My youngest got told he was a snitch when he was in 3rd grade. All because he told the teacher a boy said he had a gun. It turns out it was a toy gun but he didnt know. I told him he did the right thing.

This isn’t the world we live in, it’s the country we live in. This isn’t happening in most other countries. And the fact that schools are trying to take phones away from kids or lock them up makes it worse in my opinion

I also think it’s on the parents to teach their kids what is and isn’t okay in terms of using their phones during the day, and restrict access to apps during school hours
Have you tried to teach students who are on their cellphones? Cellphones are huge distraction in the classroom. Majority of bullying happens on cell phones. Schools are safer without them. Instead, let’s manage our growing problem of irresponsible gun ownership.

I'm all for this idea. Like @suewalters9822 has suggested, hire a qualified instructor (or 2) and have them help you create a schedule and environment that supports your kids' online classes.
It truly is💔 that this is even needed. Our daughter switched to online school last year with her school district. We all decided it would be better for her to go strickly online without having any connection to her school district. She had so called friends tell her to unalive herself. I'm very greatful that was so strong and didn't listen to them. The online school even offers field trips and online e-sports (video games). I hope she gets her spark back by doing this.
I think this is so important. Speaking from being a student, communication between our parents and us is so important. Weather we are doing something after school or an emergency happens.
If you and your family think a cellphone can help you feel safe(r) and avoid triggers, then this is good decision. Nothing is ideal in this world and society and nothing or no-one can guarantee that in case of serious danger, the phones can be used, which can lead to more panic.

I think this is happening everywhere! Our schools in Indiana did the same thing! They received threats too all the school in our district! It’s extremely sad! My kids are in elementary school!
No not in Denmark at least. Most people don't have guns. But most people also treat people nicely. Like shootings is rare and when it happens it's usually within the criminal network. I've never felt unsafe going to school. And I even took my master doing covid. The only thing people should worry about is the lack of freedom and the raised level of control. That's more a worldwide thing now than violence 😅

It is uncanny how similar the reports in different states are and at pretty much the same time. I know that school threats are real, but it also throws red flags to see how they all line up so perfectly.
No better feeling then getting right into your comfort zone and that at home with your family. I hope this school situation will come easy for you to figure out what’s best, phones are important for many reasons and some will say 8 and 11 year olds are too young to have phones and I kinda get that but at the same time they have phones to get hold parents, siblings anyone that can help them from emergency. Iv already commented once about how heartbreaking it is for kids and school but it just brakes me so much and I wish It was so easy to get rid of it all so no one has to fear going school. I wish that homeschooling was thing when I was younger. Unfortunately, I didn't have that opportunity, and I did dropped out, because of bullying and violence in my school. I ended up in a foster home from missing so much school due to bullies.they took my bus and followed me home and everything.then my senior year one of them showed up at the same school but because she didnt have the main bully with her she didnt bother me and i did graduate.

Am in GA where the last sh…. Happened, the day after my heart felt so overwhelmed dropping my boys to school. But also some what relief that since Ubalde there is metal detectors and kids get checked when entering the school. Let’s all pray for our kids safety. i am sorry you are going through all this. i loved auroras reaction when she looked in the bag it seemed like she thought the phone was for her. i am so glad that she got a phone as it will help her read texts and stuff. plus its good for safety even outside of school. if she is outside by herself and she gets hurt she can call for help
As a mum in the UK, I'm sending you so much love. I know it won't help and I can't suggest much (you do such a great job already), but please know how much we think about the school children in the US as although we have our problems, lockdown drills and active shooters are thankfully not an issue here. We had a terrible tragedy in Scotland where a number of little souls were lost, and certain types of guns were banned almost immediately- we've had no issues since and long may that continue ❤ lots of love to your family, and all the families affected xx

You may want to remind even your adult kids to always know where emergency exits are when they go to large venues, like concerts. If something, like a fire or worse happens, things will get chaotic. So, it is helpful to know in advance where emergency exits are. They are usually listed on the venues websites.
Breaks my 💜 for Arizona kids. Remember when I was a kid w/ 9/11 & then in my state CT the Newton School shooting & remember our states fear.. Back wheb i was as a kid didn't have cells but its 💯 needed... I love Aurora & not saying anything mean about her but as the new adopted kid I just thought Evie should've went 1st. I am sorry your kids now have to go through this. All of our schools across the nation need prayer. My kid's school has been dealing with this for the last 4 years since a child lost his life. All schools in our district now have metal detectors and clear back packs. There have unfortunately been several situations over the last few years and so far 2 situations this year. Yep my kids are still little but I want to homeschool. My husband and I both went to private and public schools. (Bullying was worse at the Christian school sadly. )There are so many homeschool groups and activities now. It’s actually awesome.

