I don't think it's for me Personally. I'm not A huge fan of tactical rpgs that have battles that take a while to complete. I don't mind playing some turn based rpgs, Action rpgs or Jrpgs that don't overstay their welcome.

@jonahabenhaim1223 I didn't think it was for me, either. However, what makes it way better, especially for those of us who arent all that into SRPGs..you can change the difficulty. There is very easy, easy, etc...and also, you can fast forward during the enemies turns, so it makes the battles shorter. Some do still take a fair amount of time to complete, but it makes it easier to deal with

As someone who loved this game, I do have to disagree when you say the amount of dialogue is over exaggerated. Just know going in that you will be spending about half the game doing dialogue, walking around the towns, doing cutscenes etc.
They’re pretty well done overall. But you should be aware the amount of like grid combat to rpg gameplay is about half and half in my experience. And even as someone who doesn’t typically love games with huge focus on story, this one is worth your time for sure. I most likely will not be doing a second play through tbh I felt like the journey was a long enough one for me. But huge reccomend if you haven’t played it, or if you’re intimated to jump into SRPG type games

This game held my attention from beginning to end which is rare. The combat was more streamlined than tactics ogre/FF and more but not baby mode like FE which is the perfect balance.
While the story borrows a bit too much from GoT it diverges enough to keep you enthralled.
My only gripe that I hope will get fixed in a sequel is that you can tell they skimped on the production by not animating any character portraits or adding any cutscenes. I’m sure this was to keep costs down since they weren’t sure how it would do.

    • @Morgan-ky1gr
      @Morgan-ky1gr 9 місяців тому

Agreed, I really hope they can at least add the profiles while the characters are talking, since the artwork was really good in my opinion.
Regarding GoT, that wasn’t too much of an issue for me since GoT is one of all-time favourite sagas, but I do understand that a bit more originality would have been nice

While it does share a look with Final Fantasy Tactics, I think a better comparison would be the Shining Force games; instead of customizable units capable of becoming any type of fighter, the customizing comes in choosing what kind of units to field in the fights. Also, you can change the difficulty between battles, so if you are finding what you chose to not hit the sweet spot of what you want, by all means take it up or down a notch! Like Erick, I highly recommend this game, even New Game + mode is fun, as the battles scale up to continuity provide a challenge.

You're often more in disadvantage than advantage, especially in number, but i feel the game it's fair most of the time if you know how to use the terrain. The battle of Frederica is an example, while fighting in a bridge and also watching that some npc cross safely can be stressing, the fact that it's only one path helped me: i froze everything with Corentin my goat, and the enemy barely could advance on ice, the i used Erador as a kind of wall in the only path and attacked with mages. Those restrictions can be dealt changing units, i don't feel the game's conditions arbitrary but that's my feeling.

I actually think this is the best modern SRPG for beginners to start with as it's very easy to get into and has the depth that those who go hardcore are looking for. This game basically takes a lot of the better aspects of multiple SRPGs, it has Fire Emblem's class progression without the weapon triangle or having to worry about gear configuration, it has the movement style of FFT and TO: Reborn with a better camera lol. Also I think the reason there tends to be complaints about it being a visual novel is because almost all the dialogue is actually voice acted so you notice it way more, but it's honestly no different then anything from previous SRPGs. This is also probably the friendliest SRPG in almost all terms across the board even taking the mechanic from Super Robot Wars where if you lose a battle no sweat, you get to keep all the XP and Levels you've earned so just keep trying, explore your options with no fear, it's ok.

I actually found the Action points system to be a very elegant way of managing skills in battle. Most MP systems kinda dull out after a certain point in most srpgs/jrpgs, but with a preset amount of a handful of points that you can slightly upgrade as you go skill management scales alongside the difficulty of the game.

An ending that can only be obtained on a new game plus. Forcing you to play the whole thing again. I really hate when developers do that, specially if you can get the requirements already on a first playthrough, making it so that you get a different outcome in spite of doing the exact same thing!

You can absolutely get the Golden Ending on the first play through, although you'll likely want to look up a guide so you can know which routes and actions to take to reach it. My friend somehow stumbled his way into it, but I'm doing a second run through to get it myself. I can tell you that while there is a fair amount of set pieces no matter the route, I'd estimate that maybe 30-40% of the story fights can change based on what path you took.

Played through it twice, did not realize there's a 'true ending'. Uh oh.

i'm not stranger for this kind of games, previously played Disgaea 2, and tried playing Utawarerumono the original one.
but the problem with these games is.. they are very unforgiving. and quite annoying! so i dropped them.

The demo made me want to actively avoid the story. Immediately it came across as dry and boring. I'm sure the gameplay is excellent and right up my alley, but I can't do too much dry writing in long cutscenes.

My biggest gripe with the game may be that it takes 4 playthroughs to get all the characters.
