Thanks Annie! I seem to notice that there are a lot fewer foreigners learning Southern Vietnamese than Northern/Hanoian Vietnamese. As you point out, this isn't always the case; exceptions are '-in' and '-ên', which keep their final /n/ and centralise their vowels to [ɨ] and [ə].
This is so helpful!
Lovely. I can see you're a good teacher: clear focus, great modelling and a really helpful explanation.
I learn your language,I 'm trying 🤗
Can you do a video showing the difference in pronunciation between /n/ and /ng/? I'm not sure if I can hear it, and would love to see the difference from you!
Fun fact: Alot of us younger Vietnamese who were born overseas learned Vietnamese in the southern dialect seeing as our families were escaping the communist north and brought along their traditions and passed it down to us 😅
ohhh my gosh this explains a lot about how my (south vietnamese) mom talks haha
Thank you thank you thank you
Cảm ơn bạn ❤
Welcome to my country anytime 🥰🌹
Ooo I’m from Vietnam 🇻🇳 ❤
Was just wondering about the final n
What is the difference between a and ạ in the northern dialect?
Is there a difference between chén and bát? Both mean bowl but is there a difference when using those terms?
northerners use bát more and southerners use chén more
/ng/ turns to /m/ is that correct? Like for words like “dong” or money
can i try to speak vietnamese with you
Thanks Annie! Is there a rule about when to pronounce n as ng? Only after certain vowels? For example would you ever pronounce "cảm ơn" as "cảm ơng"?
in southern accent, we literally pronounce n as ng in every cases
My background is Vietnamese
I want learn Vietnam languages
This may seem like a strange request but I was wondering if you could give the pronunciation of Kinh. My best friend is from Vietnam and is named Kinh. We will be meeting for the first time but I am uncertain of the pronunciation. I have been told Kin with the Japanese pronunciation and Kin with the English pronunciation. I have been trying to figure which is correct. I'm not a fan of pronouncing other's name wrong.
it sounds more like the English one. but the ending sound is made with the tip of your tongue touching the alveolar ridge, and the back touching the soft palate.
@vineoo5622 thank you so much
@@SKULLkidDEATHOMATIC maybe too late but it's pronounced almost the same as the word "king" in English
@crafting9735 Even if it is a bit late, it's never too late to work on one's pronunciation. He and I have started a relationship and even gotten engaged now. 😊
Vietnamese is too easy
