- I want to introduce to you this blood-thirsty cactus. It’s a cactus from the genus Cylindropuntia or cholla cactus. I wasn’t careful and I let myself get into trouble. I stepped on the cactus.This dangerous cactus’ habitat ranges from southern USA to Mexico, South America and some Caribbean islands. Cylindropuntia cactus is different from other cactus because it’s spines has tons of barbs much like fishing hooks. This cactus hides alongside the road or trail in order to attack careless humans and animals. If you touch one of them, the form a chain and quite literally jump onto you. They have a spring effect that makes it look as if they are attacking you from nowhere. They stick to your skin and clothes and it is very painful. If you’re going to try too free yourself, they try to fight back and enter your skin deeper. When they get to the capillaries, it can cause bleeding bruising and a hematoma under the skin. Don’t try to get rid of them with your hand since they will attach themselves to your finger. Use an instrument. Clamps, brush or gloves or even a tree branch can do the job just so that You don’t hurt yourself. These spines have a line of fishhooks that only allow the spine to go in one direction, which is deeper and deeper into your skin. Be careful because they can easily break off and can become a splinter and cause inflammation or infection. But don’t worry, salty water softens them and makes it easier to get them out. You cannot die from this cactus but in a case where you fall onto a cactus there can be some consequences. Getting speared by one of the spines can soon cause swelling an redness. Worst case scenario, it can cause gangrene or your skin may die as a result of the initial swelling and redness. You have to be extremely careful. I don’t wanna have another bad experience with this cactus ever again. I removed the spines but they were still in there and I had splinters for a long while after the encounter. The barbs made it much harder to take them out. This whole process is simply for vegetative propagation of this cactus. The top segments of this plant fall off, attach themselves to someone, and spread root themselves and develop into new plants. THE BAD NEWS

How does Jesus save a sinner?
From the beginning of the bible to the end, God has only forgiven sins through a BLOOD SACRIFICE, because he is a Holy God he can't forgive sins any other way, Heb 9:22 tells us, "...without shedding of blood is no remission." when Adam sinned, God had to kill a lamb in Adam's place as a substitue, In the Law of Moses, a Blood Sacrifice was demanded for the forgiviness of sins.
Jesus came to die for the sins of the whole world, he came to be OUR Blood Sacrifice, OUR substittue, he came to bear OUR sins on the cross, in OUR place. John 1:29 "...Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world."
What must you do to be saved?
YOU MUST REPENT; You must change from unbelief to belief.
admit you are guilty, that you cannot do anything to save or help save yourself, and that you need Jesus Christ as your savior.
Titus 3:5 "Not by works of righteousness which we have done. but according to his mercy he saved us,"
Romans 3:28 "Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law."
Romans 4:5 "But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness."
YOU MUST TRUST; placing your complete faith in what Jesus Christ already did to save you;
John 1:12 "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:."
Salvation comes by believing in WHAT Jesus did for you, 1 Cor. 15:1-4 tells us "Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the GOSPEL which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are SAVED, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, HOW that Christ died for OUR SINS according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:"
All you have to do to be saved, and on your way to heaven is place your TRUST in the shed Blood of Jesus Christ and nothing else, as sufficient for your salvation, (Rom 3:25 "Whom God hath set forth to be a PROPITIATION through FAITH IN HIS BLOOD, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;")
(Propitiation means the act of appeasing wrath, Jesus took your place on the cross.)
Will you accept Jesus Christ as your savior by simple faith, simply trusting in his shed Blood for sufficient to save your soul from hell?
The last sentence is all you must do to be saved, and that is FAITH, not works, TRUSTING in what someone else did for you is the only thing that is not a work.

As someone who spent her childhood walking around barefoot in the Arizona desert, I have two things to add to this conversation.
1) It's a Spanish name, so it's pronounced choya.
2) The best way to get rid of all those tiny spines is to cover the area with a thin layer of Elmer's glue. When it dries, peel off the layer of glue. The spines will come off with the glue. This is a trick park rangers use.

look closely, you can see that when she tries, it springs back into her leg, causing them to go even deeper, and leaving the spines in her leg.
Its not that you can't take them out with your hands, its just that they have a tendency to be sticky and their fish hook like spines could wind up sticking into your fingers as well... If you've never been pricked by a cactus in your life, let me tell you, its not a fun experience. And without something to grip them with, it is much harder to pull them out as they can stick to your fingers as well. These are also not the "Jumping cacti" That she is talking about either. They're much rounder and if you get too close, part of the plant detaches and literally jumps into you.

"Crocs" sounds like "crocodiles", which are strong and can kill just about any animal. They sound perfect for the desert.
