So, after listening to this, I decided to read up on actual Polites in the Odyssey, and how he died and etc. All the sources say very different things, so I guess we really don’t know, but what caught my attention is the fact that he may have been killed by Scylla according to one of these said sources. The torches were the things that told Scylla which men to kill Polites is his light Im sad now
In the musical that Jorge is making and from what I've found Polities was killed by the Cyclops and was actually beat repeatedly by the Cyclops with a club after he had already died

If Epic!Polites was supposed to survive up to scylla, I headcanon that he pushed someone who would have been killed (extra points if it's Eurylochus) and accidentally sacrificed himself (which would build up Mutiny better)
On the one hand, I think we should have more male/male friendships where there is no sign of romance, a good healthy bond between men... on the other, heck, this song is screaming at me to ship it. No problem with them as friends, but it'd be cute as heck, I think.

Okay. As someone who was raised on old books written when it was fine to describe friendship as gentle as it can be, I just LOVED this song! I love then characters are not in love but still can express their feelings so free. Like, if one brother says to another "I love you", it's obvious what it's not romantical love and I find it so beautiful then two character can say the same thing with the same meaning without being relatives. Like, isn't it precious what someone you could not even know once can become so important for you? Isn't it beautiful then friends become each other's strength and hope? Become each other's... light? I'm not sure how to explain it correctly (English isn't my native language) but that's what I absolutly adore in this song💔
I fully agree with you! I translate the lyric "let me be your light" as "let me help you". Polities in this song understands how odysseus feels and he is so gentle with him, and i love it! Thats how true friendships should be! When i hear open arms i smile, because i feel that positive energy too, makes me forget what's gonna happen next. But when i hear this song, can't help but cry, as i feel so understood. You cant not admire the beautiful relationship these guys had.
I wish this stayed, or something similar, cuz when I first listened to the album I was just like “aw, the optimistic guy died, shame :c” There’s no relationship building between Odysseus and Polities, at least open arms isn’t much bout them but bout the positive world view. Actually, in very early versions of the musical, it’s seems that Polites was supposed to survive the fight with the Cyclops, and if we follow that line it’s probable that he was going to survive until the end of the Thunder Saga. Not op, but! There was a period of time where the original versions of the original first five songs (Horse and the Infant, Just a Man, Full Speed Ahead, Ismarus, and Your Light) were uploaded to Jorge’s website! If you can find older versions of videos with every Epic clip in them from before the Troy Saga actually came out, those are probably the versions they have!
I really like this, but Open Arms was probably better for the final song. I love how gay it is lol It does a better job at making you care about Polites, but doesn't serve the narrative as well. I bet it hurt to cut this one, but Epic's better for it.
Honestly I couldn't help but associate this song to Odysseus and Penelope's relationship because of the parallel in this song and "man of the house" with the lines "when life gets hard and when you're lost in the dark" and "in my darkest days Penelope's my drive" and i guess keeping this song would've made their relationship less "important", less of that kind of tbing where i am waiting i my seat ao see them finally reunite, idk how to explain 😂
Dude, it is NOT gay! It's very wholesome and I love that Jay wrote a song between them that shows close friendship but there are no romantic feelings between them. It's a beautiful song that makes me happy to listen to, and that's all we need.

The fact that Jorge wrote this song KNOWING FULL WELL what was going to happen in "Survive" is simply VILLANOUS.
That said, I bawled my eyes out at this song. Beautiful ❤. A real pity it was cut; though for my mental health maybe it's better... 🤔
Actually, in very early versions of the musical, it’s seems that Polites was supposed to survive the fight with the Cyclops, and if we follow that line it’s probable that he was going to survive until the end of the Thunder Saga.

Not op, but! There was a period of time where the original versions of the original first five songs (Horse and the Infant, Just a Man, Full Speed Ahead, Ismarus, and Your Light) were uploaded to Jorge’s website! If you can find older versions of videos with every Epic clip in them from before the Troy Saga actually came out, those are probably the versions they have!

It does a better job at making you care about Polites, but doesn't serve the narrative as well. I bet it hurt to cut this one, but Epic's better for it.
Honestly I couldn't help but associate this song to Odysseus and Penelope's relationship because of the parallel in this song and "man of the house" with the lines "when life gets hard and when you're lost in the dark" and "in my darkest days Penelope's my drive" and i guess keeping this song would've made their relationship less "important", less of that kind of tbing where i am waiting i my seat ao see them finally reunite, idk how to explain 😂
Dude, it is NOT gay! It's very wholesome and I love that Jay wrote a song between them that shows close friendship but there are no romantic feelings between them. It's a beautiful song that makes me happy to listen to, and that's all we need.

If it were to pop back up anywhere in epic it'd probably be from Penelope, or maybe in one of his other projects for a romantic thing. "Let me be your light, let me be the stars you see at night" is cute and sappy.
