I have always wondered this: 1). What's the weight of an empty refer trailer and then the tractor? 2). If someone says I'm loaded with 40,000lbs that's just the load and doesn't count the weight of the actual trailer and tractor?
if a train has a reverse gear I’d tell the train company to throw it in reverse while ur hooked with the trailer! Have a walkie with the conductor etc and should drive forward and let the train proceed etc
Regardless of what the law might say, the bigger vehicle has right of weight. Even a small train beats anything on wheels, just like big trucks beat passenger vehicles.
The title bugs me because I'd consider it a dumb question. Kinda like asking if water is wet. Then again, common sense seems to be getting less and less common. Seeing as this one is a helper, they might have had someone at this end, but seeing how short it is (not blocking the next street) even from that end, it's not like they couldn't see the truck or a person.
If you want to find out what happened, ask the foolish driver who tried to beat the train. These accidents can't ever be the train’s fault because they don't have the ability to swerve to avoid the trucks.
Remote Control Locomotive refers to the locomotive being set up for remote control (not automated, actually under the control of a guy) with a remote controller, within visual range. This is generally so the operator can stand somewhere where he can actually see what he's doing when reversing into train cars all day long. Those locomotives are used within rail yards to switch cars. Not sure *exactly* where you're at there, but there's a good chance it was technically inside a railyard. The guy (possibly by himself, and even if he wasn't the other guy can't drive) operating the locomotive within the yard would have been scooted off to go pee in a cup as soon as the scene was rendered safe, and you likely had to wait for another crew (at least an engineer and conductor, looks like you might have somebody from mechanical too) to get dragged over.
First time I've ever seen a train hit a semi and the semi was still on the track and virtually in one piece with little damage, so lucky for the driver, usually this ends in disaster, I'm so grateful that it wasn't as bad as it usually is! Great job as always Josh, you are Chingon !
I couldn’t wait till this video was gonna be posted. Definitely don’t see this recovery done much. I remember the one video you were talking about that went all wrong on the drivers end. It was still a good video. Was nice to see Jabo back in action since he is everywhere else. Good job to the Pepe’s crew for getting it done.
Going to be a nightmare for the guys unloading it in the morning - without Joe to move it forward to open the darn doors! I am SOOOOO surprised nobody caught that Josh! Send Joe to the shop to get some sleep, so he can be ready for the call back in the morning!
When Alex was saying that they would have no trouble with the doors I'm thinking that's not a roll up. Then again that trailer is totaled so cut off all the nuts or cut off the hInge pins. Save the truck and the fridge
Those warehouse doors are wide enough the trailer can be opened into the building. See it alot where the weather is nice all year because they don't the weather sealing
I friggin love this channel . Josh , Joe and Alex did an awesome job on this one . Adapted , overcame and improvised a really messed up situation and with a little luck solved this recovery safely and efficiently. Keep the content coming boys !
Just remember the railway is also billing like Pepe, just their bill starts at $1000 per minute, and if they have to divert other trains the diversions are also charged as well. that bill will be really big when delivered.
Thanks Josh for a new and exciting video! My first time seeing 👀 you do a train vs semi recovery. Very fun video!! Happy holidays to all of Pepe's! ❤❤❤
In answer to your question, yes, locomotive's can be remotely controlled. In situations where there are very long trains with very heavy loads, a remotely controlled locomotive(s) will be placed mid manifest or at the end to help push the heavy train up a steep grade, or help brake going down hill. These remotely controlled assist locomotive's are called "DPUs" Directed Power Units. In very rare occasions they may be manned. I hope this info helps.
It's good to see you two working together, the last time Joe has dropped his coffee, on a assignments with the Box Truck shifting near a coffee shop, and Josh I always remember that any accident on the railroad tracks you are the one on the Job .PEACE OUT
Never trains fault . Driver stopped on tracks.guess who wins .? Hint , it ain’t the truck ! I built and repaired locos . . Just like name implies. U have to be loco to tangle with one ! One of best channels on the tube .
15:00 By automated, I think that what they mean is that a single train often has multiple locomotive that that all of them are run by just one conductor. Hence, the remote function is used to get all of the locomotives to work as a single unit.
Hey Josh // Alex & ""COFFEE" Joe !!! Great Job !!! Always the train has the right of way ,But this guy hung his landing gear on the RR crossing & with the train coming
If it would not have been a reffer-trailer, it would have just folded. The type of floor and the stiffness of the insulated walls and top is what kept it intact. oldtroll57.
almost 💯 it's the truckers fault. that train is a local and it's run by an engineer on the ground via remote control. much like the remote you use on hulk and big flipper!
While working as a school police officer in So. Cal., my partner and I one night heard a call of a train vs. tractor trailer rig at a busy grade crossing in our area. We arrived on the north side of the train while the other responding units arrived on the south side. We closed the nearest large intersection until we were relieved by the California Highway patrol. As we drove toward the grade crossing, we both noticed the odor of chocolate in the air. As we neared the trailer that was almost cut in half by the train, we noticed that the trailer was loaded with hundreds if not thousands of nestle quick containers. There was cocoa mix on the street for days!
Those trains are no joke! My brother works for a railroad company and they’ve hit stuff before. Sometimes you just can’t stop them and people get in front of them like they can make it or like the trains just gonna stop.
Dumb truck driver tried to beat the train. Train only has 1 lane to go in. It makes no sense in taking on something that CAN'T stop on a dime and weighs 1000x or more than you do.
Instant tomato juice or ketchup. Sorry I can’t help myself. Not ever having been a tow truck driver or recovery specialist I’m fascinated by the quality of your work and the courtesy you extend to others and your employers. My Hats off to you and your company Who is at fault not the train engineer , the truck driver was at fault Buy Joe an adult sippy cup with a neck lanyard
Not necessarily I work at a Bnsf yard and they always have a guy in the cab and one on ground when switching. And when there on the road there’s 2 people in the cab at all times unless conductor has to throw switches or make cuts.
The train *could* be operated by remote control, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't. If it were being pushed, the conductor has to "ride the shove" while the engineer operates the train from the rear. Looking at the site in the video, it looks like the engineer either went in to emergency, or applied the brakes as soon as he could. The momentum of the train pushed it in to the trailer. "That was sketch!" *That* was an understatement. That whole frame looked like it could come apart at any second. I think you did a great job on the recovery-especially with the damaged landing gear.
Hi !!!!!! même si vos vidéos sont répétitives je trouve toujours un grand plaisir a les visionner ....Bonne continuation et prenez bien soin de vous ...( routier français a la retraite )......😎🤘
Those are equipped with remote control for use within a rail yard or switching out industries and such. They have a bunch of RC gear fitted in the nose, and the operator will have a belt pack that looks similar to the one you use for controlling the rotators. I suspect the original crew was probably out getting d*** tested and they had to grab a new crew off the extras board or something like that.
A train isn't remote controlled by an remote for safety purposes, but it has that warning there because it has a feature that allows an locomotive (the lead locomotive) to link up with other locomotives, it also tells what the other locomotives being pulled by the lead locomotive how much to accelerate so you don't need anyone controlling the other locomotives. (I might be wrong tho)
Those trains are yard trains. That is why it has a short amount of cars. The conductor can be within a certain radius of the train and operate it like a rotator. So he doesn't need to be in it to move it.
If you are driving a vehicle that requires a CDL, you are required to slow down and check for trains. If you have a load that requires placards for Hazmat you are required to STOP and check for trains. This is regardless if the train crossing has warning lights or not. There are exceptions however...
Wow you guys can do anything !! I really didn't think that wide blue strap would work. Amazing that you were able to back it up to the warehouse. HA! It won't buff out !!
Josh, Joe backed up the trailer to the doc with the back trailers' door closed... Will you guys need to go back to move the trailer forward to get them open or do they have a way to get the rest of the product out?
Ok. Just an outsider veiw. Could you have put a chain behind the landing gear on frame then to front inline with the pin? This may have helped with there being no wall support. The chain would have been between the strap and trailer, also it would have help hold the landing gear to tow.
This has to piss off the railway to no end. As a driver, some accidents...okay...things happen, especially in a long career. This however, is not something that should ever happen, there is no excuse.

