Thanks to you, me being a guy with no mechanical experience has changed two ignition coils, a thermostat, PCV valve, and will be changing the windshield washer pump. My M5 is now running great. I am so glad that I found your channel. Thank you again!
That’s awesome man, good on you for getting stuck in and having a go, sounds like your mechanical competency is increasing as your car runs better and better. Thank you for watching, comments like this make it all worth while!
wowwwww. was it nerve racking? or pretty simple once you get started?
@@livinglegacy8429 Not as bad using his guides. The hard part is working in such tight spaces. Mainly the number 5 and 10 cylinders being so close to the firewall.
Just got gifted a 2007 750Li with merino leather. This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you.
That’s not a bad gift to receive!
@@XxGrimReaperX8 Merino is BMW’s top end leather, it’s cows leather, super soft and holds up if looked after properly. Mines 16 years old with zero cracks. Nappa has a slight protective coating
Super helpful, thank you.
Glad you found the video useful. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Thanks mate, my 330 is 4 yrs old now, so I need to get this done to my Merino leather ASAP !
330 has Dakota leather not merino. Dakota leather is pretty durable compared to the merino.
Lmao merino leather in a regular 3 series not M version
Wow, once a month on the driver's seat. I was doing it yearly. Think I need to up the ante :)
Yes, if you drive the car everyday, 5 minute job. I did that with my coupe which is nearly 20 yrs old, the red leather seats are like new!
great video buddy, seems to be the only real instructional video on youtube spefically for Merino leather - kudos to you sir!
question, how often should we clean the merino leather? is once every 3 months okay u reckon?
Thanks man, appreciate it! If your car lives outside I would aim for 3 months (because the UV can take its toll on the leather) if it lives in a garage you can probably get away with 6 months. If you daily drive the car I would do the drivers seat once every couple of weeks to keep the merino supple. It gorgeous leather aye! Cheers for checking out the video 👍
@@MTechGuy yeah it is gorgeous indeed, i have tartufo merino on mine, i went to the bmw dealership the other day and felt the dakota or was it vernasca leather - felt nasty mate
anyway the merino does spoil you :)
I know what you mean! The merino certainly does spoil you, the only thing is it’s super delicate
Used autoglym leather care balm on my dakota leather, did use much but I have some white residue left. Probably because I didn't clean the exess off?
Probably best to use bmw care products in future.
Never had any residue issue with the BMW product
Is the “upgrade” from Napa to Merino really worth it?
Yes! I It’s super soft, but does have to be looked after to maintain. If I was given the choice and I had the funds I’d certainly go for merino
Is ceramic coating the leather detrimental? I'm going to be daily driving my new m5 with silverstone Merino maybe 40k miles a year and will be keeping the car forever so I want to make it last.
I wouldn’t use ceramic coating on merino leather. I’ve used the BMW leather care for years, it’s been great for my daily drivers too if applied regular
@@MTechGuy does that prevent dye transfer at all? I just don't want my leather looking every color of the rainbow after 2-3 years. It's so hard to get consistent advice, everyone says something different but I didn't think ceramic coating was good because it wouldn't let the leather breathe but others say it's fine because it's made for leather...
Not really, the key is to clean it and feed it often. Daily driver I would do the whole interior every 3 months, the drivers seat once every week or two. You have to be committed if you want it looking nice and lasting. Merino is unsealed, and super soft, you want to be careful what you use on it, or you can end up wrecking it
What is best for black perforated full leather seats?
Use the same products, but apply using a few light coats with the conditioner rather than one whole lot at once, to prevent the perforations getting clogged
@@MTechGuy thank you
Nice video, but that leather doesn't even look like it's nappa leather, let alone merino.
The grain is just to coarse.
It’s merino
Good video but that looks more like dakota leather instead of merino
Cheers rexpontiusful. It’s 100% merino leather
@@MTechGuy hmm ok, in newer models (F and G series) the merino leather is very smooth, very fine structure. Maybe different production method. Anyhow, the video on the cleaning is great 👍
Agreed. This looks like the Vernasca leather, not Merino.
TBH, that looks way more like the Vernasca leather than the Merino leather. Merino doesn’t have a pebbled texture and the Vernasca does.
It’s Merino, as per the vehicles build list, and you can physically see and feel its Merino
@@MTechGuy no. No, I can’t see that it is. Literally 5 or 6 different people on here have told you that it’s not. That should tell you something. Merino leather NEVER has a pebbled surface texture. The leather in your video does have that texture added (clearly) so it is not Merino leather. You are either mistaken or being deceptive.
@@RB-xv4si Everyone’s an expert aye, deciding it’s something it’s not just by looking at it through the screen on their device. I suggest you go look at the Merino in an E60 M5 in real life
@@MTechGuy I owned an 2016 F80 M3 with full Merino leather for 3 years. I think I’m highly qualified to decide what does and doesn’t look like Merino leather. Even a Joe blow can go and google it and have a good idea of what it looks like.
An F80 M3 is different, go look at an E60 M5 with merino, you won’t find one without merino that doesn’t look like this
👍💯🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
That looks like dakota leather. The cheap leather. Merino leather in Bmw is smooth…not pebbled.
It’s Merino, Merino is a semi-aniline leather with the grain visible
@@MTechGuy I just sat in a 2023 M3 with Merino and the leather is completely smooth. It’s not pebbled at all.
Go look at an E60 M5 with merino leather, verify it with the build sheet and literally the look & feel of the leather, then come talk to me
@@MTechGuy then the E60 merino looks like crap. It looks exactly like Dakota leather.
@@drumsac3004 Merino is super soft and has a natural grain structure, Dakota has a “pebbled” finish and is much harder- very different leathers