In the school district my 10 year old daughter goes to does NOT allow at the elementary schools if a child does bring a phone to school the are suppose to shut off their phone and put and then leave in their backpack. I got my daughter a phone when she was 8 for one reason (which the phone isn’t being used for in no fault of my daughter) I allow her to keep it bc I’m able to track her and she can get ahold of me or her grandparents at anytime. I also want her to be able to get emergency care if needed. I don’t let her turn it off at anytime, I have taught her to put it complete silent mode not even vibrate while at school and she leaves it in her backpack but as soon as the bell rings she also knows to check it really quickly to see if I have texted her to let her know if there is any change in plans on who is picking her up. I also make her leave it on because if she REALLY needs something or she isn’t feeling safe for any reason she can text me and let me know what’s going on. After being in an REAL lockdown a few years ago, as a teacher in my 1st year at an elementary school, it was extremely scary and emotional. I didn’t have my phone on me at lunch because I forgot to pick it up as we left the classroom. So I was unable to communicate with my family to let them know what was going on and to let them know i was safe. Thank God, it was not for an active shooter on our campus but the guy robbed an atm and Brinks truck. He shot and I pretty sure killed one of the Brinks armed guard. This happened 1 block from my school. The guy’s step child/ren went to the school I worked at and lived right behind the school so we went full lock down and then we were in a locked in (after it was full lockdown, we were allowed to come out of hiding but we weren’t allowed out of the room we were in and no one was allowed in but we could go about our regular schedules) until the end of the day. The parents of the kids in my program had to come up to the cafe door and we could only release the student to an authorized adult on their emergency cards and only 1 at a time. We were at lunch when this happened around 12:30pm. It just so happened that we were supposed to have a lockdown drill at 1. So, we thought at first that they decided to do it early but we quickly found out that it was the real deal. We took our student into the teachers lounge as it had no windows I went to push something in front of the door I accidentally barely touched the door to the outside and it opened. We had no way to lock it so we were scrambling and trying to figure out quickly what to do the head of the cafeteria came in and told us to go to the cool storage room (it wasn’t the fridge or freezer but the room was definitely cooler than any of the other parts of the cafe. It’s was where they stored the food in. My kids were underneath the counters sitting on the bars piled up let a barrel of monkeys and the smallest places as they were all ages 3-5 and were a mixed class of special needs and neurotypical VPK students. My students were setting the example for the 5th grades in the storage room with us. They 5th graders were talking and making jokes and were being loud and needed lots of redirections to stay quiet. They just were not listening until I spoke up and told to be quiet and stop joking this is a real lock down and we don’t know if there was an active shooter/armed person on the campus (because at that time we didn’t know if the guy was on the campus trying to flee from police or was going to try to get his stepchild/ren and that if there was one that they would be able to know exactly where we were because of the noise and to them flat out that this was very serious and we all were in real danger and could be critically hurt or worse. After that the jokes stopped and so did the talking until the lockdown was down graded to a locked-in status then we all played games and hung out together. The 5th graders became great helpers for the littles (aka the “babies” of the school). They played toddler/younger kid games and sang songs with us and really took an interest in the little ones. That is now the MAIN reason I don’t let her shut off her phone at school. She NEEDS to be able to get ahold of me. While at school I also put her phone in a locked status so the only thing she can do is call/text me and/or 911. Messages do not notify until her phone is locked and I am able to pretty much control her phone from my phone.
I love how Bella was lying on the floor all the time. When I was little I used to do this all the time. It was so comfortable. As someone who works in a school in Ontario Canada, I feel so sad for your schools there. My prayers are with you and that I hope this situation doesn't last very long.