I’m sure there’s a bunch of bs rules and people y’all gotta listen to but me and my boss we get shit done on our time not anyone else’s
A train always has the right of way at crossings
BitchIMatrain on redit is pure gold
Who in their right mind is going to challenge that logic, especially with something smaller???
Regardless of what the law might say, the bigger vehicle has right of weight. Even a small train beats anything on wheels, just like big trucks beat passenger vehicles.

It may have the right of way when signals at crossings , with down poles
You spotted that trailer very nicely. Except, it has swing doors. Need to open the doors before backing up to the dock.
If you want to find out what happened, ask the foolish driver who tried to beat the train. These accidents can't ever be the train’s fault because they don't have the ability to swerve to avoid the trucks.
Technically, he did beat the train! Just not his trailer.
some think they do or they will if derailed
You can pretty sure, depending on the Drivers Driving Record, the driver will be suspended for a few days or terminated.
@@Awalker5000 ask the remote operated train operator
Yeah and takes a while to completely stop . No win against the IRON HORSE

That truck was lucky that was such a slow collision. Good job Josh getting it lifted so they could unload part of it. Joe did great backing it up.

4 grand a day just for the railroad inspector to watch
Who's fault? The truck. 100% of the time.
The truck driver said it wasn't his fault. 🤣
Thanks Josh for a new and exciting video! My first time seeing 👀 you do a train vs semi recovery. Very fun video!! Happy holidays to all of Pepe's! ❤❤❤
No doubt about it, you dudes are professionals. Adapting to any situation you encounter is definitely an art . Great video as always.
You guys come up with the most interesting recoveries. Thanks, Josh, Joe and Alex for an interesting and entertaining job.
Probably one of the best vids you guys put out!!! Very entertaining and instructional to what you guys do and have to think on the fly!!!
Buenas noches, un trabajo laborioso, pero todo ha salido bien , buen trabajo, gran equipo, gracias, Alex.❤👍💪👌👏🇪🇦

Amazing job guys.
Awesome video Josh !!!
Alex is my favorite. I like how he does the videos.
That is a lucky truck there. You have got a good crew there, Josh. Good recovery

Was it an optical illusion as to how close trailer is to loading dock but can the trailer doors swing open ?
If not they'll have to jack it up somehow.

Josh, Joe and Alex that was great planning with the train crew.

Could have been a lot worse than it was .
Just be careful
What the hell was that truck driver thinking?

Yes that means know one is in the locomotive when it is moving it is operated by a remote control operator

Nice green chassis lights on The Hulk.
If this is the train tracks next to bandini rd there are no cross arms. But the trains usually passes super slow in that area
Growing up in a rural area of central California I’ve seen many car, semi and pedestrian vs train. It’s always a bad day when a trains involved

Good job Joe to think of chaining to the landing gear!

The under spreader bar could ether be pipe or square tube so you could use the angle bars
Nothing for the angle bar to lift on- floor and wall destroyed on the right side.
