Try as I might I can't get this Surface RT to do jack shyt. To be honest it was problematic from Day 1 when I got it in 2014 or so, but it's legal trash now. Only utility is the Office suite of apps. Otherwise it's junk

I picked one up because it looks great and cost 90% lower than a new one. My battery lasts 7 hours on use... 7 HOURS! That is a win for me for a old tablet!

You say they didn't make a Windows 10 RT, but Windows S pretty much is that. Both are pretty much lite versions of Windows. Windows S can be upgraded to regular Windows, while Windows RT is stuck on its OS.

@@POULREYES You can check xda forums on surface rt the links for the files and tutorials are there. Altought UA-cam does not work on edge wich is a bummer. Still didn't find a way around it. And still you are limited to arm32 apps. Still the speed boost is significant enough to update. Hoping they can get us an Android port now.

Well worth it with office suite included....access to google docs....can’t change browser from IE but can access and still use Google as search engine...access to Microsoft app downloads....not being updated anymore but fine for general basic use! Original Surface RT was dog slow, Surface 2 was a lot better and the 2520 is the fastest. RT had a lot of potential but Microsoft just wasn't dedicated enough and thats why they killed it and its also why Windows Phone/Mobile died. Microsoft has series issues with dedication, they have have a long list of killed projects, programs and product lines, many of which had a lot of potential.

depends, it can be used with as a second screen but independently, you cannot plug it to another computer. Through the micro HDMI you can plug it to a screen or to a projector... beware though, some late updates thrown to the tablet have blocke the use of internet explorer on the surface rt 1.. I have that problem at the moment.

These aren't totally useless.. I got one of these at a state surplus warehouse and it's been a great rdp client. My girlfriend needed to use a computer and so I set up a VM on a server and let her remote in with it.
I can log on the web to listen to spotify on amy computer but this one...it is useless unless you want to type and just browse the web. If i knew that back when i got it as a gift....i would have returned it

No that would be the surface pro line with x86 processors that can run normal programs. this should be viewed more like older chrome os where you basically have to find a way to use web apps cuz it is not powerful enough to run things locally.

@@Tfaili. Ooh that's a hard one. It came out so long. If it still ran, it could definitely do zoom and would be good to study on. If you get a surface go it would be more than. Adequate for what you need. I used mine throughout college. It just wasn't as comfortable typing on since I had first gen. It only had one angle and wasn't sturdy for typing.
Although there is still hope because there are available exploits on the Tegra 3 and 4 to boot into RCM mode, (like on the Nintendo Switch) where you can take control of the whole system and there is Fusée Gelée which I don't exactly know what it does, but the only problem is that in reality, those exploits are more difficult to pull off because of the rather small hacking scene an lower interest compared to the Nintendo Switch. Plus, for some reason it does not boot Linux for some reason even with secureboot disabled, so big exploits have to be used.

Nope, I have a laptop that came with 10s all I had to do was disable it and it's just plain windows 10 now, works great. Super fast little laptop as well, got it for myself for Christmas last year at my good wife's behest since she jiggled my arm once and I spilled coffee on my Macbook Pro causing total melt down. Cost 500 bucks and well worth it.

I haven't watched it all so forgive me if this comment is redundant- but I work on Chrome on my Surface RT and can download any program or app just fine as long as my device is capable enough to run it. Acrobat reader, Winrar, some disk rewrite programs and even BlueStacks! Caution on BlueStacks though... the ol' RT will eventualy start crying.
I have surface rt with 2 Gb ram still work perfectly the battery lasts for about 7 hours, Microsoft office works.

The lack of Ram would be a really bad problem for performance.
It won't happen because there are so many other components in the M1 that aren't present in other ARM processors.

You don’t have an RT then. They are physically incapable of running x64 and x86 applications because they are ARM processors