That happened to my youngest son. One afternoon a detective came to our door and said there was a hit list with 5 names on it and my son was one of them. We were shocked. He was very popular with all the kids in high school so it was frightening not knowing who wrote it. He ended up missing a week of school, detectives orders. Homeschooling is the way to go. It's all states. I live on the KY/TN line and all of the surrounding schools have had these threats. Apparently it's been a B reel/ TikTok trend. Thankfully this week we have no had anymore threats. They have arrested around 5 kids so far for threats
It’s social media. It’s parents giving their child/children instead of them working for it. I was raised that anything worth having was worth working for. I hear parents say I feel guilty that so and so has it and mine does not.Guilty?? A parent is supposed to provide a roof over their head, food, clothing and by clothing I don’t mean the latest fads or trends or shopping trips to the mall for $200 jeans , the necessities for life. A child getting a job at sixteen is a good thing. Less time on gaming devices, computers or their phones teach them how to save and budget their money. Stop being their buddy, pal, friend and teach them to respect their parents. While the majority of their children CAME from foster care and they have been living in a home where they should by now feel secure. Yes, they will have memories of the sad or bad times but when does it come time to MOVE forward instead of using the “they were in foster care and had it hard”. These kids live a life of luxury. Yes, they adopted them and the majority of them have been in this home for YEARS. The Oh wow is me, I was in foster care and I had it hard needs to come to an end. There are many children that grew up in foster care and are successful in life. They took it and decided it was not going to define them. I know. Been there and done it. I worked from the age of 14, I bought all of my clothes, shoes and school supplies. I studied and made sure to get my education. I went to college and got my degree to work in the medical field. I have traveled the world by being a traveling medical professional. You will not hear me say oh poor me, I was in foster care from the age of 2 and my life was ruined. It made me stronger, QUIT using it as a crutch for these kids. Instead put them on a path to succeed, instead of handing them everything or letting them sit for HOURS on gaming devices. Savannah is going to be a go getter, she will succeed, getting her education, aand vocational training and working a job. She is a busy young lady. Lucas just graduated and has his future plan set up and he works and has since he turned 16. Life is what you make it. You can either succeed OR you can walk around going pitiful me I was in foster care and I am OWED every thing because of this. Stop using it as a crutch! Use it to succeed.
teaching kids kindness is very important, too! the core issue is mental illness and it comes from many sources, bullying being one of them. teach kids to be a friend to the ''loner'' etc. because they may just find a bestie!
This is just not okay. We need gun reform so badly in the US. Our kids shouldn’t be scared to go to school. If I had kids in school I’d have to homeschool or move out of the city.
You guys are amazing, I wish I was placed with a family like yours when I was in foster care, luckily for me it was just a couple weeks, not the best ones but my mom did everything in her power to get us back asap, just to add, it was an issue that had nothing to do with my mom but my step dad and it affected my mom, my self and my siblings. We are all good now 🙏🏻 ❤
The only advice I think I can give you is to please just make sure you have a boundary/mandatory with the phones for them two is you take it from them at night, (it's in your room before bed and then you give it back to them for the day.)
You’re not alone with your feelings as a parent. My daughter’s school had a lock down in Jr high school and I pulled her out and she did home school. The stress of her safety was just too much for our family. You have to do what is right for your child and your family.
I work at an elementary school as a lunch lady. There was a gun loaded and found right outside the cafeteria doors and the kids said not to say anything to another boy, luckily he came and told me. I asked the 11 year old what he planned on doing with the gun since he told everyone to keep their mouths shut and he actually got offended. Whose parenting these kids!!!!
I know a group of veterans who are grouping up with other veterans and are willing to guard schools for free .This should happen at all schools .it's so scary now a days ,they should be able to go to school without fears, im so sorry .sending love and prayers ❤❤🎉

