Thats awesome man! CONGRATULATIONS! I'm starting all over at 42, degree in music, toured with 3D MAW BAND USMC, fractured my lowest vertebrae, took 10 years to heal and now I'm almost ready to start releasing some content. I have no band, no funds, but I dont care, I just want to drum man. KEEP GOING BRO!!! At your young age you can get there for sure!!!
Hate to say it Amigo but I think you’re a direct drive player. Thanks for the vlog and words of encouragement. I’m 50 but going to hold out to 57 and see if it happens for me. Lmao
High level athletes go through similar issues with their performance. It's called the "yips". I would say save the time you want to use learning your set left footed, and instead find the cause of what's inhibiting your right's performance. I'd bet the fix will take much less time than what you are proposing. Just my two cents. Love your drumming and channel! Keep us posted!
Interesting to see what your meal prep is like, motivates me to start doing my own again. Always cool to watch the technical drum stuff, even though I know nothing about drumming. More gym/eating videos would be real cool, maybe a program review after you finish what you're doing at the moment.
Why not set up lefty for 2 weeks and see how it goes? You avoid the additional x-hats, can use the regular pedal instead of the slave... I'm pretty sure Tama sends you another lefty pedal ;)
I'm also dealing with some right foot fatigue and your contemplating has me wanting to do the same thing. Just gotta get my hands on another set of hats. I've always noticed that I tap my left foot along to songs in the car since I'm not using it to drive and I feel better with it. Not to mention that I'm a lefty that plays drums right handed, so I might break my brain doing this. Awesome vlog Craig!
Bro, switch it all up to the right side and play open handed left. This would switch up your feet like you want, but also give your hands, as their trianed righty, to still get after it. Think Phil Colin's setup but playing it like Carter Beauford, Simon Philips, and Billy Cobham. I started out as a kid playing left lead with my left on the hi-hat and right on the snare because it didn't make sense to cross my hands. My middle school band director made me switch to right hand lead in order to be in the jazz band. Still think he did me a disservice. I've been wanting to switch up the entire thing for a long time, though, and go full left hand setup but play open handed, but that requires buying a left-footed double bass pedal. Good luck man hit me up let me know how it goes!
@@FedericoSala recently suffered the worst wrist sprain of my life man, to the point of having to wear a brace for the first time ever to heal it as I kept getting set back. I'd heal a little and then hurt it again. So great advice, rest and immobilize and then come back stronger.
I think the previous vlog got so many views cuz you yelled at us, listen we all have that part deep down that loves to be bossed around. The meaner you are, the more we love you.... Or I might be way off here😂
Brooo you look so GOOOOOD, absolutely glowing! Also, I was previously on the fence about trying out left foot leading for a while and this totally sold me on the idea.
i love the youtube progression, starting as a reaction channel for $$ now this, your journey has been awesome to watch, and as many have mentioned, please keep up the vlogs in this style, they are very nostalgic of watching the iifym full day of eatings we used to all watch :)
Was wondering what you thought about the new Tesseract song. God damn its good, can't WAITTTT for the album in sept. Love you vlogs dude!! Keep em coming
I quit Cheffing to teach drums full time at 33. So the beginning part made me smile. Scared is not the word 😂 Only took me 18 years of playing to get to the self employed and making a living part 🤣
Not boring at all. When I first started playing, ripped the right side of the drum head, didn’t have enough money to buy another head, learned how to play leading with my left foot
Vloggerman is back! Creg, have you tried the new K paper thin crashes? You should have Zildjian send you some to try if not. I’d love to hear your take on them
Just my input on missing power in your right foot. Maybe you are already but i feel like you could really have benefits in seeing a sports physotherapist. Idk if there are drums specific ones but otherwise maybe a sports physio with a background in cycling (because of the kinda similar positioning and power vectors). Idk I'm just spitballing here but it could be really helpful to get some input on your body position.
dogg your content creation style caught my attention during quarantine and got me back into Stray AND drumming and you ain't gotta respond to this i just hope you see it and add it to the impact you've made on the other people in these comments. thanks!
You're a total beast of a player which obviously matters the most, but I like your vlogs because you are so matter of fact. There's no pretense or bs about them and that's rare nowadays! Keep smashing it lad 💪🥁
Hi man ! Love your content. Also, could you tell me where you got this shirt from ? I have been looking for something similar for a long time but never found one with such shape/sleeve length.
This is turning into a Muscle&Fitness style vlog and Im fucking here for it. Its like CBum being like " And Im going to go smash through the set on the kit for an hour then hit the gym".
Maybe the way you sit in general has an impact on your posture. There could be some compensation happening as a result. Also, maybe your Right is more Leg playing and, your Left more Ankle playing. Meaning the left could always be more relaxed.
Have you looked at doing any kind of unilateral core stability? Side plank marches, overhead kettlebell carries, Pallof press.. this sort of stuff. Intuitively it would make sense to me, if it's something which gets aggravated by longer periods sat at the throne. I reckon the less unnecessary movement you have at your torso, the better the 'signal' will be getting through to your legs
You gotta get off the glycogen energy source. Maybe do a modified carnivore that way your bodies burning ketones more than glycogen. Are you trying to be bulky boy and get jacked and look like a superhero?
If you care for some unsolicited feedback... everything is top notch but when holding the camera it's all over the place and a little disorienting. For a non-drummer like me what is the point of adding the closed hats to the right side? Is it just a balance thing for leading with the left foot?
Awesome vid man! Been having the same thoughts myself lately regarding sitting dead on to the kick drum vs angled. Cool to see a vid like this and you changing pedal settings etc!
Overnight Oats are LIFE. Air Fryer is LIFE. Love watching these vlogs, you're an entertaining motherlover and I really enjoy hearing your process towards improving your technique.
I love most variations of overnight oats. My fav couple ways is Greek yogurt with steel-cut oats and berries. Or coconut milk with steel-cut oats, fruit, and honey. 🤤🤤
I use my weekends as "Lefty" days now. I have a 2nd kit setup entirely left handed and work with it on my weekends so i can drive the coordination. Then on weekdays I get less practice, and use it to continue my dominant stuff. Never stop having goals. Sometimes you have to create new goals just to challenge yourself. Keep pushing!
Comparing the symetrical set-up with squatting is so accurate, I’ve played maybe five years with the kit straight before listening to my body and placing the kick at an angle. Suddenly every thing is easier😮
As a kid and even into adulthood, I've always led with my left foot on skank beats and odd syncopated parts. Don't know why, just feels better. Better separation and crispness.
Same thing happens to me mate. I had an old skating injury that I didn't let heal and went from using a single pedal like a beast for double time punk beats to having to go to a double pedal just to be able to do it overnight. Never came back. My left feels totally normal but my right is fucked up. I have to use heaps more leg muscle to get my right foot to do what I want it to do. This has now caused me to lose a lot of coordination. I can no longer just use my ankle without using my whole leg as one movement if that makes sense. Could be back related as well, who knows, I'm 41 haha. It's frustrating as fuck though. Gave up skating around 20 and I'm still playing drums professionally now. Wish I'd never picked up a board lol
Hey dude love the vlogs please keep doing them. I wish I could sit through podcasts but I love the merch and will buy some soon. Thanks for all you do brother.
Was so into drums for about 4 years before I could buy and have a space to play, I car drummed a lot so naturally used the left foot as it was less busy and was a huge fan of Travis Orbin and Gene Hoglan that I forced myself to play ambidextrous. Was easier than I thought except for open hand ghost notes…cross stick just has a feel that I can turn my brain off and not think about playing ghosts.
Great content for dinner-making as always, Craig! I feel the exact same way with power/comfort better on the left foot. Also find my mind has an easier time adjusting to more complex rh/kick grooves - like it’s splitting the mental load more hemispherically even. I appreciate your existence!
8:58 Don't they both use chain drive pedals? At least Eloy prefers chains. :D Nonetheless, please keep us updated on the Dyna Syncs, since they're pretty affordable direct drives. Thanks! :)
Good to see you coming to Nashville, it's a pretty neat city. Just wish our local scene was stronger. Looking forward to more episodes man! Also didn't know Mr. Hoglan leads with the left foot. That's more than enough of a reason to try it!
Bought a set of dyna sync pedals a while back and had a weird experience with them. Either too heavy but mega powerful or too light and overly responsive. Tried to get along with them for a while but ended up trading them in for some iron cobras. Part of the experience could be to do with my foot technique but I definitely found them to feel unusual compared to other pedals.
Sorry to hear that about your right foot. I've been experiencing that lately as well. It's a pinch nerve in my back that's causing it, and damn it hurts like a mofo when it flares up. Been trying yoga and inversion therapy, which seems to lesson the flare up.
At 29 this year I finally played my first major fest. Everyone contemplating quitting, listen to this man. Push through. Things will happen.

