The first time I played FFIX, I was just a little kid. Didn't really care about the levels, equipment and stuff, just kept moving forward to see the story. I still remember the first time I entered Burmecia; it was horrifying. The rain fell endlessly, bodies were strewn upon the streets, and Burmecia's haunting melody kept ringing against my ears. When I finally got through all the rooms and those obnoxious treasure-chest-monsters (mimic), I ran into Beatrix. And holy God above, she decimated my team like a fire blazing in a library. I try countless times again, yet I was too low-leveled, and she was simply impervious. Hell, I didn't even know I should get Quina at the marsh at that time; I tried to go against her with three members. In the end, I had to battle grittily and drag all the way out of Burmecia, back to South Gate, in order to train more and level up. I spent nearly all my potions and my team was a wreck when I finally reached the sweet fountain of South Gate. And that is how I made acquaintance with General Beatrix. She became my favorite character later on.
I remember I always spent serious time leveling up with Quina and getting her blue magic skills. Theres alot of skills you can get such as Mighty Guard.
Some people like a challenge. It's more fun for some of us to battle at level 1 than it is at level 99. Being at level 99 kind sucks when everything dies in one hit.
More of a chance to steal rare equipment than to actually beat her. what's worse you cannot accept your fate and just let her thrash you, cuz you get game over. you have to wait til either enough rounds have passed or you take off a certain amount of HP before she uses the attack that ends the fight.
@Rubyluxxe I think it's more about security than anything. I know an RPG can be absolutely frustrating if you find yourself stuck at a boss that's damn near unbeatable because you didn't "grind" your characters up a few levels in the past.
Best way to avoid it is to pretty much out heal it. It's always gonna deal heavy damage no matte what but damage mitigation and healing will do it's job.
I can see why you didn't feel like leveling your guys up to ensure a quick fight. Training your guys up gets boring after a while. Games are about fun, not work, and I'd like to continue the story, personally.
I was actually twenty something when I fought Beatrix (and I just picked the game back up from PSN.) The bosses weren't hard per say, They were tedious!
I was lv 50 when fought her ;) and still couldnt beat her. (Yup lv 50 in first disc) even used freya trance to jump and stay a long time in the sky throwing lances allowing to kick beatrix ass a long time because she cant use stock break until freya comes down from the jump. yup she is invincible i think i caused more than 20.000 dmg dont remenber well.
umielzevilk i was so mad and i was lvl 60 andcount beat her so idiotic really i hated this game for that idiotic those story writers are so bad icould do tons better story in my sleep shame
Many people concider being overleveled as being NOOB... no, you ain't good at all... but that doesn't mean you suck... after all, you DID manage to get to level 19 early in the game, which, in some way, can be impressive...
It baffles me how anyone could see the need to 'grind' and pause following the storyline to level up the characters. The game is easy enough as it is and hardly ever a challenge for anyone older than 8. The fighting would be boring as hell, if your party was 10+ levels ahead of any enemy you encounter... :/ ...I couldn't even bring myself to put in the hours to finish the chocobo sidequest, because it was so repetitive...
great game beatrix hummiliate you and you cantdo anything to beat her... i would love to have xenogears main character vs her and ID beat the crap out of her so badly sweet revenge
what you need here is a xenogears FEI=ID to beat the crap out of her with one hit this back them maked me so mad i wanted to beat her and lvled to 60 and still lose that focking boss so idiotic ideas they had she humiliate you 3 times and in the end its like..... off you had a reason for doing this ..then.. good enough for me! lets now be freinds .... idiotic as itsstory its also the most idiotic , specvialy in the end where you need your freinds ohhh poor zidan the greatprototype cant figth withough them he lost his power (if he had any lol) the prototype ,pmkey that cant hold a candle to beatrix lol
seems like you guys like grinding the shit out of your characters, I was level 12. Grinding does not equal good at the game. Lol only boring noobs sit there grinding there way up levels.
Beatrix was the most badass character in the whole game.
Man i miss these FF types of games.

What a beautiful city, I wish we got to see it before it got attacked
yo the slash she does is just ridiculous, I felt every cut she did XD
This part terrified me as a child, she just radiates power and you knew there was no way of winning this fight.
5:12 I love how it's just the dramatic theme and no other sound playing during the battle intro, makes it so much more intense
The "Shock" ability is like her signature move. One hit and your KO. 😨
Some people like a challenge.

Bart: Wild Smile!
*On Beatrix, accuracy and evasiveness down*
Beatrix: Wrong game! >.
No, you are right. Not harming her at all can end the battle, but like you said, it takes a lot longer.
More of a chance to steal rare equipment than to actually beat her. what's worse you cannot accept your fate and just let her thrash you, cuz you get game over. you have to wait til either enough rounds have passed or you take off a certain amount of HP before she uses the attack that ends the fight.
hope they add her on kingdom hearts 3
6:49 that Shock...
i always thought grinding was the best course of training and kicking peoples asses...you grind in every single game you play and rpg or mmorpg...
You get all of the Ultimate weapons after mid-disc 3. You don't really miss anything, and you can petrify enemies to get the AP without getting Exp.
YOu were WAY overleveled. First time I got to this battle, I was level 13-14. Afterward, all my other runs, I was level 11,12 tops.
It kinda sucks that you could never actually fight her. She would have made a great optional boss
Emrys Jay agreed

Level hardly matters in FFIX.
Why is Beatrix so badass?
get rekt m8
ho i see well thank im kind of happy to see a game which im good at

Ya she's more of a beast when u are against her
dont u just love it when only reason u can't beat someone u can clearly beat is because plot says u have to loose

those story writers are so bad icould do tons better story in my sleep shame
gatopard77
im gonna do another run and fight her at lv 90 to see how much dmg i can pull out xD
gatopard77 The script writers were bad because you couldn't beat a boss that wasn't meant to be beaten.
k.
+David Thuy yeah man it makes so much sense
You aren't forced to take quina with you. And you were clearly overleveld at that point.
where is your kweena
Quina is 100% optional until the middle of the second disc.
You will someday come to realise that MP and HP arent THAT important. With the best equipment, you can survive almost any attacks even at level 1.
Many people concider being overleveled as being NOOB... no, you ain't good at all... but that doesn't mean you suck... after all, you DID manage to get to level 19 early in the game, which, in some way, can be impressive...

I defeated her easily...your zidane 0:04 is wearing a silk skirt lol
A
i swear you can actually beat her before she uses her final attack....im not sure but i have a hunch that you can...
great game beatrix hummiliate you and you cantdo anything to beat her... i would love to have xenogears main character vs her and ID beat the crap out of her so badly sweet revenge
your level is 11 is it a joke? im sure my level was at 17 or 19 for this fight. or is it juste me?
everyone knows to were a rubber armor type against enemies that use thunder based attacks, you had a rubber helmet why didnt you were it?
NOOB!...well maybe i was relly young
when i was playing it...........i will make another game to see if is the same as before
what you need here is a xenogears FEI=ID to beat the crap out of her with one hit
this back them maked me so mad i wanted to beat her and lvled to 60 and still lose that focking boss so idiotic ideas they had she humiliate you 3 times and in the end
its like..... off you had a reason for doing this ..then.. good enough for me! lets now be freinds .... idiotic as itsstory its also the most idiotic , specvialy in the end where you need your freinds ohhh poor zidan the greatprototype cant figth withough them he lost his power (if he had any lol)
the prototype ,pmkey that cant hold a candle to beatrix lol