I am sure whatever decision is made it will have been with Aaron and Crystal sitting with the children explaining everything, the children giving their opinions etc, then moving forward with the results. It is sad at one time apart from home, schools were considered a safe place for children to be. Aurora and Evie's reactions to new phones was so lovely, Evie saying you thought she was ready for a phone, meant a lot to her. Blessings.
It is so sad that kids and parents have to deal with this. I would be so anxious if i had a child in school right now. On a side note, i love evie's laugh and smile. Her facial expression when she was hugging you is priceless 😊
I totally understand I have one turning 11 in 3 weeks and is autism. Evie is showing on how much they grow up and be responsible. School threats are real. We have the same issue in Texas.
Hi Crystal, For Evie and Aurora, I strongly recommend you make them a Social Story for Emergency Situations and School Lockdowns… The only time that we have school lockdowns here in Queensland Australia 🇦🇺 is for the very rare B***b Threat or when some random person enters school grounds and refuses to leave… Our Primary School does regular Emergency Lockdown Practice and also regular Fire Drills so that the kids know exactly what to do whenever something scary might happen… It’s better to be upfront and honest with age appropriate information … It’s the world that we live in today.. Thinking of you all..

In GA, we also had these threats....it was going around the US. I personally don't allow my kids' phones until they are 6th grade & have to stay after for school activities. Having a phone at school doesn't help bc they take their phones here & not allowed in class. 8 IMO is too young

My kids are now 25,22,21 they was getting bullied in school I ended up homeschooling all through middle and highschool the best decision I ever made . If I was you I would take my kids out and homeschool
@@LisaDCrewswhen you home school there is plenty of homeschooling groups and activities and kids can still do sports and it is all under your supervision. Homeschooling children get just as much as children interactions and a lot safer . My kids have done amazing in life one works for the fire department and post office and the other one is a manager of a big company and my daughter is in nursing school and works with people with disabilities and I am a EMT and Medical Assistant we have all been doing amazing and always they have been safe
My 7 and 9 year old have phones. The 7 year old is a watch he can only call approved numbers 911 and text us emergency texts. The 9 year old has a regular cell phone it is important to me that they cab reach us.. we also have 5 years twins that go to the same school so they don't have one but will by 1st or 2nd grade
I am living in The Netherlands and this is definitely not happening in most places. I think the US is definitely in the minority group for gun control. I really feel for all the kids and parents having to deal with living in fear when school should be a safe place. I hope the US administration can make the right decisions to protect their citizens. My youngest foster daughter has major attachment disorders, I got her a phone when she was 8 , she has had it a year now and feels a lot safer knowing I'm always at the end of the phone, she calls me constantly to make sure I am safe and she knows where I am at all times, even though she has a tracker on me. I have to admit she is now thriving. You have to do what you need to do, other parents condemned me for giving my foster child a phone . But she needs to know she is safe and loved. X

We've had a child apprehended disembarking from a bus, and other districts have experienced the same in this wave of threats. This is not what children should be learning at school and it is heartbreaking. Reviewing what we need the kids to do in an event is very traumatic for them (and us) as they ask how they will know if siblings are ok, how to notify parents, if they will be able to check on friends....
Unfortunately it's not just mesa schools I heard about threats at California schools and Ohio schools as well. So Unfortunately it's I think across the USA right now.
Nationwide. I do not understand why this hasn't gotten more attention from the media. I work at a school facility in the PNW. It is terrifying to consider. The district I work in had a child apprehended disembarking from a bus within the last ten days. Having to review what to do in the event....difficult conversations with kids who are just starting out. It is so stressful. There is a trauma just in the understanding that it can happen to us at any time and reinforcing what they need to do, hoping that they will follow that if something happens, fielding questions/comments about how they will be able to check on siblings, friends, trusted teachers in the building. It is incomprehensible and surreal and at the same time very very real. We've emphasized the need to ensure their safety first. I pray that should something happen they will do as we've trained them to do. Virtually every state has had multiple events like this.
As a teacher who has had to participate in lockdowns, the most important thing to communicate with your children is that during a lockdown they should text and absolutely not call until they are safe. Silence is so important and they shouldn’t tie up the phone lines with calls.
Please please please talk to Evie separately, I’m a mum with a now 14 yr old Autistic son. He, like Evie presents as immature, the main thing I have learned along the way (he was diagnosed at 5) is words will be taken literally so you will need to be in a calm safe space and explain things very basically to her, try not to overload with too much information and give her processing time (if you ask her a question count in your head to ten before asking her answer if she hasn’t said anything) it will help her and you with communication skills to aid her. Good luck, I have so many other ideas I’ve picked up along the way that I would love to share with you should you ever need, love you guys, from one additional needs mum to another- we’ve got this! X

Hey crystal, I was a sophomore when my school, Michigan State University, was a victim of these terrible events. It definitely hurts to think about the kids that just wanted to go to class or eat dinner, but ended up traumatized or injured instead. I hope your kids stay safe and continue to thrive in school!

So glad you got them their own phones. I live about 1 1/2 hours from Appalachia high school in Ga. I have 2 granddaughters in school. One in Ga and the other in Ky. Love the kids and feel so bad for what they are going through.

