Hi everyone! My next video will be another guitar lesson, featuring two solos from one of my favorite guitar players. I'll give you a little hint: the song is definitely made for summer. ❤🎸😎
Went to their site on Sunday and the FFLPS's were available...I bought one - the Desertburst - and it's tracked to arrive here by Monday...after reading/watching/listening to all the hype and reviews, and all of the positive vibe about these guitars, I can't wait. I've got a pair of Whole Lotta Humbuckers from Seymour Duncan and a pair of BUrstbuckers from a Gibson Les Paul Standard to try out in it too at some point, but initially, I'll put new strings on it, set it up, and play it bone stock to see what it's really like in MY hands...who knows, their 338 may be next! $159!!! thanks for the video...you've got a new subscriber.
Hi Dave ! That Lizard Burst really looks awesome and sounds great in your hands! I think we agree for a entry level guitar the Firefly is surprisingly good, but trying to do a lot of upgrading is a potential waste of money when it could be spent on a higher quality guitar to start with! I would have killed to have the Firefly for a first guitar instead of the piece of crap I bought !!!! You are so right when you said a good player can even make a low budget guitar sound good I saw Jimmy Page playing a Danelectro starter model and my jaw hit the ground!LOL Thanks for all the cool tutorial videos and guitar reviews you've done. I'm glad you have had fun with the Firefly. After all, that's the main reason to play is having fun! Best regards, Bob
Hey Bob! Yeah this would make an amazing first guitar. Weight might be a bit much for little kids, but for teens and adults, for sure. My first guitar was a mutt LOL. Still wish I had it though... sold it a few years later when I got my third guitar. It was built by Mike DeTemple, who now runs DeTemple guitars. Boutique builder who has done work for Joe Walsh, John Fogerty, Bob Dylan and others. I know that sounds fancy, but back then I'm guessing my dad paid him $50 for whatever he had laying around. This was before Mike had his business and we were living across the street from him in the valley north of L.A. I remember in the case, in the inside storage compartment, was a little vile with white residue in it. As a 12 year old kid, I thought "wow, that's rock and roll!" :) Thanks again! :)
@@PDXguitarfreak Not to shabby having a Mike DeTemple guitar !!! It will be interesting to see if Firefly evolves into a real guitar company with a legacy enough to offer a legitimate high end guitar. For now, the Firefly is a fun club to be in and share this remarkable guitar with friends and jamming buddies!
I bought a bright green FFLP Classic last year. Installed Earnie Ball 3227 strings, No complaints, rich sound, holds tune pretty well. Tuners are good, truss rod is butter. Silver-look Classic models available for $180 sale price. Gold-look Elite models for $200 sale price. I couldn't resist a 2022 sale price of $169 plus $18 shipping.
Hi. Thank you for making this video. I really enjoyed watching this. I own one of the Elite models in black with gold hardware and love it. I actually play it more than my real Gibson Les Paul. I would offer the following regarding the pickups FWIW. First don't give up on them right away. Try adjusting the pickup heights first, then the pole pieces. I set mine to Gibson specs. That's a good starting point. Tweak them from there. If that doesn't get the sound you are looking for, try replacing the capacitors with different values and then the pots. Last thing to change should be the pickups. I have saved my clients lots of money over the years doing exactly this. Hope this is helpful to someone. Take care and thanks again.
I just got one of these, they are a nice replica of a 50s Les Paul, baseball bat necks, one piece body reminiscent of the normal 9 to 12 pound body's found on Les Pauls from the fifty's, and believe it or not original PAFs were microphonic too, these FFLPs make a great platform for upgrades..
I agree about more subtle bursts. I ordered one last week in Smoke burst but haven't received it yet. It's sitting in my state but apparently is held up by "bad weather conditions", which is a load of BS because we are not having any bad weather in our area 😠.
@@PDXguitarfreak I dont have one of those les paul, I do have a chinese zack camo bullet les paul, but that LP looks good, I think the green work, I would like to play it
These guitars do have some hype alright. And beware they do have some bad ones, some really bad, and customer service sucks bad. I know a few people who had bad experiences, luckily you have paypal to back you up. Nice review, but a lot of people leave out details about the neck.
I'd like to buy one but I'm not good with hardware and I hear that some are lemons. And I've emailed their customer service with questions and no one has responded so far.
I am a disabled military veteran and you would recommend this guitar for under $200? I do you have full use of my arms but I can't stand up and play. Thanks
How would you compare this to the Harley Benton Les Paul copies? i have a few with active pickups and did alot of work to them (fretwork and truss rod) and the pickups area way way to hot.
HoneyBurst Flying V for me! Went on a spree, hee hee! Two more V's and four Les Pauls while I could find them @ Guitars Garden + Reverb... Love me some Firefly! Rock on!
A word (or two) of warning. I shipped mine back due to a defective bridge. After three weeks I heard back. They refunded only the cost of the guitar. Not for $27 shipping or $66 Fedex ground return shipping. Actually, they refunded $27.96 for shipping to me and then deducted a PayPal fee which was to the penny what original shipping was. SO... just figure if you get this guitar you will be keeping it... defective or not, it is yours. Basically I spent $93 for a learning experience. You'll notice in their fine print about returns... they may refund the cost of the guitar, but no mention about shipping. Return shipping will be through the roof due to the size.
I don't know if this company is connected with the IVY guitar co. a lot of these brand's are made in the same factory, but if it's anything like the Ivy LP copy, spending the under 200.00 price point for the guitar is only a get you in the door of owning a LP copy, when the control knob's were taken off the hole's were drilled to wide and they used scrap piece's of wood to shim it up, it also has no wheel's on the bridge to adjust the action, it has washer's. What I'm putting out here, is that for the money you would have to spend to even get it up to Epiphone standard's you would need to pay around 200.00 to make it decent. I'd myself rather just buy an Epiphone and know I am going to get a decent guitar ( Most of the time).
Hello. Great video. I have got a question, could anyone tell me is FFLP is the same as FFLPS? or what does that last letter S mean? thank you in advance.
Resellers are not douche bags. They have a product to sell at a higher price due to supply/demand principles. D'ont blame the resellers for their price.
Well if someone buys and then changes their mind, and knows they can get it at a higher price, good for them. I'm referring simply to the people that were snatching up such guitars simply for the purpose of reselling to make a profit off others. That's kind of douchey thing to do, in my opinion, especially when you consider they are likely fleecing the ignorant. :) Fortunately, the guitars are now easy to come by for those that want them.
Hold on!. Les Paul copy?, I thought les paul is the name of the shape body guitar. Also, should I go to guitar center and tell them, don't sale this "X" guitar brand more for what you paid originally? If in their website you can't find a "x" model guitar and you get it from someone else, because they bought cheap and try to make money, we shouldn't? If I'm not mistaken, Gibson les paul guitars used to be sale waaaaaaaay more cheap on 60's during their time production according with my old friend, comparing with the prices that cost a guitar from these years. So, business is business, right?
Hey man, I just went onto the Guitar Gardens website, and I see this particular model/finish for $189.99... several others for 3 cents less, and for $10 less.
Well this guitar is okay for the money obviously the people watching and the people making some of these videos if not explored other brands such as iyv or grody as both of them come in under $200 and don't have the issues that fireflies do almost every round they are released
No. Get a Harley Benton SC-400 Gold Top for $133 (before shipping) to be really blown away! I have hardly stopped playing mine, and I own REAL Gibson Les Pauls. The HB is just that good. Naturally it could use better pickups, but you have a million of those to choose from.
Being a guitarist takes a lot of commitment and if you don't even have the commitment to pay for a genuine guitar... every copy is a piece of crap. I have seen many of the abominations.
My collection probably has too many relatively expensive guitars... I think after a certain price threshold, playability doesn't change too much. That said, I've also played my share of really crappy low cost instruments, as you are referring to. Compared to others at this price point, I found the Firefly to be a pretty decent build. I would have loved to have a guitar like this when I was starting out. :)
How long have you been committed to playing guitar? I've been playing over 50 years, and have played and owned very cheap to very expensive ones. Your opinion of what is crap is only your opinion.
Hi everyone! My next video will be another guitar lesson, featuring two solos from one of my favorite guitar players. I'll give you a little hint: the song is definitely made for summer. ❤🎸😎
Summer Nights? 😯
No, but great guess! It doesn't have summer in the title... but it's in the chorus :)
@@PDXguitarfreak first thing that came to mind with that description is Alice Cooper - School’s Out...
“School’s out, for summer!”
Ahhh, another good guess... but nope :)
Dave ..would it be “Magic” by The Cars...a little Elliott Easton maybe??
I like how you snuck that lay it down solo in the background. 🤘🏻 I’m actually learning this solo from your video!
I have 2 FFLP, both are fantastic!!! Good review, Great play demo!!!

