Japan sometimes gets these. BUT, we have been getting more special releases and bottles picks so that makes me very happy (I just picked up a Yellowstone store pick).
I stumbled upon one over the summer in a small neighborhood store in Memphis. You know the ones with the glass where it's like standing in a hallway.😂 Anyways, it was $85! I wish they had more than 1, but I got that for my brother.
Y'all really liked the nose on this. As a question regarding the correlation between nose and palate, generally, if a pour has a really impressive nose, do you typically really like it on the palate?
I had a guy they call Easy Andy offer this to me but I turned him down because I don't like ryes. Would you say this drinks more like a bourbon or a rye?
You were both saying it drinks well above 100 proof. So you're saying it had way more ethanol heat on it than what you'd normally expect from 100 proof?
@@stuffandwhiskey, What had me uncertain if y'all were saying the JD Twice Barreled Rye drank high proof *heat-wise* or *flavor-wise* was Erin said, "If you don't like high-proof whiskey I would not recommend buying because you feel that high proof." I think what people don't like about high-proof whiskey is that it has high *heat* , not that it has high *flavor* .
@@Best_Served_Neat_On_Ice That's fair. We were talking about flavor but definitely see the confusion. Words are hard sometimes and it's not always easy to be perfectly clear on camera when you're unscripted and flying by the seat of your pants like we do.

Guessing they're reading the pleasant earthiness as drying, which is a testament to palate differences. Great score at that price!

I was lucky enough to get this in a package when it first came out, this with the Barrel Proof Rye were $159+tax!
That's a steal!

Grew up on Blackstreet 🙋🏼♂
My favorite whiskey to date. Haven’t tried Coy Hill or anything BTAC, but this one is a banger. Would pay $150-$200 if I could get another.
Agreed. I'm babying my bottle and it's half gone. Fantastic bottle!
I’m sure you get this all the time Josh but your Doppleganger is Rick from the Walking Dead!
It’s not often but I’ve gotten it a time or two!
I was able to get this for around $90 last year when it was released. One of my favorite ryes I’ve owned.
Loved this video! Thanks!
You are so right on this one - just finished my bottle and that was one sad bottle kill…

A little Blackstreet action...salute!
I grabbed that with a late lottery pick last year. I need to get back into that.
That sounds so much up my street in terms of flavours. Wish we could have gotten something like that over here.
Makes us wonder what the international distribution is like on special releases like this from JD.

To me the Tennessee Distillery series 375 is better than the 2023 release. Just get 2 of those…or I’d recommend getting more that 2😂

Fantastic bottle! And I just may know where a couple are FYI 😉 Cheers y'all 🥃
My favorite Jack Daniels squat bottle. I like it better than my 2024 Coy Hill

Usually, but not always, which is always a huge letdown.
Looks like Erin had one or two before the video started!
First recording of the day actually!
@@stuffandwhiskeyI figured. Erin is da bomb 😄Love it!!
fun intro, now I will have that song in my head all day. thanks that is a fun pour, now I want to try it again made me thirsty. cheers
Now if we could just get Erin to wrap her next whiskey review.
I had a guy they call Easy Andy offer this to me but I turned him down because I don't like ryes. Would you say this drinks more like a bourbon or a rye?
The second barrel definitely imparts a lot of sweetness that’s reminiscent of sweet bourbon.
Gonna have to check when I get home to see if I own this bottle. I honestly have no idea 🤦🏼♂️😂
😂 😂

It had more actual flavor than 100 proofers typically have, no doubt thanks to the second barreling.

FoMo title!
We felt it on this one. Ignorance was bliss, and prior to tasting it we had no FOMO. Luckily we were able to source a bottle after trying it.
@stuffandwhiskey I'm happy you found a bottle you enjoy
Saw a bottle once but it was in the $500 range. 👎🏼
Sheesh! Too rich for us.
@@stuffandwhiskey Me too!
WHISKEY CHEERS 😎
Didn't make it through the first minute of this one. Bleh
No worries. We’re hanging out and having fun, and we’re not for everyone. Plenty of other channels out there. Hopefully you can find a better fit.