Whhere i live in Staten Island nyc 3 kids was arrested 1junior high school student 2 high schoolers ! All three found with. Guns and next day a girl was shot outside the school.
In my son's special needs class they practice lockdowns. They encouraged us to practice it at home. We use short phrases. They tell them it is not safe right now. They reassure them that they are safe with their teachers. They reassure them that the door is locked. They talked to them in soothing voices. The teachers tell the students they can call a parent or a friend if they need to feel safe if they talk quietly. My son has been in a few lockdowns. From the practice that he has gotten it has helped him be less anxious and scared.
I was bullied in school. It was embarrassing, but I learned to over come it and do my best to ignore it. However, back then school didn’t have what is happening now. It breaks my heart because I loved school. Some of my favorite memories of school. I worked in our school district here for over 27 years. While I miss being there I am so happy I don’t have to deal with what is going on now! My heart and prayers go out to all of the kids that are in school. It makes me so sad.
I am in CA and I am glad my son graduated HS last year. Things are getting worse at schools. A few days ago, 2 elementary school kids were caught with (1 with a gun unloaded, and the other was a replica gun.) 2 different elementary schools, same district on the same day. This is crazy. Have you tried to teach students who are on their cellphones? Cellphones are huge distraction in the classroom. Majority of bullying happens on cell phones. Schools are safer without them. Instead, let’s manage our growing problem of irresponsible gun ownership.

It truly is💔 that this is even needed. Our daughter switched to online school last year with her school district. We all decided it would be better for her to go strickly online without having any connection to her school district. She had so called friends tell her to unalive herself. I'm very greatful that was so strong and didn't listen to them. The online school even offers field trips and online e-sports (video games). I hope she gets her spark back by doing this.

If you and your family think a cellphone can help you feel safe(r) and avoid triggers, then this is good decision.
Nothing is ideal in this world and society and nothing or no-one can guarantee that in case of serious danger, the phones can be used, which can lead to more panic.
When they picked them up at school and took them for food, I had tears as my momma would have done the same. Turn a scary situation into a fun one.

I think this is happening everywhere! Our schools in Indiana did the same thing! They received threats too all the school in our district! It’s extremely sad! My kids are in elementary school!
No not in Denmark at least. Most people don't have guns. But most people also treat people nicely. Like shootings is rare and when it happens it's usually within the criminal network. I've never felt unsafe going to school. And I even took my master doing covid. The only thing people should worry about is the lack of freedom and the raised level of control. That's more a worldwide thing now than violence 😅
It has been happening in TN, AL and GA as well. Not just 1 or 2 schools, been many. So I am sure it’s happening nationwide.

It is uncanny how similar the reports in different states are and at pretty much the same time. I know that school threats are real, but it also throws red flags to see how they all line up so perfectly.
No better feeling then getting right into your comfort zone and that at home with your family. I hope this school situation will come easy for you to figure out what’s best, phones are important for many reasons and some will say 8 and 11 year olds are too young to have phones and I kinda get that but at the same time they have phones to get hold parents, siblings anyone that can help them from emergency. Iv already commented once about how heartbreaking it is for kids and school but it just brakes me so much and I wish It was so easy to get rid of it all so no one has to fear going school. I wish that homeschooling was thing when I was younger. Unfortunately, I didn't have that opportunity, and I did dropped out, because of bullying and violence in my school.

I ended up in a foster home from missing so much school due to bullies.they took my bus and followed me home and everything.then my senior year one of them showed up at the same school but because she didnt have the main bully with her she didnt bother me and i did graduate.

Am in GA where the last sh…. Happened, the day after my heart felt so overwhelmed dropping my boys to school. But also some what relief that since Ubalde there is metal detectors and kids get checked when entering the school. Let’s all pray for our kids safety.

As a mum in the UK, I'm sending you so much love. I know it won't help and I can't suggest much (you do such a great job already), but please know how much we think about the school children in the US as although we have our problems, lockdown drills and active shooters are thankfully not an issue here. We had a terrible tragedy in Scotland where a number of little souls were lost, and certain types of guns were banned almost immediately- we've had no issues since and long may that continue ❤ lots of love to your family, and all the families affected xx

You may want to remind even your adult kids to always know where emergency exits are when they go to large venues, like concerts. If something, like a fire or worse happens, things will get chaotic. So, it is helpful to know in advance where emergency exits are. They are usually listed on the venues websites.
Breaks my 💜 for Arizona kids. Remember when I was a kid w/ 9/11 & then in my state CT the Newton School shooting & remember our states fear.. Back wheb i was as a kid didn't have cells but its 💯 needed... I love Aurora & not saying anything mean about her but as the new adopted kid I just thought Evie should've went 1st. I am sorry your kids now have to go through this. All of our schools across the nation need prayer. My kid's school has been dealing with this for the last 4 years since a child lost his life. All schools in our district now have metal detectors and clear back packs. There have unfortunately been several situations over the last few years and so far 2 situations this year. It is a very sad time we live in. Prayers lifted 🙏🙏🙏
Yep my kids are still little but I want to homeschool. My husband and I both went to private and public schools. (Bullying was worse at the Christian school sadly. )There are so many homeschool groups and activities now. It’s actually awesome.