Right spring too tight? Fatigue might happens especially if you play extreme stuff! let ur body rest and come back stronger 💣💣

Never boring! Quite the opposite, in fact. Booyah, mf! 🤘🤘
Thank you for this vlog man. I’m a 27 yr old and contemplating. Thank you for the words of advice and perspective
Dude I'm 42 and wish I would have not stopped. My advice is stay single, dont have kids, and keep your head on straight and go for it!
if you're playing left footed are u then gonna be controlling the hi hat with ur right foot? getting that coordination down might be a bit toughh 😬

......or anyone passing through, or meeting him there.
@@gamandstuff1048 yes. Obvious.
Thanks for the awesome content Craig u the best.
what are you talking about? learning the whole set on the left foot? nah mate.. play the kick track live. 😂😂😂😂😂

Ugh. Just the nicest sounding kit ever. Those toms....👌
Had the Dyna-Sync and somehow the slave was not as smooth as the master. Killed me, because I liked the feel a lot.

I’ve always kept my kick drum, turned to the side because when I first started playing i used two kick drums, so It kind of just stuck with me

Decent tasty carb injection
Zildjian live is huge! Congrats. You’ll smash it 💪🏻
You should get a Trick driveshaft for the pedals if you don't already have one. Makes a huge difference on tama slave pedals.
