Your average depressed teenager going through puberty, struggling with the meaning of life It's so crazy to think about how Alex made all this, not to mention more, at such a young age. I'd like to think he experienced a lot of what he wrote about in his songs, especially RACE. It makes them a lot more intimate, as if they were written about you. Stumbling upon Alex's music might just have been the best thing that has happened to me. Some of the songs, even when they have a seemingly very obvious meaning, I can still find comfort in it looking at it from a trans perspective. ESPECIALLY "The Same". Being a transman who struggles with dissociation and listening to that song for the first time was SUCH an experience

Damn this is an excellent analysis. When I think about Alex G and powerdynamics in relationships I always like the juxtaposition of Adam and Sporstar as they're kinda inverses of each other. One, as you said, is a bully with feelings toward the victim, while Sporstar is a victim with feelings toward his bully. I found Alex in my senior year of highschool, 2014. Race will always be my favorite album by him, and Things To Do my favorite track, that song hit so hard for that particular time in my life, but even generally still for my life as a whole. It is weird seeing him blow up, and that song thats been very personal to me and unknown for so long suddenly being tiktok popular, but I think it speaks to how powerful his music simply is for so many, no matter age, time, place, "cause everything you know will be erased".

im hapy and glad i found this video man, alex g is in a weird situation for me because its introduced by my ex, quickly become my favourite,and naturally it mean alot to me, but then she dumped me so. Despite being reminded of the time with me and her, it comforted me somehow, really a weird feeling for me. hopefully im free from this curse of a not being able to move on. alex g really is a unique and rare artist, his song impacted me alot even without the ex part, his work are just incredible and felt personal unlike other mainstream song, it felt genuine.

Personally, I wonder if this song is about SA as you suggested - it’s that last part “Dry your eyes, I won’t tell your mother, she won’t ever discover the things you kept under the covers. And please don’t cry. I am not your brother. I am not your lover, and there is nothing wrong.” And then echos of this assumption are even hidden in the first part - something that hurt one character but satisfied another - “you were scared… but I felt good.” “Every time I look into my eyes, he sees me too.” Maybe the abuser knows he himself is the metaphorical devil here. There is videos of alex playing his early music for what looks like elementary schoolers whilst they sit on the floor and alex jams away on his acoustic guitar(you can find this on yt) and every time i think of this line my mind goes back to those videos
All i know is Alex G started out as Sandy Alex G due to a misconception wjth another girl that was also uploading to bandcamp named Alex G who later changed hers to Alex G Blue or something i forgot...
i'm not sure if someone has mentioned this yet but go away has an alternate long version that sounds pretty different from the one released in the album, you can find it on an unreleased compilation album called Punk. I'm not sure when exactly the track is from, but the compilation is good and you should check it out. I love your videos and i would love to see you cover more of alex g!!!

A friend tried to put me on Alex G’s music a year or two ago and i brushed him off until one day trick randomly appeared in my recommended and ive been a bit obsessed ever since lmao so much so that ive been learning pretty much exclusively alex g songs on my guitar for the past 2 months lol (sorry to my roomates if either of you guys read this i promise ill switch it up soon 😂)

Besides that, I really loved this analysis. I’m not very good at seeing the story behind the songs I listen to so learning about how you see them is really amazing. I think throughout the video you can really tell that you are passionate about this and that’s what I like about this video the most. Also the fact that you’re a musician yourself allows the songs to be brought into deeper analysis which is just so good. Especially the fun fact with why Crab was named what it is, is just so cool to me :D