In the school district my 10 year old daughter goes to does NOT allow at the elementary schools if a child does bring a phone to school the are suppose to shut off their phone and put and then leave in their backpack. I got my daughter a phone when she was 8 for one reason (which the phone isn’t being used for in no fault of my daughter) I allow her to keep it bc I’m able to track her and she can get ahold of me or her grandparents at anytime. I also want her to be able to get emergency care if needed. I don’t let her turn it off at anytime, I have taught her to put it complete silent mode not even vibrate while at school and she leaves it in her backpack but as soon as the bell rings she also knows to check it really quickly to see if I have texted her to let her know if there is any change in plans on who is picking her up. I also make her leave it on because if she REALLY needs something or she isn’t feeling safe for any reason she can text me and let me know what’s going on. After being in an REAL lockdown a few years ago, as a teacher in my 1st year at an elementary school, it was extremely scary and emotional. I didn’t have my phone on me at lunch because I forgot to pick it up as we left the classroom. So I was unable to communicate with my family to let them know what was going on and to let them know i was safe. Thank God, it was not for an active shooter on our campus but the guy robbed an atm and Brinks truck. He shot and I pretty sure killed one of the Brinks armed guard. This happened 1 block from my school. The guy’s step child/ren went to the school I worked at and lived right behind the school so we went full lock down and then we were in a locked in (after it was full lockdown, we were allowed to come out of hiding but we weren’t allowed out of the room we were in and no one was allowed in but we could go about our regular schedules) until the end of the day. The parents of the kids in my program had to come up to the cafe door and we could only release the student to an authorized adult on their emergency cards and only 1 at a time. We were at lunch when this happened around 12:30pm. It just so happened that we were supposed to have a lockdown drill at 1. So, we thought at first that they decided to do it early but we quickly found out that it was the real deal. We took our student into the teachers lounge as it had no windows I went to push something in front of the door I accidentally barely touched the door to the outside and it opened. We had no way to lock it so we were scrambling and trying to figure out quickly what to do the head of the cafeteria came in and told us to go to the cool storage room (it wasn’t the fridge or freezer but the room was definitely cooler than any of the other parts of the cafe. It’s was where they stored the food in. My kids were underneath the counters sitting on the bars piled up let a barrel of monkeys and the smallest places as they were all ages 3-5 and were a mixed class of special needs and neurotypical VPK students. My students were setting the example for the 5th grades in the storage room with us. They 5th graders were talking and making jokes and were being loud and needed lots of redirections to stay quiet. They just were not listening until I spoke up and told to be quiet and stop joking this is a real lock down and we don’t know if there was an active shooter/armed person on the campus (because at that time we didn’t know if the guy was on the campus trying to flee from police or was going to try to get his stepchild/ren and that if there was one that they would be able to know exactly where we were because of the noise and to them flat out that this was very serious and we all were in real danger and could be critically hurt or worse. After that the jokes stopped and so did the talking until the lockdown was down graded to a locked-in status then we all played games and hung out together. The 5th graders became great helpers for the littles (aka the “babies” of the school). They played toddler/younger kid games and sang songs with us and really took an interest in the little ones. That is now the MAIN reason I don’t let her shut off her phone at school. She NEEDS to be able to get ahold of me. While at school I also put her phone in a locked status so the only thing she can do is call/text me and/or 911. Messages do not notify until her phone is locked and I am able to pretty much control her phone from my phone.

