@@leeder- Yeah, I was reading an interview of his before and the interviewer was talking about how they were much better together when she acted less like an interviewer.
Not that I know Alex G, and in fact it's impossible to know him purely from interviews, but dang he said very little in those 6 minutes lol. And yet I understood what he meant, you don't need many words to give out that much meaning. Impressive that someone of few words can say and mean so much in his music, reminds me of my personality and my thoughts (But they're not songs, at least not yet)
It's always risky deciding to watch the first interview of a new artist you're into. I'm so relieved to see Alex G is just a chill dude who really likes making music
He is comparable to Elliott Smith in that sense, but there is and only will be an alex g and an Elliott Smith. They are nothing alike and not copying anything else which is what gives them such a great quality. But the both have the same mindset on "lyrics over the music" or whatever you wanna call it. So replaying their songs never gets old like Alex is kinda pointing out here in this interview
@@donnatelliunderwood2592 he literally does sound like Elliott smith, and it isn't a bad thing, I'd never have known who this guy was if it wasn't for my friend who knows I'm into Elliott smith saying "check this guy out" And now he's become one of my most influential artists, it's not always a bad thing you know.
@@misanthropexoxo9618 idkk i just put all of elliott smiths songs on shuffle and the very first one sounded exactly like alex g😭 or i guess alex sounds like elliot. idk i dont think its a bad thing at all. but i get what youre saying because at the same time its just so different
Alex lyrics became much more meaningful along the years, you can see how he's able to manipulate the abstract thoughts he had earlier in his career much easier now. Some good examples are Southern Sky, Walk Away, those lyrics touch me so deeply, I wish he could see what his music means for me.
Ya its like the truth in what his lyrics mean are more abstract and “hidden” metaphorically, because he’s grown so much and learnt to have his lyrics have a connection to all sorts of people in different ways.
Yeah I agree, I love memories but the beginning verse about a friend hooking him up with cocaine doesn’t really hit it for me but I find the middle and end parts about how he’s stuck in bed thinking about a memory of exchanging cds with someone just for them to leave the cds and that they left with some unclear messages.
he is a genius, his progression as an artist is beautiful and his growth is so inspiring. sandy is truly the first artist whose music has deeply affected my life. I genuinely get upset thinking about how I didn't find him earlier in life.
My theory is he just wanted a different version because he saw the cool kids trap dancing to it at his concerts. Also his collaboration with zev magasis fit perfectly with this alternate version.
this is the least awkward i’ve ever seen alex in an interview. he usually looks like he doesn’t wanna be there lmao this is really nice
i think it had a lot to do with the interviewer. she conducted this interview very casually which worked well with alex's personality i believe.
@@leeder- Yeah, I was reading an interview of his before and the interviewer was talking about how they were much better together when she acted less like an interviewer.
He done grown up also he loves Europe

bros insanely chill
fckn same, im also surprised im just now realizing he is jesus
I never understand why people are so quick to compare alex to other artists all the time. kinda bums me out. to me he's always just been alex g.

walk alway’s lyricism is so beautiful
this is the best interview of alex i've ever seen. way to go to the interviewer for making him feel comfortable!!
fun fact: this guy is a genius
Finally a more recent interview of him and a good one too

alex is so sweet dude i love him way too much
Same (i saw you in another alex g interview video too Lmao)
This was such a great video, really nice interviewer!
thanks so much!
This is sick, such good questions and answers which actually gave interesting insight into how he feels about his music and his process
thanks so much!
great questions
best alex g interview i’ve ever seen
That last comment about lyrics hit me like a brick
I see what u did there
Hugging him with my mind
He's like a sleepy Dave Grohl
sleeby or higgh :D
Dave Grohl mixed with Eric Koston is Alex G
@@tat3w thank you for wording my thoughts. i thought about it but i haven't thought about it if u know what mean.

So interesting. I’ve seen some musicians say that lyrics don’t really matter. I guess to each their own
They really do

snooze ya lose
What a cool dude i wish i could make music with him. One of the few modern artists that actually makes good music.
Alex's music is so wonderful. This is the first interview I've seen of his and he's really lovely.
what an absolute sweetheart the interviewer was. clearly adjusted herself to mr g.'s aversion to 1on1 type interviews
wtf are u talking about loser?
Brilliant wee interview! Thank you! ♥️
What a perfect dude
really good interview!
thanks so much!
Alex is the new Townes Van Zandt as far as songwriting. (If you are unaware who Townes is, do yourself a favor and look him up)
This is a year old comment but honestly it is spot on.
man i love alex g
I love this dude so much
Alex is and always will be the G
thank you!! great interview :)

Alex G > Mac DeMarco

i agree but yk it’s subjective
Mac Demarco, Alex G, and Beach Fossils are the holy trinity of artists.

weird comparison wtf lol???
how about we don’t compare them and just enjoy their great music, eh?

I wonder why they chose “fairylike” as the descriptor. I don’t really understand but I like it! His lyrics are strange and elusive for sure
he's just great
i would love to make music like this one day

anyone know anything about this alternate version of bad man??
My theory is he just wanted a different version because he saw the cool kids trap dancing to it at his concerts. Also his collaboration with zev magasis fit perfectly with this alternate version.
He released the music video on youtube a few months ago with this version !
I’m annoyed at the discrepancies between the subtitles and what’s actually being said

He’s like if Car Seat Headrest was folk and happier
Ely Garcia happier?
Ehh no.
..no
Ely Garcia i don’t think their music itself is very similar but i think they have oddly similar backgrounds
He’s like if Car Seat Headrest made good music instead of boring repetitive long ass songs