I just got a black one, had to level one fret, other than that typical new guitar setup, would start by replacing the bridge then tuners
Off topic Dude you rock!
I'm blown away, both pickups sounded amazing, that's the best clearest tone yet, what amp were you using.
Beautiful guitar there my friend
looks great
Thanks you should do a review too :)
@@PDXguitarfreak I dont have one of those les paul, I do have a chinese zack camo bullet les paul, but that LP looks good, I think the green work, I would like to play it
I went to the website and almost every guitar listed was sold out. Seems like there's a lot of demand for these.
Still love your channel 😅
Hi Nice guitar! Would you say that it is on par with an Epiphone Les Paul Standard?

Thanks and I hear you. That's why I said this was only my experience... I've heard a few of the bad experiences too.
Very cool guitar for under $200. I have custom pedalboard I made with that same exact staining color as the front of that guitar.
I have the FF338. Pretty dang nice for the price.
I'd like to buy one but I'm not good with hardware and I hear that some are lemons. And I've emailed their customer service with questions and no one has responded so far.
Want one so bad but can't get them outside the US 😞

Yes, without a doubt.

What's the white guitar on the wall with the tremolo bar?
It's a baritone guitar, made by Reverend
What is the signal chain for the lead tone in this vid?
The guitar straight into my Line 6 Helix, and then right into the PC.

You have to compare the buying power of 1960s money to today's. Les Paul is Gibson/Epiphone only, these are referred to as Single Cuts.
I'm not seeing it for that price