That happened to my youngest son. One afternoon a detective came to our door and said there was a hit list with 5 names on it and my son was one of them. We were shocked. He was very popular with all the kids in high school so it was frightening not knowing who wrote it. He ended up missing a week of school, detectives orders. Homeschooling is the way to go. It's all states. I live on the KY/TN line and all of the surrounding schools have had these threats. Apparently it's been a B reel/ TikTok trend. Thankfully this week we have no had anymore threats. They have arrested around 5 kids so far for threats
It’s social media. It’s parents giving their child/children instead of them working for it. I was raised that anything worth having was worth working for. I hear parents say I feel guilty that so and so has it and mine does not.Guilty?? A parent is supposed to provide a roof over their head, food, clothing and by clothing I don’t mean the latest fads or trends or shopping trips to the mall for $200 jeans , the necessities for life. A child getting a job at sixteen is a good thing. Less time on gaming devices, computers or their phones teach them how to save and budget their money. Stop being their buddy, pal, friend and teach them to respect their parents.
While the majority of their children CAME from foster care and they have been living in a home where they should by now feel secure. Yes, they will have memories of the sad or bad times but when does it come time to MOVE forward instead of using the “they were in foster care and had it hard”. These kids live a life of luxury. Yes, they adopted them and the majority of them have been in this home for YEARS. The Oh wow is me, I was in foster care and I had it hard needs to come to an end. There are many children that grew up in foster care and are successful in life. They took it and decided it was not going to define them. I know. Been there and done it.
I worked from the age of 14, I bought all of my clothes, shoes and school supplies. I studied and made sure to get my education. I went to college and got my degree to work in the medical field. I have traveled the world by being a traveling medical professional. You will not hear me say oh poor me, I was in foster care from the age of 2 and my life was ruined. It made me stronger, QUIT using it as a crutch for these kids. Instead put them on a path to succeed, instead of handing them everything or letting them sit for HOURS on gaming devices. Savannah is going to be a go getter, she will succeed, getting her education, aand vocational training and working a job. She is a busy young lady. Lucas just graduated and has his future plan set up and he works and has since he turned 16.
Life is what you make it. You can either succeed OR you can walk around going pitiful me I was in foster care and I am OWED every thing because of this. Stop using it as a crutch! Use it to succeed.
teaching kids kindness is very important, too! the core issue is mental illness and it comes from many sources, bullying being one of them. teach kids to be a friend to the ''loner'' etc. because they may just find a bestie!
This is just not okay. We need gun reform so badly in the US. Our kids shouldn’t be scared to go to school. If I had kids in school I’d have to homeschool or move out of the city.
You guys are amazing, I wish I was placed with a family like yours when I was in foster care, luckily for me it was just a couple weeks, not the best ones but my mom did everything in her power to get us back asap, just to add, it was an issue that had nothing to do with my mom but my step dad and it affected my mom, my self and my siblings. The only advice I think I can give you is to please just make sure you have a boundary/mandatory with the phones for them two is you take it from them at night, (it's in your room before bed and then you give it back to them for the day.)

You’re not alone with your feelings as a parent. My daughter’s school had a lock down in Jr high school and I pulled her out and she did home school. The stress of her safety was just too much for our family. You have to do what is right for your child and your family.
I work at an elementary school as a lunch lady. There was a gun loaded and found right outside the cafeteria doors and the kids said not to say anything to another boy, luckily he came and told me. I asked the 11 year old what he planned on doing with the gun since he told everyone to keep their mouths shut and he actually got offended. Whose parenting these kids!!!!

I am sure whatever decision is made it will have been with Aaron and Crystal sitting with the children explaining everything, the children giving their opinions etc, then moving forward with the results. It is sad at one time apart from home, schools were considered a safe place for children to be. Aurora and Evie's reactions to new phones was so lovely, Evie saying you thought she was ready for a phone, meant a lot to her. Blessings.

Hi Crystal, For Evie and Aurora, I strongly recommend you make them a Social Story for Emergency Situations and School Lockdowns… The only time that we have school lockdowns here in Queensland Australia 🇦🇺 is for the very rare B***b Threat or when some random person enters school grounds and refuses to leave…
Our Primary School does regular Emergency Lockdown Practice and also regular Fire Drills so that the kids know exactly what to do whenever something scary might happen…
It’s better to be upfront and honest with age appropriate information … It’s the world that we live in today..

Homeschooling children get just as much as children interactions and a lot safer . My kids have done amazing in life one works for the fire department and post office and the other one is a manager of a big company and my daughter is in nursing school and works with people with disabilities and I am a EMT and Medical Assistant we have all been doing amazing and always they have been safe

My 7 and 9 year old have phones. The 7 year old is a watch he can only call approved numbers 911 and text us emergency texts. The 9 year old has a regular cell phone it is important to me that they cab reach us.. we also have 5 years twins that go to the same school so they don't have one but will by 1st or 2nd grade

I am living in The Netherlands and this is definitely not happening in most places. I think the US is definitely in the minority group for gun control. I really feel for all the kids and parents having to deal with living in fear when school should be a safe place. I hope the US administration can make the right decisions to protect their citizens. My youngest foster daughter has major attachment disorders, I got her a phone when she was 8 , she has had it a year now and feels a lot safer knowing I'm always at the end of the phone, she calls me constantly to make sure I am safe and she knows where I am at all times, even though she has a tracker on me.
I have to admit she is now thriving.
You have to do what you need to do, other parents condemned me for giving my foster child a phone . But she needs to know she is safe and loved. X

Thank you for raising visibility to this issue. I work in a school facility in the PNW and it has been a pretty stressful time. We've had a child apprehended disembarking from a bus, and other districts have experienced the same in this wave of threats. This is not what children should be learning at school and it is heartbreaking. Reviewing what we need the kids to do in an event is very traumatic for them (and us) as they ask how they will know if siblings are ok, how to notify parents, if they will be able to check on friends....

Unfortunately it's not just mesa schools I heard about threats at California schools and Ohio schools as well. So Unfortunately it's I think across the USA right now.
Nationwide. I do not understand why this hasn't gotten more attention from the media. I work at a school facility in the PNW. It is terrifying to consider. The district I work in had a child apprehended disembarking from a bus within the last ten days. Having to review what to do in the event....difficult conversations with kids who are just starting out. It is so stressful. There is a trauma just in the understanding that it can happen to us at any time and reinforcing what they need to do, hoping that they will follow that if something happens, fielding questions/comments about how they will be able to check on siblings, friends, trusted teachers in the building. It is incomprehensible and surreal and at the same time very very real. We've emphasized the need to ensure their safety first. I pray that should something happen they will do as we've trained them to do. Virtually every state has had multiple events like this.
As a teacher who has had to participate in lockdowns, the most important thing to communicate with your children is that during a lockdown they should text and absolutely not call until they are safe. Silence is so important and they shouldn’t tie up the phone lines with calls.
Please please please talk to Evie separately, I’m a mum with a now 14 yr old Autistic son. He, like Evie presents as immature, the main thing I have learned along the way (he was diagnosed at 5) is words will be taken literally so you will need to be in a calm safe space and explain things very basically to her, try not to overload with too much information and give her processing time (if you ask her a question count in your head to ten before asking her answer if she hasn’t said anything) it will help her and you with communication skills to aid her.
Good luck, I have so many other ideas I’ve picked up along the way that I would love to share with you should you ever need, love you guys, from one additional needs mum to another- we’ve got this! X

It definitely hurts to think about the kids that just wanted to go to class or eat dinner, but ended up traumatized or injured instead. I hope your kids stay safe and continue to thrive in school!

So glad you got them their own phones. I live about 1 1/2 hours from Appalachia high school in Ga. I have 2 granddaughters in school. One in Ga and the other in Ky. Love the kids and feel so bad for what they are going through.

Whhere i live in Staten Island nyc 3 kids was arrested 1junior high school student 2 high schoolers ! All three found with. Guns and next day a girl was shot outside the school.
That is very sad, my heart goes out to them!
In my son's special needs class they practice lockdowns. They encouraged us to practice it at home. We use short phrases. They tell them it is not safe right now. They reassure them that they are safe with their teachers. They reassure them that the door is locked. They talked to them in soothing voices. The teachers tell the students they can call a parent or a friend if they need to feel safe if they talk quietly. My son has been in a few lockdowns. From the practice that he has gotten it has helped him be less anxious and scared.

I was bullied in school. It was embarrassing, but I learned to over come it and do my best to ignore it. However, back then school didn’t have what is happening now. It breaks my heart because I loved school. Some of my favorite memories of school. I worked in our school district here for over 27 years. While I miss being there I am so happy I don’t have to deal with what is going on now! My heart and prayers go out to all of the kids that are in school. It makes me so sad.

I am in CA and I am glad my son graduated HS last year. Things are getting worse at schools. A few days ago, 2 elementary school kids were caught with (1 with a gun unloaded, and the other was a replica gun.) 2 different elementary schools, same district on the same day. This is crazy. How are parents letting kids get access to guns? I pray for your kids to feel safe in school. ❤ Love Brodys new hair 😍 Congratulations to Evie and Aurora for their 1st phone.
Im so sad that any kid in the US has to have a cell phone on them at all times incase of the worst case scenario. Please use this a reminder that voting for people who believe in 🔫 control is a step in the right direction.
